- Teacher collects their pieces of paper, read out the information for other ss to guess SS – T
2. Vocabulary
a. Greeting & introductions:
- Ask ss what they say when they meet a new friends to elicit some phrases
- Read the phrases in the list aloud and give Ss enough time to read the dialogue and fill in the
blanks.
- Play the recording. Ss listen and check their answers
- Practice:
+ Ask Ss to work in groups of three and greet each other and introduce their friend in the same
way as the speakers in the dialogue in Ex. 1.
+ Monitor the activity and then ask some groups to act out their dialogues in front of the class
b. Countries and nationalities
- Write the topic “Countries” on the board, have ss work in teams and brainstorm all the
countries they know
- Explain the task and any unknown countries/cities.
Do the first item with the class as an example. Then give Ss enough time to complete the task.
- Play the recording so Ss can check their answers
- Read the example exchange aloud. Then have Ss ask and answer questions in pairs
- Read the examples aloud and give Ss enough time to complete the table in pairs with the
nationalities for the remaining countries. Have ss think of more countries and nationalities for
each column
- Further activities: Ss work in pairs, ask and answer questions: Where are you from? what
nationality are you?
c. Numbers
- Have ss complete the listening exercise in their textbook, practice pronunciation of numbers
- Activity: Who is faster: Invite three ss to come to the board at a time, one will be teacher who
needs to read out a number at a time for the other two to write it on the board, the quicker one
will be given points.
- Practice: Asking and answering questions with numbers
+ Choose two Ss to read the example aloud.
+ Ss complete the task in closed pairs.
+ Monitor the task and then ask some pairs to ask and answer questions in front of the class.
