3. Why was it considered important for these countries to agree to sign a peace deal?
It was important to sign a peace deal as the world had been left in a mess after the
Second World War and countries no longer trusted each other. Something needed to
be done to support and encourage peace amongst nations once again.

The purpose of the International Day of Peace is to provide a globally-shared date for
all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a
culture of peace.

Children to respond with ways that they could promote peace in their school
community for example, being kind to others, helping other children or giving
compliments.
