Calculation of Initial Weighted Mean National Values and Weighted Regional Values
for the Goods and Services of Coastal Habitats

Consumer Price Index (CPI) and US dollar exchange rate information were obtained from the Internet
during the course of the sixth meeting of the RTF-E for use in the calculation of weighted mean
national values and regional values for the goods and services of coastal habitats bordering the South
China Sea. The CPI data was sourced from the website of Taiwan’s Department of Investment
Services <http://investintaiwan.nat.gov.tw/en/env/stats/cpi.html>. The exchange rate information was
sourced from the website of Oanda Currency Services <http://www.oanda.com/convert/fxhistory>.

Preliminary weighted mean national values and weighted regional values for the goods and services
of the four habitats were calculated during the meeting. It was however, identified that all data and
calculations would need to be checked and re-calculated in the PCU, due to anomalies in the data
and differences in the formats and calculations used by members. It was agreed that members would
check and send revised datasets to the PCU during the week beginning 12th February 2007for the re-
calculation of national and regional values. The data sets available during the meeting are presented
in Tables 3 to 10.
