Activity #9

1. Cite situations in which Don Francisco, had shown his influence on Rizal.
 One of Jose Rizal’s childhood tutors, Don Leon Monroy, was Don
Francisco’s friend whom the father personally chose to teach his son the
basics of Spanish and Latin. When Monroy died after five months of
tutoring Rizal, Don Francisco sent his son to a school in Biñan.
 Don Francisco then sent Jose to enroll at the Ateneo Municipal in
Intramuros, Manila. When Jose was in his third year in Ateneo, he became
indulge in reading novels. Because Jose requested for it, his loving father
bought him an expensive set of the Universal History by Cesar Cantu.
 In 1881, Jose made a clay bust of his father. About six years later, he
carved a life-size wood sculpture of Don Francisco. Perhaps, Jose even
spent a lot of time finishing the life-size sculpture—because Don Kiko,
unlike the national hero, was above average in height. In honor of his
father, Jose named his premature son (by Josephine Bracken) ‘Francisco.’
The infant ‘Francisco’ unfortunately died three hours after birth.

2. Like further, Don Francisco, had showed his love and care for his son. For
you, what do you think is fatherhood?
 For me, fathers are not showy like what our mothers they are both want
what is best for their children though they have different ways to shows
their love. For me fatherhood is a strong foundation in every soft
foundation we receive from our mother, they are show love through
discipline or asking you to do things that they know will make you enough
strong. People says that if the mother were the light of home then the
father are the one who serve as a post because they are the one building
a strong foundation.

3. How did Jose Rizal Show his affection for his father?

Keeping in his heart such reverence for his dad, Rizal named his and Josephine
Bracken’s premature son “Francisco.” The infant Francisco died a few hours after
birth in Dapitan, where they lived together as partners. “Without much kissing
affectionately your hand and my father’s,” Rizal wrote to his mom from Dapitan in
February 1895, “it would be delightful if you can come here, your son who loves
you from the heart.” In almost all letters addressed to his mother, you’d find in this
his father mentioned with love and affection At six in the morning of December 30,
1896, the day of his martyrdom, our hero penned a note to his brother Paciano:
“Tell our father I remember him, and how I remember my whole childhood, of his
affection and his love. Ask him to forgive me for the pain that I have unwillingly
caused him.”

4. Do you believe that like mothers, fathers play a critical role in shaping the
lives of their children? Explain your answer.

 Yes. Parents have their own way on how they will guide their children and
just like our mothers who plays a big role in our life , fathers also have
their role making their children grow with develop personality and adapt
the lesson they teach while they were young. Mothers are the one
teaching their children by words while father are the one who make their
children do things that will adapt the lesson they learned.

5. How did your father influence your life?

 My father influence my life by having a lesson and realization in life. I have
a separate parent where in my I don’t have any communication with my
father because he chose not to take responsibility and I must say its not
easy forgiving but it doesn’t change the fact that he is still my father so the
things he does the things happens to us because of him serves a lesson
for me to keep going to keep pursuing and make myself strong enough to
stand on my feet.
