m, slip m, p to end. Keeping St st and Rib as est, work
2 rows even. Next row, inc and dec: K to m, m1, slm,

JOIN BACK
Work across Right piece in patt as est; using knitted CO, CO 13 sts; work across Left piece. Next row: Con-
tinue in patts as est, working CO sts as St st. Next row: patt to 3 sts before center st, pm, work Row 1 of Cable
Dart over next 7 sts, pm, patt to end. Continue to work rows 1-10 of Cable Dart between markers to top of
back. AT THE SAME TIME, cont to work Dec/Inc row every 4th row until all rib sts at both sides have been
decreased – 97 (113, 121, 137, 149) sts rem. NOTE: when only 3 sts remain outside m, work last decs as DDR
& DDL (omit the k1 at edge of work), 1 st will remain outside m, remove m. Work even until piece meas 14 (14
½ , 15, 15 ½ , 16)” from first CO edge, or desired length to underarm, ending with a WS row.

When armhole shaping is complete and 81 (85, 87, 91, 97) sts rem, work even until armhole meas 7 ½ (8, 8 ½ ,

(19, 20, 21, 22) sts on RH ndl, join second ball of yarn and BO center 29 (31, 31, 33, 35) sts, k to end. Next row:

Provisionally CO 26 sts. Work in St st for 7”, ending
with a WS row. Place sts on holder and set aside.

LEFT FRONT
CO 48 (54, 62, 68, 76) sts. Row 1 (RS): K1, p2, work
in 2 x 2 Rib to last 1 (3, 3, 1, 1) st(s), k to end. Rib in
pat as est for 1½”, ending with a WS row. Next row,
dec and est St st: Rib 35 (39, 43, 47, 51), pm, *k 4 (5,
2, 3, 3), k2tog; rep from * 1 (1, 3, 3, 4) times more, k
to end of row – 46 (52, 58, 64, 71) sts. Inc 1 st at beg
of next (WS) row and again at same edge every row
10 (12, 13, 15, 16) times more, and AT THE SAME
TIME, every 4th row, (RS) k1, work DDR, rib to
m, slm, m1, k to end. NOTE: when 3 rib sts remain
outside m, work next dec as DDR. 1 st remains out-
side m. Remove m. When piece meas 5”, place pocket:
next RS row, patt to 13 sts before m; slide next 26 sts
to holder, work across 13 sts of pocket lining, replace
m, work across remaining 13 pocket lining sts, patt
to end. 40 (46, 51, 57, 63) sts when all shaping com-
pleted. Work even until piece meas same as Back to
armhole, ending with a WS row. Shape armhole: BO

½”, ending with a WS row. Next row, dec and est St st: k 1 ( 1, 3, 1, 0), *k 4 (5, 2, 3, 3), k2tog; rep from * 1 (1,
3, 3, 4) times more, pm, work in rib pattern as est to end of row – 46 (52, 58, 64, 71) sts. Inc 1 st at end of next
(WS) row and again at same edge every row 10 (12, 13, 15, 16) times more, and AT THE SAME TIME, every
4th row, (RS) k to m, m1, slm, work in rib pat to last 4 sts, DDL, k1. NOTE: when 3 rib sts remain outside m,
work last dec as DDL. 1 st remains outside m. Remove m. When piece meas 5”, place pocket: next RS row, patt
to 13 sts before m; slide next 26 sts to holder, work across 13 sts of pocket lining, replace m, work across remain-
ing 13 pocket lining sts, patt to end. 40 (46, 51, 57, 63) sts when all shaping completed. Work even until piece
meas same as Back to armhole, ending with a RS row. Shape armhole: BO 4 (5, 6, 6, 6) sts at beg of next row,
then 0 (0, 2, 0, 2) sts at beg of foll WS row(s) 0 (0, 3, 0, 1) times. Dec 1 st at beg of WS row every 4 (2, 4, 2, 2)

rows in pat. Repeat the last 8 rows 3 times more, until
all p sts have been converted to k, and 8 sts have been
dec. AT THE SAME TIME, after working 5 rows,
(WS) inc 1 st at each end of next and foll 10 (8, 8, 6,
6)th row a total of 8 (10, 11, 13, 15) times. 72 (76, 78,
82, 86) sts when all shaping complete – initial rib has
been dec from 64 to 56 sts, plus 16 (20, 22, 26, 30) sts
increased at edges. Work even until piece meas 17” or
desired length to underarm. Shape cap: BO 4 (5, 6,
6, 6) sts at beg of next 2 (2, 2, 4, 4) rows, then 0 (0, 2,
0, 2) sts at beg of foll 0 (0, 6, 0, 2) rows, then dec 1 st
each end every RS row 8 (8, 3, 1, 1) times, every 4th
row 4 (5, 10, 13, 14) times, every RS row 8 (8, 2, 1, 0)
times – 24 (24, 24, 28, 28) sts rem. BO all sts.

BACK BELT
CO 3 sts. Work in 1 x 1 Rib and inc 1 st each end
every RS row 8 times – 19 sts. Work even until piece
meas 7” from beg, ending with a WS row. Dec 1 st
each end every RS row until 3 sts rem. BO.

EPAULETTES (make 2)
CO 15 sts. Work in 1 x 1 Rib for 3 (3, 3 ¼ , 3 ¼ , 3 ½
)”, ending with a WS row. Dec 1 st each end every RS
row until 3 sts rem. BO.

BUTTON TABS (make 3)


CO 15 sts. Work in 1 x 1 Rib for 4 rows. Next row: Rib 6, k2tog, yo, rib to end. Cont in rib until piece meas 3 ½
”. BO.

NECKBAND
CO 13 sts. Work in 1 x 1 Rib for 19”. Do not break yarn; leave sts on holder.

FINISHING
Block pieces to measurements.

Back Vent Border: Pick up and k 32 sts along one side edge of vent. Work in 2 x 2 Rib, and inc 1 st at bottom
edge every RS row until border meas 1 ½ ”. Bind off. Work edging in same way along other side edge. Sew bot-
tom border edges along edge of bottom ribbing. Sew top border edges to cast-on edge at top of vent.

Pockets: Remove provisional cast-on of pocket lining and replace sts on ndl. Replace held sts from front of
pocket on second ndl. Holding 2 ndls parallel in left hand, with lining sts behind body sts, work together 1 st
from front ndl with 1 st from back ndl in 2 x 2 Rib across row. Cont in rib as est for 1”. BO. With 24” length of
yarn, sew edge of rib to body, then use same strand to stitch sides of pocket lining closed.

Front Border: Pick up and k 117 (117, 121, 121, 125) sts along Left Front edge from neck to bottom, pm, then
cont to pick up 17 (17, 17, 21, 21) sts along angle to ribbing. 134 (134, 138, 142, 146) sts. Beg with a WS row
and p2, work in 2 x 2 Rib to end. On all RS rows, inc 1 st before and after m and at end of row. When rib meas
1 ½”, BO. Sew side edge of rib at bottom to side edge of rib from body. Work Right Front Border to match.

Collar: Sew shoulder seams. Beg at right front neck edge, pick up and k approx. 12 sts along edge of ribbing,
25 (25, 27, 27, 29) sts along curve of neck edge, 48 sts along back neck edge, 25 (25, 27, 27, 29) along left front
neck, and 12 sts along edge of ribbing – 122 (122, 126, 126, 130) sts. Next row (WS): Beg with p2, work in 2 x
2 Rib for 4”. Dec 1 st each end every RS row until collar meas 5 ½”. BO.

Neckband: Beg at left front edge, sew neckband on outside of collar along edge where sts are picked up. Band
should end approx. 1” past edge of ribbing at right front edge. Add or subtract rows as needed, then replace
band sts on ndl. Next row: Rib 5, k2tog, yo, rib to end. Work 4 rows even. Dec 1 st each end every RS row
until 3 sts rem. Next row: Sl 1, k2tog, psso. Fasten off. Tack long open edge of neckband loosely to collar.Set in
sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew straight end of each epaulette to shoulder seam; tack other end down
by sewing button through epaulette ½” from tip. Sew long edge of Back Belt to Back so that lower edge ends at
top of vent; sew a button through belt ½” from each tip. Sew 1 button through all thicknesses of neckband and
collar approx. 1 ¼” from left front edge. Sew 3 more buttons in line with first at 3” intervals down left front bor-
der. Sew a button tab to right front edge opposite each button, securing it by sewing a button through all thick-
nesses approx ½” from BO edge (thus having buttonhole in line with button on left front). Weave in ends.
