Structure Audit Report
Structure Audit Report
Structure Audit Report
Structural audit is the technical survey of the building in order to check its strength and stability. Structural audit is
the first step in repairing procedure of the building. Structural audit is generally recommended for older frame
structure. Structural audit helps in improving the safety, efficiency and gives idea about the strength of the structure
by detailed technical inspection. In present study attempt have been made to carry out structural audit of the old
RCC frame structure by carrying out site inspection and Demand to capacity ratio is determined. After checking
strength and stability of the structural members suitable recommendations are given in order to retrofit unsafe
structural component. Finally structural audit report is prepared here for the RCC frame structure.
Key words: Structural audit, NON-Destructive testing, Visible looking & as per IS
code structure design.
Object of project:-
Performing preliminary inspection of the RCC frame Structure.
Preparation of architectural, structural plan of the building.
Visual inspection to highlight critical area.
Performance of NDT tests.
Finding actual strength of the building.
METHODOLOGY: _
Introduction: In order to carry out structural audit old RCC building is selected of age around --- years. Steps
involved in structural audit carried out is as follows:
Step 1: Preparation of architectural and structural plan of the building. Architectural and structural plans are helpful
in structural calculation, identifying or highlighting critical areas in the building;
Note – Not available
Step 2: Making assumption of load based on the intended use of the building i.e whether it is commercial,
residential. Not finding which code used.
Note – Not available
Step 3: Preliminary inspection of the building: This inspection involves 1. Visual inspection and non-Destructive
testing.
Visual inspection in this RCC frame structure is thoroughly inspected from floor to floor noting cracks, spells,
Primary beam & slab bend, slab deflection crazing, see page etc. Highlighting critical area of investigation and this
audit and design failure chance here as slab, columns and beam.
Structural Stability – a well maintained building withstanding all load (live load, dead load, wind load and
seismic load and this combination) safety, provided there are no genetic problem of inadequate poor
construction specification or poor quality of construction material.
In this above Photos, the weakest areas in the construction are the maximum
Moment forces at the bottom and top of the ground-
Floor columns. Concrete quality was too low, while no
Confinement or caging exists in these maximum
Moment areas of the columns
Here we found Deflection is caused by many sources, such as, loads, temperature, construction error, and
settlements. It is important to include the calculation of deflections into the design procedure to prevent
structural damage to secondary structures (concrete or plaster walls or roofs) or to solve indeterminate
problems
Above photos Reason for it is to resist the hogging moment that arise at the edges due to failure of design
of slab as per IS code
The design of sections is done for the x/d value 0.5 which is less than the balance condition x/d ratio 0.64.
This allows the further distribution of the moment during the loading phase and it encourage ductile failure.
For x/d = 0.5, concrete strains becomes 0.002 whereas it is 0.0035 at the failure. It allows the early warning
as the reinforcements yield early and cracks will appear with the increase of the deflection.
Providing excessive reinforcement than the required amount will fail the structure without early workings as
the concrete will reach its failure load early.
Failure of the concrete will be sudden and it will be without prior warnings.
However, if the reinforcements are fails, it subjected to yielding and shows deflection with cracking.
1 Pure compression failure , combine stress failure , buckling Columns ground floor to first
failure , shear failure , failure due to lock of confinement floor, first floor to second floor ,
reinforcement, tensional failure , due to construction defects second floor to third floor
and failure due to errors in the construction
2 Bending or deflection excessive deflections and cracking with Beam ( first , second & third
slab)
the application of loads. Torsional Cracks before Beam, long
Spain, design failure etc.
3 RCC slab bend , cracks, deflection and linkage Slab (first, second & third slab)
Conclusions on RCC structure: The Following Conclusions can broadly made from the testing results: Based on the visual
observations distress Rebound Hammer testing on RCC Columns, RCC Beams and RCC Slabs, the results has given a lot of defects
on RCC member.
1 Pure compression failure, combine stress failure, Second Columns Demolish & new construction

6 Bending or deflection excessive deflections and First floor Beam First decided how can save this part

8 RCC slab bend , cracks, deflection and linkage Second Slab Demolish & new construction

9 RCC slab some area bend, cracks, deflection and First floor Slab First decided how can save this part

We are not getting foundation, sub structure and super structure drawing so we not calculate and decided,
present foundation structure capable or not capable for further activity.
Due to construction defects & failure errors in the construction As per IS code, IS code 456- 2000, IS code 13920 etc.
