1. Questions related to management theories
a. Why do we need and study to management
theories?
We need and study because Management theories help organizations to focus,
communicate, and evolve. Using management theory in the workplace allows
leadership to focus on their main goals. When a management style or theory is
implemented, it automatically streamlines the top priorities for the organization.
Management theory also allows us to better communicate with people we work
with which in turn allows us to work more efficiently. By understanding
management theory, basic assumptions about management styles and goals can be
assumed and can save time during daily interactions and meetings within an
organization.
////////////////////////////////////

Theories are perspectives with which people make sense of their world
experiences. Formally, a theory is a coherent group of assumptions put forth to
explain the relationship between two or more observable facts. Such
perspectives are called invisible powers to emphasize several crucial uses of
theories, the ‘unseen’ ways in which we approach our world.

First, theories provide a stable focus for understanding what we experience. A

theory provides criteria for determining what is relevant. To Henry Ford, a large
and compliant work force was one relevant factor as he theorized about his
business. In other words, his theory of management included, among other
things this assumption about the supply of labor.

Second, theories enable us to communicate efficiently and thus move into more
and more complex relationships with other people. Imagine the frustration you
would encounter if, in dealing with other people you always had to define even
the most basic assumptions you make about the world in which you live!
Because Ford and his managers fully understood Ford’s theory about
manufacturing automobiles, they could interact easily as they faced day-to-day
challenges.
b, Why is it important for every manager to understand
the many different management theories that have been
develop?
It is very important to every manager to be equipped with different management theories because
Using the management theory in a workplace allows the leadership focus on main goal. When
the management style or may be any theory implemented, it is automatically streamlines top
priority for  organization.
Management theory helps the organization to be focused, communicate, & to evolve.  The
management theories allows us to  communicate better with the people that we work which in
return allows to work more efficiently.
By understanding the management theories, the basic assumption about the management style &
goal can be then assumed & can be saved our time during the daily interactions & meetings
within the organization.
Theories only reach far, & management theories has no exception. There is nothing such that, the
thing as the one--size--fit--all management theory. Work for one organization may or may not be
relevant for the another.
c, Why management theories fail to bring intended results
in Africa?
The paper notes that most of the management theories are foreign to African
environment and are inappropriate to African situations. It posits that a major reason
management theories fail in Africa, particularly, is because they are applied
indiscriminately without being circumstance/environment contingent. It therefore
recommends that to make theories work in Africa, management theories must be
indigenized, but beyond that, such indigenous theories must be circumstance
contingent and managers must use them in a circumstance contingent way. The high
points of the paper are that it brings to bear the arguments in the contingency theory of
management and the relevance of the theory in management in Africa in contemporary
times.

d, What are challenges in developing indigenous

management theories in Africa?
The paper examines the challenges against developing indigenous management theories
in Africa and the implications for management practice in Africa. The paper recognizes
that there is a dearth of African indigenous management theories, and attributes the
situation to both economic and socio-cultural factors in Africa. It notes that the inability
to develop indigenous management theories has caused indiscriminate importation of
western theories for adoption in Africa, and this has huge negative impact on
management practice in Africa. The paper posits that the uncritical adoption of western
theories is a major reason for ineffective management practice in Africa and the poor
performance of industries in the continent. It therefore calls on stakeholders to look away
from foreign based theories and chart a way towards developing indigenous theories that
account for African peculiarities, and encourage the application of such theories. It
recommends that concerted efforts be made to overcome the challenges bedeviling the
development of African indigenous management theories by committing to new ways of
thinking and orientation about research and theories, and overhauling African value
system towards supporting research leading to development of theories.
