for the version included in SAP GUI 4.6B/C

Step-by-step guide for installing SAPConsole to run SAP's


Radio Frequency solution on character-based devices
Prerequisites and General Settings
1. To run SAPConsole Windows NT has to be installed on the computer.

2. That computer has to be connected to the network.

3. To run a connection to the character-based RF devices the computer will serve as a


Telnet server. Therefore a Telnet software has to be installed on the computer. Please
refer to chapter 'Telnet Server/Client Installation' for detailed installation steps.

4. Configure a profile on the RF devices, where you define the host IP-address of the
Telnet/SAPConsole server and the type of emulation the RF device should use (e.g. VT-
220).

Installation of SAPConsole from the installation CD


SAPConsole is part of the front end R/3 installation CD for releases 4.6B and 4.6C.
You can install the SAPConsole on the specific NT server that will be responsible for the
communication with the RF-Devices. You can install only the SAPConsole or the
SAPConsole together with the SAPGUI to allow easier definition of services using the
SAPLogon. Please perform the following steps:

 Press “Setup”, the system starts the installation and the main screen is opened.

 Choose “Local installation”, then press “Next”.

 The system now recommends a default folder for the installation. To accept it press
“Next”.

 Choose the component “Application” and press the “Change option” within the
Application menu, mark the “SAPConsole” component only. Press “ok.”

 If you want to install also the SAPGUI mark it now.

 Press “Next”, the system starts the installation.

 When the system finishes the installation, press “Finish.” The


installation is completed.

 Locate the file “sapcnsl.exe” under: C:\Program Files\SAPpc\sapgui\sapconsole\

 Locate files “termcfg.dll”, “vtstream.dll” and “vt220” under:


C:\Program Files\SAPpc\sapgui\sapconsole\sapvtio

 Locate files “sapcadll.dll”, “sapcnsl.dll”, “sapcprx.dll” and “Guilib.dll”


under C:\Program Files\Common Files\SAP Shared\System\it

SAPConsole Configuration Settings

1. Use the SAP Logon to define the connection to the system you want the SAPConsole
server to login.

2. The following procedures describe the configuration of SAPConsole after its installation:

 Enter the SAP Console Administrator located in the control panel by double
clicking on the icon.

 If needed, enlarge the profile root by pressing the “+” sign.

 To create a new profile click on the default profile. Since it is the only one that is
bold (the active one), you can clone it and create a new profile by clicking the
right mouse button. By pushing the right mouse button again you can change its
name.

 In the bottom of the screen in “General settings” mark 'Truncate unused lines'

 SAPLogon selection – which now will allow the SAPConsole to use the
definitions from the SAPLogon.

 Choose the system you want to logon to in the SAP R/3 connection.

 Enter the transaction code you want to enter when you logon to the system (e.g.
you can use 'LM00' to enter the RF functionality)

 In the selection “Terminal engine”, choose the 'SapVTIO' as the I/O Engine.

Press the configuration button on the right. The SAP Terminal engine configuration window
is opened.

 In the Output stream, choose 'Standard console output'.

 Mark the option 'Convert attributes to color'.

 Push the button on the right side marked with '…' and another dialog window appears
where you can set up the display types.

SAPConsole Display Types
For Regular Display please mark the following options:

 Input Attributes: none

 Output Attributes:

 Foreground Red

 Foreground Green

 Foreground Blue

For 'Inverse Display' please mark the following options:

 Input Attributes:

 Inverse

 Output Attributes:

 Background Red

 Background Green

 Background Blue

For 'Underlined Display' please mark the following options:

 Input Attributes:

 Underlined

 Output Attributes:

 Foreground Red

 Foreground Intensity

 Press 3 times the 'OK'-button to leave the SAPConsole Administrator.

Telnet Server/client Installation
1. Install the Telnet server on the same server were you installed the SAPConsole.

2. Configure the Telnet server profile that you intend to use. Edit the profile and enter:

 The default shell, usually the CMD.EXE file located under c:\winnt\system32\.

 Startup directory for the SAP Console executable file, usually the file sapcnsl.exe is
located under c:\program files\sappc\sapgui\sapconsole\

 The command line: sapcnsl.exe.

 Do not use the ANSII Color option in the Telnet server.

 Do not check for GUI Apps.

3. Install the Telnet client on a different machine.

4. Configure the Telnet client profile:

 Inform the client about the Telnet server IP-address.

 Use the VT-220 emulation

 Configure the function keys codes on the RF-Devices. You can use the file
VT220.TXT to see what is the decimal code expected by the
emulation when a special key is pressed for example: the virtual key
code for “F1” is 112 (70 in Hex).

SAPConsole Remotely Activate Check


1. Logon to the SAPConsole server using the Telnet remote connection.

2. Check that the SAPConsole is activated remotely and is switching you to the R/3 logon
screen. Logon to the system.

3. Press “Enter” until you have reached the RF transaction logon screen. Press F8 to
logout.
