Chapter 1
Introduction

Hospital bed capacity planning and resource allocation are

critical factors in ensuring efficient and effective healthcare
delivery. In the case of Frederico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial
District Hospital, located in Janiuay, Iloilo, these aspects play
a crucial role in managing patient flow, optimizing resource
utilization, and providing high-quality patient care. As a
district hospital, Frederico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial Hospital
serves a significant population, and effective bed capacity
planning and resource allocation are essential to meet the
healthcare needs of the community.

However, like many hospitals, Frederico Roman Tirador Sr.

Memorial Hospital faces challenges in managing its bed capacity
and resources due to factors such as varying patient demand,
limited resources, and budget constraints. Traditional approaches
to bed capacity planning and resource allocation may rely on
experience-based decision-making or static rules, which may not
fully capture the dynamic nature of patient demand and resource
availability. Therefore, there is a need for a data-driven and
statistically-based approach to bed capacity planning and
resource allocation that can provide insights and support
decision-making to optimize hospital operations.

This research aims to address this gap by utilizing a

statistical approach to bed capacity planning and resource
allocation in Frederico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District
Hospital. By analyzing relevant data and applying statistical
methods, this research seeks to provide evidence-based insights
that can inform decision-making processes in managing bed
capacity and resources. The findings of this research are
expected to contribute to the existing literature on hospital
management and provide practical recommendations for improving
bed capacity planning and resource allocation practices in
Frederico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital, and
potentially in similar healthcare settings.

The results of this research have the potential to

positively impact the operations of Frederico Roman Tirador Sr.
Memorial District Hospital, leading to improved patient care,
better resource utilization, and enhanced hospital performance.
Furthermore, the statistical approach used in this research can
serve as a foundation for future research in the field of
hospital management and resource allocation.
