STUDY RESEARCH OBJECTIVE

Jennifer Schell

Ph.D. in Education and Leadership

Since my childhood, I have been sentient, a lover, and an activist for social causes, especially for
education and women's Empowerment. When I graduated from Highschool in 2002 an Oil Industry
Strike was going on in my country, Venezuela; I decided I wanted to become an agent of social change
through actions, I wanted to lead by example, and that is the reason why I studied Political Sciences.

20 years later, on 2022 Venezuela still has the same ideology government, with a Humanitarian,
Economic, Politics and Social crisis, I truly believe my country needs transformative leaders, and after
over a decade working for the public sector (I was the first Latin American intern at the African Union,
worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Service of Venezuela, and a Diplomat in Kenya, Africa
representing my country at the United Nations Environmental Office in Nairobi) and also in the Private
Sector (at the We For WE NGO in India as the Director of International Relations, as the Faculty Advisor
for Centro de Estudios Los Caminos Highschool and United Nations Model Club CAMIMUN, Program
Manager at BootcampVero an Experiential education online platform and even become an entrepreneur
and Founded my own Company Grupo Trabaja Mamá “Mom works”, an online platform that provides
job opportunities for freelancer mothers) I realize that impact and human development comes attached
to Education and specially soft skills.

I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Education and Leadership, to make a powerful and lasting impact in my
community by promoting transformative education-based soft skills. My research will be based on the
study conducted by Harvard University, the Carnegie Foundation, and Stanford Research Center that
concluded that 85% of job success does not come from knowledge learned at schools, butschools but
comes from having well-developed soft skills.

Since 2016 I am leading my company convincing the world that mothers are the economic propellant for
economies, Diddid you know that if the gender gap were closed, and women (especially mothers) could
participate equitably in the economy $28 Trillion of USD would be added to global GDP by 2025, that is
equivalent to the sum of the economies of the United States of America and China? I realized this 6
months after founding my company, when mothers were subscribing to the platform but did not have a
professional career but they need and wanted to work, I developed #LaRutaDelEmpoderamiento our
social responsibility program where we teach rural and vulnerable women soft skills based on their
empowerment (Entrepreneurship, Financial Education, Public Speaking, Domestic Violence, Make-up,
Female Empowerment, Art & Crafts) and become an outstanding freelancer to have a personal income
for their benefit and family.

#LaRutaDelEmpoderamiento has benefited already over 1500 vulnerable women, and in 2020 when
COVID came into our lives, we opened our free and virtual classroom for anyone interested in learning
and succeeding.

On 2021 I created the #EmpoderaME program for Students and teachers to learn about Media literacy,
Public Speaking, critical & systemic thinking, and leadership, with already over 700 beneficiaries from
public and private schools in the countryside of Venezuela, it is important to mention that it has been
the first educational program promoted to teach Media literacy using soft skills and remote devices.

Having already impacted so many lives, women, students, and teachers I’m looking to undertake an
educational program to reinforce my knowledge to build a social impact lasting program based on the
study of Harvard University, the Carnegie Foundation, and Stanford Research Center that inaccessible to
vulnerable people especially women, girls, and young students, to improve their talents, education, and
possibilities to succeed in life.

ActuallyActually, in Latin America, there is a high level of segregation. Low levels of education
perpetuate poverty, low equity, and low social mobility. Unfortunately, in Latin America and Venezuela
is easy to identify if someone had a low level of education or comes from a rural area, based on their
communication style; which augments increases discrimination, difficultiescomplications onof taking
existing job opportunities, and the challenge of prospering on this uneven playing field, I intend to study
a Ph.D. program that offers me an education that confronts the most complex issues in the field of
education–including evolving technology, inequality, leadership, policy, and more–to make an impact on
Venezuelan society to prepare the next generation of leading education researchers, teachers, and
political leaders.

I am interested in a program with interdisciplinary nature, unique that encourage students to work with
multiple faculty members from different disciplines like politics, economy, psychology, sociology, and
even technology in order to learn, plan and impact.

Being a Fulbright awardee will open my way to build an education program that promotes human
development through soft skills, I am confident that the opportunity given to me a young female and
resilient Venezuela mother to continue my studies in the United States of America will enhance my
capacity to take more roles, impact and contribute to Venezuela Educational programs and in
consequence developing the country.
