Week 7 Activity 1

1. What does the experience of Starbucks tell the readers about globalization?
Starbucks has been able to take advantage of globalization to their advantage.
It shows us how necessary it is to remain linked to other countries, which
globalization has made possible by allowing citizens and products to travel
freely across borders. Starbucks has surpassed its stigma as a global
corporation by using complicated accounting rules that enabled them to prosper
due to lower tax rates in another world.

2. What are the driving forces behind globalization?

Globalization is induced by two reasons, one of which is the presence of the
internet. Globalization has risen dramatically as a consequence of this cause.
The internet has made cross-border trade of products and services much
faster, simpler, and more common. The invention of cargo vessels is another
aspect. This dimension has enhanced and simplified the transportation of
commodities from one location to another. The cost of transportation has
decreased, rendering it more cost-effective to ship commodities worldwide.

3. What are the benefits of globalization?

Many benefits of a global culture include shrinking the world, widening
economic prospects, and improving cultural education. Companies would have
additional business prospects as digital networking improves. Successful
foreign business cooperation necessitates an understanding of other cultures.
Modern approaches for educating children about diverse cultures have arisen
as a result of the emergence of global connectivity. In addition, the world
economy has had an effect on politics and culture, bringing better trading,
cross-cultural management, a variety of ideologies, and a recent research
pattern.

4. What are the negative of globalization?

Globalization has a lot of advantages for economies, but it still has a number of
disadvantages. One of the negatives of globalization is unequal international
growth. Despite the fact that globalization tends to fuel economic development
in many nations, the gains are not equally distributed: developed countries
prosper more than poorer countries. The lack of small companies in the area is
a disadvantage. Corporations with the resources and assets to handle their
supply chains or delivery through many countries benefit from globalization
policies, which can exclude small local companies. A rise in the probability of
global recessions is considered a disadvantage. The odds of a global recession
increase dramatically as the economic systems of many countries become
interconnected. Utilizes lower-cost labour markets is another one. Globalization
enables enterprises to expand jobs and trade opportunity in developed
economies, where labor costs are also lower. Lastly, it causes worker loss.
Globalization does not create more employment; rather, it redistributes jobs by
shifting labor from high-cost to low-cost countries.
