Location: Surrounding area of Akurdi Railway Station

Background:
Maharashtra State Government declared the first week of July 2018 as a VAN
MAHOTSAV 2018. Under this event State Government promoted many institutions to plant as
many trees in their surrounding area. As a part of National Service Scheme our institute bind to
contribute to the activities which are beneficial to the improvement of society. So to celebrate
VAN MAHOTSAV 2018 our institute selected area surrounding Akurdi Railway Station for tree
plantation.

Objective:

Trees play an important role in reducing the air pollution and to maintain the good quality
air level in an environment. Trees are also useful to reduce the erosion of soil which may lead to
high flood situation. So every individual shall try to plant as many trees as possible. Because day
by day pollution level in an environment is becoming worse. Hence to overcome this situation tree
plantation is the only solution we have.
Objective behind selecting Akurdi Railway Station:

As surrounding area of Akurdi Railway Station is overcrowded by vehicles of all types. So


it may lead to increase in air pollution level of the said area. This area is also surrounded by several
educational institutions including D. Y. Patil Educational Complex. So tree plantation in this area
will help to maintain good air quality in coming days.

Outline of Activity:

The objective of this activity to plant as many trees in available area which are beneficial
to environment. Station Manager of Akurdi Railway Station provided all necessary support to
complete this activity successfully.

2) Neem: 8 nos
3) Peltafarm: 3
4) Pimapl: 2

Outcome of Activity:

1. Students understood importance of tree plantation and types of trees which are beneficial
to maintain clean environment.
2. Students realized impact of air pollution on society.
