Adjectives (Comparison) : Base Comparative Superlative Irregular
Adjectives can compare two things or more than two things. When we make these
comparisons, we use comparative and superlative forms of adjectives.
Group #1
(add to these adjectives: –er meaning ‘more’ / add –est for the superlative)
Group #2
(the last three letters: consonant-vowel-consonant = double final consonant of the adjective
then add: –er / –est [except the ones finished in “y” or “w”] )
Group #3
(change ‘y’ to ‘i’ and add: ‘er’ [ - ier] / [ -iest ] )
Group #4
(adjective ending in “e”, only add: ‘r’ / ‘st’ )
Group #5
(adjectives of two or more syllables: use ‘more’ / ‘the most’ before these adjectives)
