EXT. PRESCOTT HOME - NIGHT
The Prescott home is as beautiful as it is isolated,
standing near the edge of a forest with little else in the
way of memorable surroundings. Clear night and lights out,
leaving only the full moon to illuminate the otherwise
darkened scene. Pretty, but eerie.

INT. PRESCOTT HOME - SIDNEY’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Moonlight shines through the open window, dimly lighting the

otherwise darkened room. Clothes lie scattered over the
floor while a couple lies naked in the bed, cuddling one
another, completely relaxed and at ease.
SIDNEY PRESCOTT, girl next door with some bite. Naturally
endearing and approachable, up until you give her a reason
not to be.
BILLY LOOMIS, lovable All-American jock type; buff bod with
a disarmingly endearing smile. Naturally affable and
charming, but with a clear edge to him.

BILLY
I love you.
SIDNEY
I love you too, Billy.

Billy goes in for a quick kiss. The two are content to

cuddle, smiles covering both their faces.
SIDNEY
Any chance you can stay the night?
My mom’s out of town at least a few
more days.
BILLY
Sidney, my dad’s already going to
be on my ass for staying out so
late without asking him first. I’ll
never be allowed out again if I
don’t get home.
SIDNEY
This house is just so creepy alone.
Sidney pulls herself closer to Billy and rests her head on
his shoulder, giving him a saddened puppy dog stare.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 2.

BILLY
I surrender; I surrender. Just
spare me the puppy eyes.

Sidney quickly switches to a smile.

BILLY
Tell you what; I’ll tell my dad
Stu, Steve, and I are having a
boy’s night tomorrow and I’m
spending it with them. Then I’ll
come over here-
Billy wraps his arms around Sidney as he begins to kiss her
neck, slowly working his way up to her mouth. Sidney’s
chuckling, loving every second of this.
BILLY
-and we can do anything you want.
Sidney, radiating excitement, pushes Billy off of her.

SIDNEY
Okay, but I’m holding you to that.
Tomorrow night.
BILLY
Wouldn’t dream of missing it.
Billy gives Sidney one last quick kiss before climbing out
of the bed, quick to start getting dressed, underwear and
jeans first. Sidney sits up on the bed, covering her breasts
with a sheet.

SIDNEY
Hey, Billy.
Billy finishes zipping up his jeans and turns to see Sidney,
she fires back with a flirty smile.
SIDNEY
Just a reminder of what you’ll miss
out on if you bail.

Sidney lowers the sheet, exposing her breasts to both Billy

and the viewing audience. She starts giggling. Billy is
definitely distracted with gazing, if only for a moment.
BILLY
Trust me, I’ll be there.

Billy finishes tossing his letterman jacket on, he

approaches the open window and starts to climb out it.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 3.

SIDNEY
We have doors for that.

BILLY
I know, but this was always more
fun. Love you!
Sidney laughs as Billy disappears from sight, lying back
down in her bed and relaxing, ready to fall asleep.

RING. RING.
Audible sigh from Sidney as she begins to roll out of her
bed. Not thrilled about the late-night call.

INT. PRESCOTT HOME - KITCHEN

A pajama-clad Sidney turns the lights on and walks into the
kitchen towards a wireless landline phone; she answers it.

SIDNEY
Hello?
VOICE
Hello.

SIDNEY
Who is this?
VOICE
Take a guess.

SIDNEY
I’d rather not. Who are you calling
for so late?
VOICE
Who am I speaking to?
Sidney sighs and hangs up the phone. Not in the mood for a
late night prank call.
SIDNEY
Wrong number.
Sidney pulls out a bag of popcorn, tears it open, and tosses
it into her microwave, starting it.
RING. RING.

Sidney checks the Caller ID: Private. She hesitates, but

decides to answer the phone anyways.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 4.

SIDNEY
(Irritated)
Yes?
VOICE
Why’d you hang up on me?
SIDNEY
I think you have the wrong number.
VOICE
I just want to talk to you.
SIDNEY
There’s plenty of other numbers for
that. Call someone else.

VOICE
But I want to speak to Sidney
Prescott.
Sidney’s eyes go wide in shock. She looks around the
kitchen, glancing to make sure all the windows are locked.
Doesn’t see anyone outside either. Makes her way towards the
living room.
SIDNEY
I’m- I’m sorry. I told you; you
have the wrong number.

INT. PRESCOTT HOME - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Sidney begins to check each window, making sure they’re all
securely closed and locked.

VOICE
No I don’t; I just checked.
SIDNEY
Well, no one with the name Sidney
Prescott lives here. I told you,
you have the wrong number.
VOICE
Are you sure?

SIDNEY
Yeah. I’m sure.
VOICE
That’s strange. I’m looking at her
right now.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 5.

Sidney freezes. She quickly glances around her, still can’t

make out anything outside. Very much on edge.
VOICE
You’re standing in the living room.
You boyfriend just left.

Sidney’s eyes widen; he definitely can see her. Way too

specific to be a random guess.
VOICE
I can see the fear setting in. Not
a joke anymore, is it?
SIDNEY
Fuck you.

VOICE
I think you already played that
game with your boyfriend, Billy.
You know what happens to you next,
right?

Sidney quickly hangs up on the mysterious caller, starts

dialing 911.
911 OPERATOR
911, what’s your emergency?

SIDNEY
My name is Sidney Prescott;
someone’s harassing me. I’m home
alone; he keeps calling me. Says he
can see me through the windows.

911 OPERATOR
We can send officers there as soon
as possible. What’s your address?
SIDNEY
5N814 Rosewood Drive. It’s a little
out of the way; I know.
911 OPERATOR
We’ll have someone there as soon as
possible. Lock your doors, get to a
secure spot, don’t take any risks.
SIDNEY
Thank you.
6.

INT. PRESCOTT HOME - BEDROOM

Sidney rushes into her room and grabs her cellphone. Looks
through the contacts and selects "Tatum Riley." She texts
her- "Being harassed by a creeper. Called cops, but don’t
want to spend night alone. Have Dewey pick me up after?"

A couple seconds pass. DING. Quick text back: "Dewey’s

nearby. He’ll be there in about 10 minutes."
Sidney smiles as she grabs a bag in her room, begins to toss
in a spare change or two of clothes, along with a hairbrush,
phone charger, book, toothbrush. Anything she’d need to
spend the night with Tatum on short notice.
RING. RING.

Sidney jumps a little before answering her cellphone.

SIDNEY
Tatum, just have Dewey get here!
VOICE
Who’s Tatum?
SIDNEY
(Under her breath)
Shit!

Sidney glances at the Caller ID, hoping to get something out

of it. "Private." No hint of who it is.
SIDNEY
Why are you doing this?

VOICE
Give me a reason not to.
SIDNEY
You’ve scared me enough, okay. How
about we just stop it now before
the police get here?
VOICE
Now? But we’re getting to the good
part.

SIDNEY
What’s the good part?
VOICE
I want to play a game.
7.

Sidney glances around her room; her window is still open

from earlier. Shit. Sidney races to close and lock it, but
is clearly worried that whoever’s calling might have already
snuck inside through it. She quickly but carefully makes her
way out of the room and down the stairs.

INT. PRESCOTT HOME - KITCHEN

Sidney cautiously enters the kitchen, slowly making her way
towards the knives. Pulls one out, at least it’s something
to defend herself with.
SIDNEY
What kind of a game?
VOICE
It’s easy: horror trivia.
SIDNEY
Count me out.
VOICE
Why? Don’t you like scary movies?
SIDNEY
Horror-comedy.
VOICE
Close enough; just a few rounds.
It’ll be fun.
SIDNEY
I said no.

Sidney backs towards a corner, nervously eyeing her

surroundings, minimizing the risk of being taken by
surprise. No way to approach her from behind.
VOICE
Here, I’ll give you a warmup
question: name the killer in Friday
the 13th!
SIDNEY
Fuck off.

Sidney disconnects. Stays in her hiding spot, not budging at

all. Sees a dark, shrouded figure gliding past one of the
windows. Quick glimpse of the ghostly mask.
RING. RING.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 8.

Sidney shrieks, drops her phone and knife to the floor.

Races for the knife, but more hesitantly grabs the phone.
SIDNEY
Look, I told you, the police are on
their way. I’d get the fuck out of
here and leave me alone if I was
you.
VOICE
Finally, we’re getting somewhere.
Let me explain something to you,
Sidney.
Sidney’s still got her knife out.
VOICE
(Perfectly Calm)
If you hang up on me again, I will
gut you like a fish. Understand?
Sidney nods, tears starting to roll down her eyes.

VOICE
Stupid mistake leaving the front
door unlocked.
Sidney’s eyes go wide, she races into the front hallway.

INT. PRESCOTT HOME - FRONT HALLWAY - NIGHT

The door is securely locked; he’s just screwing with her.
Sidney’s stressed out, scared, and crying at this point.

SIDNEY
Please, what do you want?
VOICE
I told you; I want to play a game!

SIDNEY
Then play it with someone else.
Please, I haven’t done anything to
you!

VOICE
And that, Sidney, is what makes
this so much fun.
SIDNEY
Fun? You think this is fun for me?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 9.

VOICE
No.
(Beat)
Should I?

SIDNEY
Please.. just leave me alone. I
don’t want to die.
Tears stream down Sidney’s face as she backs against a wall
and slowly slides to the floor.

VOICE
Answer the questions and you won’t.
Sidney takes a moment to catch her breath, rubs the tears
from her eyes. Putting herself back together after a
moment’s breakdown.
SIDNEY
Fine, ask away.
VOICE
In Cabin in the Woods, which of the
five slasher archetypes always has
to die first?
SIDNEY
That’s not what you asked before.

VOICE
I changed my mind. Answer.
SIDNEY
The Whore.
VOICE
See? That’s not so hard.
SIDNEY
Fuck you.
VOICE
I wouldn’t taunt me if I was you,
Sidney. We can always stop early.

Sidney goes quiet; not wanting to anger her tormentor.

VOICE
In The Final Girls, what’s the
mandatory trait of the final girl?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 10.

SIDNEY
She’s a virgin.
Sidney can sense the taunting jabs at this point. Two in a
row is too many to be a coincidence; somewhere between
pissed, hurt, and scared at the same time.

VOICE
Very impressive. Next question-
SIDNEY
How many question are there?
VOICE
As many as I want.
(Beat)
You’re good at this. Question #3:
in It Follows, how is It
transmitted from one person to
another?
SIDNEY
Sex. You seem obsessed with it.

VOICE
Just making sure the rules are
clear; you’re on a roll. Let’s see
how long you can keep it going when
I switch to a new category.

It sinks in for Sidney; the game isn’t going to end. There’s

no last question until she gets one wrong.
VOICE
In You’re Next, what masks do the
killers wear?
SIDNEY
Animal masks.

VOICE
Name the animals.
Sidney is paralyzed in fear, goes dead silent; she doesn’t
know that one.

VOICE
Clock’s ticking Sidney. You don’t
want to see what happens when
time’s up.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 11.

SIDNEY
I’m thinking.
Sidney continues to pause, stalling for time. The doorbell
rings, Sidney jumps, screams at the top of her lungs, drops
the phone back to the floor.

VOICE
Hello? Sidney?
DEWEY (O.S.)
Sidney!? Are you in there?
Sidney doesn’t bother with the phone.
SIDNEY
Dewey!?

DEWEY (O.S.)
Sidney, stay inside!
SIDNEY
Dewey, what is it? Is someone out
there?
DEWEY (O.S.)
No, but I’m warning you; do not
come outside. Just stay where you
are.

Sidney hesitantly approaches the door, too stubborn and

inquisitive to listen to Dewey’s instructions.
DEWEY (O.S.)
Do you understand me?

SIDNEY
What is out there, Dewey?
DEWEY (O.S.)
Sidney-

Sidney opens the door to reveal DEPUTY DEWEY RILEY standing

with his gun drawn and cop uniform on. Still young and only
recently joined the force. Heart of gold; clearly
inexperienced and seems a little overwhelmed, but sharper
and smarter than you’d assume.
12.

EXT. PRESCOTT HOME - NIGHT

SIDNEY
What is it?
DEWEY
Sidney, go back inside.
SIDNEY
I want to see.

Sidney pushes past Dewey only to stop, freezing in place.

Tears begin to fall from her eyes as Sidney lets out an ear
piercing, heartbroken scream.
Billy Loomis’ gutted corpse, hanging from a tree. His small
intestine is serving as the noose, while the rest of his
guts and organs are pouring onto the grass.

TITLE CARD: SCREAM

INT. POLICE STATION - INTERROGATION ROOM - NIGHT

Sidney blankly stares ahead at SHERIFF BURKE and Dewey as
they question her about the night’s event. She’s completely
out of it; not even really thinking about her replies. Still
just processing the traumatic experience she went through.

SIDNEY
Billy just stopped by for the night
and left right before the call. I
saw a glimpse of someone outside,
but I don’t know who. It was dark.
I think they were shrouded in some
kind of black cloak. White mask.
SHERIFF BURKE
Is that all, Miss Prescott?

SIDNEY
Yeah....
DEWEY
How about we continue this
tomorrow, sheriff?
Sheriff Burke glances at Sidney, sympathetic to how
traumatized she is.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 13.

SHERIFF BURKE
You’re good to go Miss Prescott.
Just stay safe.
SIDNEY
Yeah, yeah. Of course.
Sidney nods, climbs out of her seat, and walks towards the
door. Still pretty numbed out. Burke turns to face Dewey, a
stern look covers his face.

SHERIFF BURKE
Keep an eye on her, deputy. She’s
been through enough as is.
DEWEY
Of course, sir. Any leads on who
did this?
SHERIFF BURKE
None yet, but we’re trying to trace
the call and figure out who sent it
now. We’ll update you if we learn
anything.

INT. POLICE STATION - NIGHT

Sidney is sitting down, just waiting to leave. Staring
blankly off into space as time passes. TATUM RILEY races up
to her. Sidney’s best friend. Woodsboro’s reigning queen
bee. Naturally sassy and feisty. Good at having your back if
she likes you, more than capable of being an absolute bitch
if she doesn’t.

TATUM
Oh my God! Sidney!!
Tatum begins to shake Sidney, jolting her back to reality.

TATUM
Sidney!
SIDNEY
Tatum. Yeah. Sorry. What?

TATUM
Oh my God! I’m glad you’re okay.
Tatum gives Sidney a hug, trying to comfort her.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 14.

TATUM
Dewey told me everything! I am so
sorry about Billy!
SIDNEY
I just... I still can’t even-
TATUM
Don’t say another word.
Tatum, a little bit miffed, turns to face Dewey, he’s on the
opposite side of the police station, talking with one one of
the other officers.
TATUM
DOOFUS! Are we going or no?

DEWEY
Yeah, Tatum, just calm down.
TATUM
Well hurry up.

The other officers in the station chuckle a bit, Tatum turns

her attention back to Sidney.
TATUM
He better be done in a minute.
Look, Sidney, if there’s anything
you need-
SIDNEY
We had sex, Tatum.
Tatum stops talking for a moment, processing what Sidney
just said.
SIDNEY
First time and everything.

TATUM
Sidney, I’m so sorry.
Tatum gives her best friend another hug.
TATUM
I know how important Billy was to
you.
Sidney shakes her head. Tears begin to roll down her face,
like the grief is finally starting to set in after the
initial numbness and processing.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 15.

SIDNEY
He’s gone. Really gone. And never
coming back. And I was right there
the entire time. It happened right
outside.

Tatum puts her arm around Sidney, brushes Sidney’s hair out
of her face.
TATUM
Hey, look at me. This is not your
fault. You’re going to get through
this, Sid. I promise. We’re all
here for you: me, Randy, Stu... all
of us. You’ve got friends.
Sidney does her best to smile at Tatum, genuinely
appreciative of her friend’s efforts.
SIDNEY
Thanks. Do you mind if I just stay
with you? I don’t want to be alone.

TATUM
Mom not home still?
SIDNEY
Of course not. Too self-involved to
even answer the phone, and I really
don’t want to stay with Aunt Kate.
TATUM
You aren’t even going to be given a
choice. You are definitely staying
with us and not that drunk wine
aunt of yours?
SIDNEY
Yeah. Just.. it’ll be safe, right?

TATUM
Sidney, we have an armed cop in the
house. Don’t think it gets much
safer than that.
Sidney nods.

TATUM
Come on, let’s get you home.
Tatum helps Sidney out of her seat as she begins to walk her
to the door of the police station.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 16.

TATUM
Let’s go Doofus! You do not want me
driving!
Dewey grabs his keys, starts to race quickly towards the
girls. The officers in the background again start chuckling.
DEWEY
Tatum, I’m coming. Stop being so
impatient.

TATUM
Stop being so lazy!
Dewey leads the girls outside, quietly snapping at his
sister.

DEWEY
You can’t talk to me like that,
Tatum. My superiors are in there!
TATUM
And your point is?

Dewey sighs, not worth the fight. Tatum rolls her eyes and
continues to lead Sidney outside.

EXT. WOODSBORO HIGH - DAY

The campus is a media circus, and the students are barely

better behaved. A couple students racing around with
Ghostface masks. Local reporters and journalists have
flocked to the high school, interviewing anyone in sight
from students to faculty. An overwhelming sight to behold,
let alone actually navigate through.
Among them is GALE WEATHERS, ice-cold queen bitch. Takes no
prisoners; very much an "If it bleeds, it leads" mindset to
her. Desperate for her big break, no regard for how she
finds it. Standing beside Gale is her camerman, KENNY JONES.
Affable and pleasant, if a bit of a slacker. Kenny and Gale
don’t get along the best, but they make it work. No other
choice for either of them.
GALE
Who was the girl that Billy was
dating again?
KENNY
Sidney Prescott, I think.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 17.

GALE
Shit. She’s the one where I claimed
her dad was drunk when he died in
that car crash, right?

KENNY
Wait, he was sober when he got in
the crash?
GALE
Fuck if I know. But "Drunk Driver"
sells more local copies than
"standard issue car crash."
KENNY
Interviewing her is going to go
great, isn’t it?

GALE
I’ll just make sure she can’t sue
me this time. That did not go well.
Sidney’s making her way into school, with Tatum right beside
her. Dewey’s escorting the two of them.
SIDNEY
Thanks, for the escort Dewey; I
think we can take it from here.

DEWEY
You sure, Sidney?
TATUM
Trust me, Dewey; we can dodge them.
A police escort is just going to
draw more attention to us.
DEWEY
Okay; I’ll be waiting outside,
though. I’m driving you both home.

SIDNEY
Got it. Thank you.
Dewey nods; the two girls split off from him and make their
way through the crowd. Doing their best to be inconspicuous
and dodge cameras; no such luck with Gale Weathers.
GALE
There she is. Move it Kenny!

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 18.

Gale starts racing towards Sidney, Kenny’s pursuing her, but

lagging behind. Actively cutting off Sidney’s route into the
school; the crowd closes in, essentially trapping her.
Gale’s there well before her cameraman.

GALE
Sidney; Sidney! Can I have a word
with you?
Instant groan from Sidney, and Tatum is spectacularly
irritated to see Gale as well.

TATUM
Fuck off.
GALE
After my interview.

TATUM
Move.
Tatum tries to push past the reporter, but Gale isn’t
budging an inch, firmly standing her ground.

GALE
After my interview. Unless you want
me to shout that Sidney’s right
here for every local reporter in
the area to harass.

Sidney sighs, not wanting to deal with Gale as Kenny finally

arrives to see them.
GALE
Jesus. Would you turn the camera on
already?
KENNY
My name isn’t Jesus.
(Beat)
We’re rolling.
Gale flashes her reporter smile.
GALE
This is Gale Weathers reporting
with Sidney Prescott, the
girlfriend of last night’s victim
Billy Loomis, who was gutted and
hung from a tree.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 19.

SIDNEY
Excuse me?
GALE
Traumatized by the grisly details,
she’s here to share her story with
us now. Tell us, Sidney, were you
with Billy the night he died?
SIDNEY
That’s private.

GALE
Is it true that you received a
threatening phonecall?
SIDNEY
None of your business.
GALE
Can you tell me anything?
SIDNEY
Yeah. Fuck off. I didn’t sign up to
be interviewed after your story
about my dad.
Tatum chuckles. Gale’s miffed; this is going nowhere. Not
even a remotely usable interview as of now.

STU
And that’s enough Q&A for one day.
Enter STU MACHER, Tatum’s boyfriend. Lovable goofball:
energetic, preppy, and outgoing. Spoiled sweet. Naturally
endearing. He makes his way over to the group, very
purposefully blocking Kenny from his camera shot. When Kenny
moves, Stu moves as well.
GALE
Who the fuck are you?
STU
None of your goddamn business.
GALE
You’re blocking my cameraman.
STU
Good.
(Beat; looking to Tatum)
Hey babe.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 20.

TATUM
Hey, Stu.
GALE
And they say I’m rude.
(Beat; exasperated)
Just give me one more question.
Stu looks over at Sidney, no intention of letting Gale get
her shot without his friend’s approval.

SIDNEY
One more and you let us go?
GALE
As long as I get my answer.

Sidney nods; Stu moves to the side.

GALE
With both your dad and now
boyfriend dead, what does this say
about you and the people you get
close to? Do you feel at all
responsible for their passings?
That does it. BAM! Punch right to the face, knocking Gale
down into the grass. Gale’s staring up, fury filling her
face. Tatum’s got a big grin, Stu bursts out into
uncontrollable laughter.
STU
Damn!
TATUM
Way to go Sid.
Sidney shrugs; the three of them quickly make their way past
Gale and Kenny, dodging the rest of the media circus to make
their way inside. Stu makes sure to flip Gale and her camera
off on his way in.

STU
Did you bruise her?
Gale, back on her feet, is staring at Kenny. Zeroed back in
immediately on getting an interview.
GALE
Time to find someone else.
(Beat)
Oh, and Kenny.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 21.

Kenny stares at Gale, not looking forward to the inevitable

lashing out.
GALE
I know your about 50 pounds
overweight, so let me make this
clear. The next time that I say
"move," please feel free to
translate that as MOVE YOUR FAT!
TUB OF LARD ASS, NOW!
(Beat)
So let’s try this again, get
moving. Got it?
Gale zips off in hot pursuit of a different student, one a
little more open to her Q&A. A more reluctant Kenny trails
behind her.

INT. WOODSBORO HIGH - CLASSROOM - DAY

CASEY BECKER is seated at her desk, reading The Hunger
Games. Sweet and gentle disposition, skews a little bit
reserved and shy in demeanor.
Casey looks up from her book to see Sidney sitting down
beside her, all eyes on her for better or worse. Casey’s
quick to set it aside and refocus her energy onto a very
guarded Sidney.

CASEY
Oh my God, Sidney!
SIDNEY
Hi, Casey.

CASEY
I’m so sorry! I can’t believe-
SIDNEY
I’d rather not talk about it.
Honestly, I’ve gotten too much
attention as is and first period
just started.
Casey glances around the room. Impossible to miss the
general focus on Sidney, even if people are trying to be
somewhat discreet.
CASEY
I understand. I didn’t mean to
overstep.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 22.

SIDNEY
It’s okay. No harm done.
CASEY
Are you holding up okay?

SIDNEY
I won’t break, Casey. I’m fine;
just focused on getting through the
day.

Yet more resistance. Casey can get the memo, but is trying
to push past it a little.
CASEY
Look, I know our friendship sort of
flatlined since my drunken hook up
with Stu, but... I really am trying
to be here for you.
SIDNEY
Even after I sided with Tatum over
that?

CASEY
Yeah. Not your fault how the
cheating turned out. I’m just
trying to be a nice former friend.

SIDNEY
Then thank you. Genuinely, thank
you.
Sidney drops her walls and guard, at least a little bit,
even smiles. Casey can feel her spirits lifting as well.
Tatum, seated across the room, is shooting absolute daggers
at both girls with her eyes.
CASEY
You’re welcome. If you want
somewhere to stay, my older sister
is off at college now so-
SIDNEY
Thank you, but I’m staying already
with Tatum.

CASEY
Should’ve seen the sleepover with
the best friend coming. I’m glad
you’re somewhere safe.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 23.

SIDNEY
Was not looking forward to sleeping
in that house alone again.
CASEY
I don’t blame you. If that was
Steve and I.... the thought scares
the hell out of me. I don’t know
what I’d do.
SIDNEY
Just stay safe. Cops didn’t have
any leads last night. I don’t know
when he’ll strike again. It’s
horrible.
CASEY
I’m sure they’ll catch him soon.
It’ll be okay.
Sidney lets out a mock laugh, almost a little annoyed. A
puzzled Casey stares at her, genuinely confused.

CASEY
I’m sorry?
SIDNEY
It’s not you. Not really. Just.. it
drives me nuts. All the eggshells
people are walking around on with
me. "Oh, you can count on me" or
"They’ll definitely catch him
soon." We both know they’re not
catching this guy anytime soon;
they don’t even have a lead. I
couldn’t give them anything.
CASEY
I was just trying to help. Be a
little optimistic. I think a lot of
people are.
SIDNEY
I know. I appreciate it. Just..
reality isn’t going to break me. I
don’t get overwhelmed easy. Not a
big one for false hope.
CASEY
They can’t be worse than Mrs.
Thompson there. I’m still reeling
from reading The Scarlet Letter.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 24.

SIDNEY
You and me both.
CASEY
"Timeless romance novel" my ass. I
do better with reading foreign
languages than that.
SIDNEY
Aren’t you flunking French?

CASEY
That’s my point.
Sidney chuckle a little, brightening up.
CASEY
See! I can still make you laugh.
come on; let’s hang out a little
after school before you head to
Tatum’s? It’d do you good to be
with friends, and, honestly, I
could use some too. Don’t have a
whole lot anymore.
SIDNEY
Not spending the day with Steve?
Football practice?

CASEY
History paper.
(Beat)
What do you say?
SIDNEY
I’m sorry, Casey. I’d love to,
just...
CASEY
I get it. No need to apologize. I’m
not really welcome around you and
your friends anymore since Stu and
I hooked up. My fault, not yours.
Casey glances over and notices Tatum, still glaring across
the room at the two girls.

CASEY
Oh, she’s glaring at me even now.
(Beat)
I guess I should just be relieved
she didn’t tell Steve anything.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 25.

SIDNEY
I really am sorry.
Casey’s nodding, her eyes seem to tear up, at least a
little, but she’s working hard to hold them back.

CASEY
It’s fine, honestly. Offer’s there
if you change your mind. I should
probably get to the bathroom,
though; don’t want to interrupt the
middle of class.
Casey, holding back tears, rushes out of the room. Sidney
sighs, looks out the window, and starts twirling her hair.
SIDNEY
Way to go, Sid. You sure handled
that one well.

INT. WOODSBORO HIGH - BATHROOM - DAY

Casey’s staring into the mirror, wiping away the tears and
rinsing our her eyes. Nothing too severe, but trying to have
everything back under control before class. Doesn’t want to
be teary-eyed in front of everyone.
She hears some vague shuffling around. Sounds like someone
else in there.
CASEY
Hello?
Nothing. No response. A little unsettled, Casey shrugs it
off. Finishes clearing out her eyes, turns towards the door
just in time for Tatum to step in, blocking the entrance.
Casey’s anxiety is immediately sky high, waiting for a
venomous jab.

CASEY
Hi, Tatum.
TATUM
Casey! How, how are you?

Tatum flashes Casey an ice-cold, soulless smile.

TATUM
Oh! Were you crying? I think you
need to rinse your eyes out a
little more.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 26.

CASEY
Thanks.
Casey glances in the mirror; she looks fine, no tears to
clear. Bullshit comment. Tatum’s in the mirror, mildly
touching up her makeup. Clearly just an excuse for her to
antagonize Casey.
CASEY
Do you want something?

TATUM
Oh, I was just making sure I looked
okay.
(Beat)
Though I actually did see you
talking with Sidney earlier.

Casey’s heart sinks, face turns a little pale. Just waiting

for whatever jab Tatum has planned.
CASEY
Yeah, I was just trying to help her
after last night.
TATUM
I figured. I just wanted to say:
don’t worry about it. Sidney has
actual friends to do that who
actually spend time with her.
Trust me, I’ve got her back.
CASEY
I wasn’t trying to compete.

TATUM
No, but still. She needs real
friends who are loyal. Not future
homewreckers taking after their
stepmom; has she officially
replaced your real one yet?
Ouch. Lowblow to the max. Casey clearly feels it, but does
her best to shrug it off, not wanting Tatum to see that her
jab hit.

CASEY
Thanks for the advice.
TATUM
See? That wasn’t so bad, was it?
I’ll see you in chemistry.
27.

Tatum, smiling the whole way, makes her out of the bathroom
and waves goodbye. Casey silently nods, back to being on the
verge of tears again. Makes her way towards a bathroom
stall.

INT. NEWS VAN - DAY

Kenny’s comfortably seated and relaxed, camera’s right by
his side. A stressed out Gale is glancing through her
contacts, trying to figure out what to do next.
GALE
We need something BIG here.
Everyone’s got interviews. We need
a lead or a suspect or another
victim or something.
KENNY
Woah, woah. Hold up. Another
victim?

GALE
One local murder? Not selling
papers. Certainly not nation-wide.
Think ambitious here, Kenny. Even
if we just toss out another "in
danger" name. They don’t have to
actually die. Just something to
take the story further.
KENNY
And the source would be?

GALE
The killer’s doing phonecalls,
right? What if he called us and
tipped us off?

KENNY
Except he didn’t.
GALE
Only we know that.

KENNY
Well, I’m not going to lie about
that for you.
GALE
Fuck! Fine. It was just an idea. We
need a lead or a suspect then,
something to crack this case.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 28.

KENNY
I’m sure you have something in
mind.

Gale glances out the window, eyeing Dewey, who’s standing

near the school.
GALE
Think you can get something from
Dewey?
KENNY
Dewey?
GALE
The cop. He’s right outside.
KENNY
With your reputation? Fuck no.
GALE
Yeah; I know that. That’s why I
said you, Kenny.
KENNY
Oh yeah; I’m sure the police are
dying to tell Gale’s cameraman
everything about their
investigation.
GALE
Well, it can’t hurt to try, can it?

KENNY
What are you hoping to get?
GALE
Something to help us catch this
guy. Think about it: if we can pin
these murders on a suspect, we
become THE big story and everyone’s
chasing after our leads now.
KENNY
Couldn’t that compromise the actual
investigation?
GALE
And? Do you want the PR boost and
Hollywood deals or not, Kenny?

Kenny’s face drops a little, but he keeps his composure.

Gale’s staring him down.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 29.

KENNY
Fine; I’ll ask.
GALE
Thank you.

Gale’s back on her phone, digging through her contacts.

Kenny’s up and out of the van.

EXT. WOODSBORO HIGH - DAY

Dewey is seated on a bench outside the school, mostly

relaxed and just keeping an eye on things. Nothing too out
of the ordinary; he’s waiting for Sidney and Tatum to finish
their classes. Kenny makes his way over to him; Dewey
doesn’t bother standing.

DEWEY
(Gesturing away)
I’m sorry, no interviews. I’m going
to need you to go.

KENNY
Do you see a camera on me?
DEWEY
I see the newsvan you came from.
(Beat. Glancing at Gale’s van)
Gale Weathers, right?
KENNY
Yeah. That’s my boss.
DEWEY
As said, no interviews.
KENNY
How about a lead?

DEWEY
Woodsboro police are not sharing
any details of the investigation at
the time.
KENNY
Not from you, for you.
That catches Dewey’s attention; he stands up, more intently
focused on the conversation.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 30.

DEWEY
Do you have anything?
KENNY
Nothing concrete but... I don’t
trust Gale.

DEWEY
The reason being?
KENNY
Aside from seeming happy about our
current murder spree?
DEWEY
Gale and every other reporter in
town. Don’t think that we can
arrest them all.
KENNY
For one, she wanted to fake getting
a phonecall for her news story.

DEWEY
That, on the other hand, is
definitely an issue.
KENNY
There’s just a general callousness
towards everything. I don’t know
that it’s her; I just think she’s
worth keeping an eye on.
DEWEY
Then it’s a good thing I have a new
informant to do that.
KENNY
Who?

Dewey glances Kenny, waiting for it to sink in.

KENNY
Me?
DEWEY
Look, it doesn’t have to be
anything official, and I can’t make
you do it. But you’re the one who
came to me, and you’re the one who
works with her. You’ll be able to
watch Gale better than I can. You
see anything truly suspicious, you

DEWEY (cont’d)
come to me and I can take it from
there.
Kenny ponders it for a second.

KENNY
Okay. But I’m not going for any
heroics.
DEWEY
Wouldn’t expect them.
Kenny turns to go back, but turns back around to face Dewey.
Lightbulb went off.
KENNY
That said, if you want me to watch
her, you gotta give me something.
DEWEY
Give you something?

KENNY
Pretty sure Gale’s on the verge of
firing me. She wants some kind of
lead on the investigation. I can’t
watch her if she boots me.

DEWEY
I don’t want to compromise anything
confidential.
KENNY
She’s gonna fire me if I don’t have
something.
DEWEY
Hmm.

Dewey’s paused for a moment; debating what’s the best

approach to take here.
DEWEY
Tell her we’re investigating
students. Doesn’t give anything
away since we’re investigating
everyone, but might be enough to
hold her over. Maybe that we’re
tracking the call; that’s all over
the news anyways. Official details
everyone knows.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 32.

KENNY
Not great, but I can frame it as
confirmation, I guess.
DEWEY
How about if I wanted to talk to
Gale next time?
KENNY
You do?

DEWEY
Oh yeah; I have the biggest
celebrity crush on Gale Weathers.
Don’t you see the puppy eyes?
KENNY
That might just work.
DEWEY
Perfect. Tell me if you stumble on
anything.

KENNY
Will do.
Kenny splits off, heading back towards his van, while Dewey
stays by his post and keeps an eye out until school ends.

INT. WOODSBORO HIGH - CAFETERIA - DAY

Seated at the lunch table are Stu and Tatum, joined by RANDY
MEEKS, nerdy and excitable horror buff. Naturally energetic
and enthusiastic, but generally introverted.

RANDY
You know, as much as I love slasher
movies, I never actually wanted to
live through one.

TATUM
Come on, Randy. Seriously?
RANDY
Think about it; all the elements
are right there: a mysterious
killer, the opening kill, the
warning shot to our final girl who
has a disposable friend group.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 33.

STU
Who you calling disposable?

RANDY
Hey, I’m in there too. Not a
slasher without victims, and Sid’s
friends are the most likely
targets.

TATUM
Randy, come on. It could just be an
isolated incident.
RANDY
Oh, yeah. The mysterious killer who
harasses Sidney and guts her
boyfriend definitely plans to
leave their bodycount at one.
Forget horror movies; have you
looked up any serial killer ever? I
guarantee you: someone else is dead
before the day ends.
STU
That someone being?

RANDY
One of us. Have I just been
rambling to myself here?
TATUM
Yes.

STU
I’m just too smart to follow.
TATUM
From the guy at the table who could
not get into a single honors class.
STU
Babe, you’re looking at the
smartest person at this table.

RANDY
Now that is a terrifying thought.
STU
You know how it goes; D is for
Delightful and F is for Fantastic.

Stu’s all giggles and smiles, trying to lighten the mood a

little bit. Keep stuff positive. It’s at least a little
infectious for the trio.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 34.

RANDY
Yeah... the goofball isn’t dying
next. Good luck Tatum. Our odds
just got worse.

Eyeroll from Tatum, somewhere between playful and annoyed.

Sidney makes her way towards the table, a little anxious and
reserved, but holding it together. Tatum waves over to her.
TATUM
Sid, hey!

SIDNEY
Hi guys.
Randy scoots over a bit, trying to make some room for
Sidney; she doesn’t notice and just takes the closer seat
next to Tatum. She’s a little somber in general.
RANDY
You doing okay, Sid?

SIDNEY
I guess? I still miss Billy, and
the reporters don’t help.
RANDY
Just ignore them.

TATUM
Or punch them in the face.
Sidney blushes, slightly embarrassed. Stu’s got a big grin
and is laughing; Tatum’s beaming. Randy’s somewhere between
shock and amusement.
RANDY
You what?
SIDNEY
Do you plan on telling the whole
school I punched Gale?
RANDY
Sid, that is awesome.

SIDNEY
Thanks.
STU
Only the upperclassmen. The
freshmen might think you’re cooler
than me otherwise.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 35.

TATUM
Trust me, Stu, they already do.
STU
Yeah, but I’m dating you. Makes me
a zillion times cooler.

TATUM
That is part of my appeal. Just
hanging out with me bumped Randy
right up to cool nerd status.

RANDY
Taking credit where it isn’t due.
(Beat)
For real, though, Sid, we’re all
here for you.

STU
What your secret admirer said.
RANDY
Stu-

STU
Like she can’t tell.
Randy seems on the embarrassed end from the playful teasing.
Some chuckling from Sidney; her somber spirits lift, at
least a little.
SIDNEY
Thanks, guys. I really am okay.
Just powering through; you know how
it is for me.

RANDY
Well, if you need anything-
SIDNEY
For sure, thanks.

Mildly awkward silence; Sidney seems lost in thought. Zoned

out, at least a little. Stu’s glancing at his phone.
RANDY
Oh, is that a new case? I never saw
the Captain America one before.
STU
New phone, actually. Lost my old
one.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 36.

RANDY
How do you lose your cellphone?
TATUM
My boyfriend being irresponsible;
who’d have thought?

STU
Randy said it earlier, I’m the
group goofball.

RANDY
And your parents just buy you a new
one? Seriously?
STU
I am extremely lucky they don’t
check my credit card bill. Ever.
Sidney’s totally zoned out at this point. Tatum waves her
hand in front of Sidney’s face.
TATUM
Earth to Sidney.
SIDNEY
Sorry. I just keep expecting Billy
to pop up somewhere before
remembering he’s gone. It almost
feels surreal.
TATUM
I get you. I can’t imagine what I’d
do if I lost Stu.

Stu wraps his arm around Tatum, a little bit between loving
and protective.
STU
We won’t find that, and you’re not
going anywhere either. I will
totally protect you. I am so buff,
I got you covered girl.
RANDY
Oh, yeah. Very intimidating.

STU
Hey, only half this school could
take me in a fight. I can protect
Tatum from the other half.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 37.

TATUM
You mean the half I can handle
myself?
STU
Exactly! As I said, I’ve got you
totally covered.
The two giggle, exchange another quick kiss. Sidney’s happy
to see her friends doing well, but still a little lost in
her own head. Randy’s starting to feel exceptionally fourth
wheeled, glancing at his phone. The bell rings; Sidney races
out of her seat and to her feet. Tatum isn’t far behind.

INT. WOODSBORO HIGH - CLASSROOM - DAY

Stu’s sitting in the back of the room next to his best

friend, STEVE "STEVE" ORTH. Letterman jacket, attractive,
cocky. Meathead jock to the max. Neither guy is bothering
with paying attention to the actual class.
STEVE
Fuck me. They cancel football
practice but not school.
STU
Steve, come on. We can hang out
tonight; we’ll have a blast. One
practice is no big.
STEVE
One practice is a big deal if it
costs me a football scholarship.
I’m not like you, Stu; my dad can’t
pay my way through college like
your parents can.
STU
Steve, I promise. You are
Woodsboro’s golden boy star
athlete. It will be fine.
STEVE
Easy for you to say.

STU
Billy was the only one here who
could match up to you on the
football field. You’re the best
player on our team.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 38.

STEVE
(Sarcastic)
Gee, thanks.
Stu goes quiet; a little awkward and unsure of how to
reassure his friend. Starts spacing a little bit.
STEVE
How’s she doing?
Stu is jolted back into the conversation.

STU
Huh?
STEVE
Sidney. How’s she doing?

STU
She seems fine, I guess? I don’t
know. Her boyfriend’s dead and she
saw his body. How do you expect her
to feel?

STEVE
Anything but fine. What happened
was fucked up.
STU
You know Sidney. Just zeroes in and
powers through. It’s her way of
dealing; it was the same after she
lost her dad.

Steve nods, a little lost in thought.

STEVE
Who do you think did it?
STU
No fucking clue. Billy was kind of
asshole; no shortage of enemies.
STEVE
I bet it was Randy.

STU
(Rolling his eyes)
Oh, okay. Glad you solved the case
for us.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 39.

STEVE
Dude’s been a psycho weirdo since
we were kids, and we both know
Billy bullied him for it. Freakshow
probably snapped.

STU
From the guy who just got suspended
for getting into yet another fist
fight. Steve, dude, if anyone
here’s a killer, it’s probably you.

Stu starts giggling jovially. Steve playfully, softly

punches his friend’s arms, both guys are laughing.
STU
(Jokingly)
Help! Help! This is assault. I’m
being attacked.
STEVE
Oh yeah? Just wait until I break
your arm.

STU
No wonder these cops interviewed
you; you’re so violent.
STEVE
Wait, they didn’t interview you?
STU
Pfft, no. Like I could harm a fly.
STEVE
I didn’t even get the point. I
mean, they asked me if I like to
hunt. What does that have to do
with anything?

STU
Well, Billy was gutted.
STEVE
And that’s supposed to mean
something to me?

STU
Hunters do it all the time with
their kills. You take a knife and
you slit ’em from groin to sternum.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 40.

STEVE
Tactful.
STU
I know! It takes a man to do
something like that.
(Beat)
Really, though, why do you think
that they didn’t interview me?
STEVE
Well, as you said, it takes a man
to do something like that.
STU
Fucker.

Just in time for the bell ring; class is over, and both boys
are making their way into the hallways, which are flooding
with other student.

INT. WOODSBORO HIGH - HALLWAY - DAY

Casey’s at her locker, packing up books into her backpack.

Steve standing beside her; arms wrapped around her. Part
protective, part loving.
CASEY
Just promise me you’re going to be
careful, okay?
STEVE
Have you looked at me? No killer
stands a chance.

Steve flexes his muscles and smiles at Casey, somewhere

between cocky and reassuring. She smiles back, almost done
packing up.

CASEY
I guess.
STEVE
You guess? I’m our star quarterback
for a reason.

Steve goes in for a kiss as Randy makes his way down the
hallway, approaching his locker across from Casey’s.
Actively trying to avoid contact.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 41.

STEVE
Look! It’s our resident psychopath.
Randy sighs, turning to face Steve. Casey seems frustrated
with her boyfriend and at least a little bit stressed.

CASEY
God, can you just leave him alone
today?
STEVE
Like he left Billy and Sidney alone
last night?
(Beat)
Hey Randy, why’d you carve him up?
Was it payback for Billy’s
bullying, or were you just that
obsessed with Sidney?
RANDY
What do you want, Steve?
STEVE
I’m serious, dude. Where were you
last night?
RANDY
Worked at Hot Topic, went home,
watched Halloween.

Randy goes back to focusing on his locker, trying to ignore

Steve’s taunting and antagonization.
STEVE
I’m just saying: Sidney’s boyfriend
gets butchered, the horror-obsessed
stalker he liked to beat up seems
like suspect #1 if you ask me.
CASEY
Steve, enough. Can you just stop
this already?
STEVE
No. If Randy doesn’t want me
quizzing him, he shouldn’t have
gutted my friend
RANDY
I didn’t kill Billy.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 42.

STEVE
(Sarcastic)
Very convincing.

RANDY
But let’s say I did. I’m on my big
Revenge of the Nerds killing spree.
You think bullying me is smart?
Maybe I’ll gut you next.

STEVE
I think I could take you if you
tried anything.
No physical contact, but Steve’s up in Randy’s face now.
Aggressive posture. He’s definitely the stronger of the two,
and Steve’s clearly flaunting it. Casey’s not happy with
where it’s going, but not sure what to do.
RANDY
How about you, Steve? How do I know
you’re not the killer?
STEVE
Was at this beautiful girl’s house
last night.

Steve smiles at Casey, genuine affection. She’s still uneasy

with the entire confrontation.
RANDY
Before or after you sliced and
diced?
STEVE
Oh yeah. I gutted my own friend.
You caught me.

RANDY
Hyper-aggressive muscled up jock?
Why not? You’ve certainly got the
tendencies towards violence.
STEVE
And why kill my own friend?
RANDY
He’s outshining you on the football
field and you’ll lose your
scholarship to him? Proof of your
"innocence"? Not hard for a psycho
to find a stupid bullshit reason to
kill anyone.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 43.

STEVE
Trust me, if I was gutting anyone
to kick off a murder spree, it’d be
you, not Billy.
RANDY
Hmm, picking on the scrawny nerd.
Checks out for the cowardly jock
douche.

Steve’s temper genuinely flares up; Randy struck a nerve

there. Instantly goes for intimidating posture. Randy is
completely unphased.
STEVE
What’d you call me, freakshow?
RANDY
Oh, I’m sorry. Did I strike a
nerve, coward?

Steve gives Randy a shove; small, but just enough force to

send a message. Randy takes it, death glare.
CASEY
Stop it!

Steve takes a moment to calm down; turns his attention back

towards his girlfriend.
STEVE
Sorry, Casey.

He gives her a gentle, loving hug. Genuinely a little

remorseful.
RANDY
Well, that was fun. Let’s not do it
again sometime.
STEVE
Fuck off.
RANDY
Gladly.
Randy’s done at his locker, promptly clears out. Steve’s
attention is entirely on Casey.
CASEY
Just lay off him, Steve. Things are
bad enough without the bullying.
You and Billy have been picking on
Randy for years; give it a rest.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 44.

STEVE
Sure, when he stops giving me a
reason to hate him.
CASEY
He was just standing there.
STEVE
Yeah, menacingly.
(Beat)
Come on, you don’t even like the
guy.
Steve tries to wrap his arms are around Casey.
STEVE
I love you.

Casey pushes him off, still frustrated with her boyfriend.

CASEY
Not right now, Steve.

STEVE
Okay, okay. I’ll back off on Randy
for you. Happy?
CASEY
(Exasperated)
Thank you.
(Beat)
I need to stop by the bathroom
quick, I’ll be right back.

STEVE
No prob; see you in a moment.
Casey makes her way out; Steve relaxes, pulls out his phone,
chills on it. Glances up to see pranksters racing up and
down the hall in Ghostface masks. Suddenly, one lunges at
Steve, shouting at him. Steve defensively recoils, but no
physical contact; the prankster starts laughing while an
unamused Steve rips the mask off revealing CONNOR ORTH,
Steve’s younger brother. Mischievous, irresponsible. Prone
to acting out just like his brother, but moreso through
pranks and antics than bullying and antagonization.

STEVE
What the fuck Connor? Are you
kidding me? More stupid pranks?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 45.

CONNOR
Bro, chill, it’s just a joke.
Everyone’s wearing these anyways.
Supposedly it’s the killer’s mask.

STEVE
And they know this how?
CONNOR
One got stolen from a costume store
the other day. Everyone thinks it’s
Billy’s killer who snatched it.
STEVE
You mean the killer who just gutted
my friend?

CONNOR
Steve, I told you, chill. It’s just
a joke. Now give me my mask back.
Connor pulls his mask back, ripping it out of his brother’s
hands. Steve doesn’t have it in him to go after his brother
too hard, even with his obvious frustration.
STEVE
Jokes are meant to be funny.
CONNOR
Your face was pretty funny if you
ask me.
STEVE
Whatever, just put that thing away.
We’ve gotta go home now.
CONNOR
No can do.
STEVE
Seriously?
CONNOR
Got detention. Turns out that Mrs.
Parker didn’t find it quite so
funny when I popped out and scared
her on the way into class.
STEVE
No shit. But you are not serving
that detention.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 46.

CONNOR
Dude, it’s no big.
STEVE
You are not staying here late with
a serial killer on the loose. I
don’t care if you have a detention.
CONNOR
Steve, I promise. I’ll be fine.
Home’s literally a couple blocks
away. I am in school. I am
completely safe.
STEVE
(Hesitantly)
Fine, but come straight home. No
hanging out late with friends
teepeeing the school as payback or
whatever this time.
CONNOR
Steve, come on. Chill.

STEVE
I’m serious.
CONNOR
Fine, fine. I’ll be careful.

STEVE
Thank you. I love you.
CONNOR
I love you too.

Quick brotherly hug between the two before Connor splits

off, making his way towards detention.

EXT. WOODSBORO HIGH - DAY

Kids are clearing out of the school. The reporters have
dispersed compared to earlier; a little more relaxed now.
Sun’s still up; comfortable and safe environment. Sidney,
Tatum, Stu, and Randy are clustered together, seated by a
fountain and relaxing.
TATUM
So guess who just saw Jawbreaker
again this weekend?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 47.

SIDNEY
How many times can one person watch
the same movie?

STU
You do not want to know.
RANDY
Can’t be worse than me and
Valentine.
STU
Trust me, it is. If I have to watch
Jawbreaker again, I will gouge my
own eyes out.

TATUM
Well, now we have to watch it
tonight.
STU
Fuuuuuuck me.
TATUM
You never know, it could be fun to
play along. Recreate Rose’s "big
stick" scene.

Tatum flashes a grin back at her boyfriend, whose eagerness

hypes up in an instant. Randy and Sidney are somewhere
between laughing and cringing.
RANDY
Get a room you two.
STU
I’m game.

TATUM
Easy Stu. Maybe later.
SIDNEY
(Interrupting)
SHIT!

Everyone looks at Sidney, a little confused.

STU
Everything okay?

SIDNEY
I forgot my chemistry book. I’ll be
right back.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 48.

TATUM
Sid, just forget the chemistry
book. No big deal.

SIDNEY
Maybe for you. I’ll be right back,
I promise.
RANDY
You really had to say it twice?
SIDNEY
What?
RANDY
I’ll be right back. Like, the
number one thing you don’t say in a
slasher movie.
SIDNEY
Ohhhh. Well, in that case, I’ll be
right back.
Sidney’s up and out, giggling a little and making her way
back into the school and leaving the others behind. An
exasperated Randy sits there, almost a bit stunned.

RANDY
Sidney is so lucky she’s the
designated final girl. Splitting
off and mocking the rules like that
is a death sentence. Anyone else
and they’d be going next.
STU
For saying be right back?
RANDY
For splitting up. Slasher movies
need victims, but they can’t kill
everyone at once or it all ends too
fast. People get isolated and
picked off. Thins the numbers down,
but doesn’t disrupt the pacing or
ensemble; it’s why you always stay
in groups. Keeps you safe until the
last act at least. The more often
you self-isolate, the more likely
you are to die.

TATUM
So what’s your group gathering
tonight for safety?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 49.

RANDY
Don’t have one; figured slasher
movie, reddit, stay in.
STU
So much for safety in numbers.
RANDY
Nerdy introverts are fucked in
horror. If I wasn’t a red herring,
I’d be scared for my life. I think
my suspect status saves me here.
Can’t lose me too soon.
STU
You’re a suspect?

RANDY
Horror buff. Crush on Sidney. Her
boyfriend bullied me and got
gutted. I’m not a suspect; I’m the
suspect. Why do you think the cops
were quizzing my scrawny ass today?

STU
Am I the only guy here they didn’t
interview?
RANDY
Apparently so. Checks out to me;
when’s the goofball ever the
killer? It’s bound to be one of me,
Steve, or Gale. I bet they’re on
her too.

TATUM
Oh God, I hope they arrest her.
RANDY
Don’t we all?

STU
I keep expecting you to assign
homework after one of these slasher
lectures.

RANDY
Stu, you will go home and watch
some 80s slasher movies
immediately.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 50.

TATUM
What one are you watching?
RANDY
Texas Chainsaw 3D. Figured I’d
round the series out.

STU
Is that the one we saw or no?
TATUM
Duh. It had Trey Songz in it. Trust
me, Randy, you’ll regret that
choice.
RANDY
Oh, I know. The completionist in me
can’t help myself.
STU
You sure we watched it? Because I
really can’t remember it.

TATUM
Trust me, I always remember
shirtless Trey Songz.
STU
I think I liked the remake more.

TATUM
You definitely liked the remake
more.
RANDY
Remakes suuuuuck.
STU
The remake had Jessica Biel in a
tank top; nothing is topping that.

TATUM
Stu!
STU
Oh, but you can gaze at shirtless
Trey Songz?
TATUM
We can gaze at shirtless Trey
Songz. You do not get to gaze at
Jessica Biel.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 51.

STU
(Half-joking; half-bothered)
I think that counts as biphobic.
TATUM
You’re about to become very
celibate very soon.
STU
Okay, okay. Sorry babe.

Stu wraps his arm around Tatum, kisses her neck. All
attention back on her, exactly where a beaming Tatum wants
it to be.
TATUM
That’s more like it.

RANDY
You’re never going to get that
room, are you?
STU
Nope. Like you said, don’t split
off.
RANDY
Watching you two dry hump was not
quite what I had in mind with that
advice.
Sidney makes her way back out to the group, textbook in
hand. Big, teasing smile on her face. Randy’s both genuinely
happy to see Sidney back and very relieved for someone to
disrupt Tatum and Stu.
RANDY
Sidney, oh thank God. Save me from
these two.

SIDNEY
See Randy. Alive and well. Nothing
to fear.
RANDY
Yeah, because you have plot armor.
The main character can’t drop dead
in Act 1.
TATUM
Someone’s never seen Nightmare on
Elm Street.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 52.

RANDY
Saw both. Decoy protagonists, not
the main character. Nancy’s alive
and well for the closing credits.

STU
(Playfully)
Know-it-all.
RANDY
I’ll take that as a compliment.

STU
Meant as one; you’re like a walking
encyclopedia on horror. It’s cool.
RANDY
Thanks. It’s fun to show off.
Smiles and jokes subside a bit; Sidney turns to face Tatum.
SIDNEY
Okay, we going to your house?

TATUM
No, we’re going to your other best
friend’s house.
Randy gives Tatum a confused look.

STU
You mean the way less hot than you
best friend.

TATUM
(Rolling his eyes)
Boys...
STU
Bye babe.

TATUM
See ya.
Tatum’s up and off the fountain, making her way off campus
and towards Dewey’s car.

TATUM
Come on Sid! I don’t want to be
waiting all day.
Sidney races after her best friend.

(CONTINUED)

RANDY
Bye Sid!
TATUM
(Flirtatiously)
Bye Randy.

Stu stares at Tatum then twists his head towards Randy.

Somewhere between laughing and annoyed. Seriously?
SIDNEY
Bye Randy!

INT. ORTH HOUSE - DAY

Steve enters in through the garage door, dropping his
backpack on a chair near it. Way more guarded than he was at
school. Almost a little scared.
STEVE
Hello? Dad?

No response. The lights are on, but he doesn’t see anyone

nearby. Dead empty.
STEVE
Dad? Ryan? Anyone here?

Still no response. Steve walks across the living room

towards a couch. He looks over it to see his dad passed out
on it, beer bottles surrounding him. There’s a football game
playing on the TV. Steve’s completely unsurprised, but still
a little gutted on the inside. Looks like he wants to die.

STEVE
Ryan? Are you here?
He makes his way over to the staircase to see RYAN ORTH,
Steve’s youngest brother, just a little kid. He’s bawling
his eyes out, tears rolling down his face.

STEVE
Hey! Hey, it’s me.
Steve’s quick to make his way towards his little brother,
big hug. Not letting him go.
RYAN
I’m sorry for crying.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 54.

STEVE
No, no. Cry all you need. I’m here.
It’s okay. What’s going on? Was it
dad?

Ryan’s nodding, too upset to really speak.

STEVE
Whatever he said, don’t listen to
him.

RYAN
He was yelling at me earlier.
Telling me I was worthless. He made
fun of me for crying-
STEVE
He’s the worthless one. You didn’t
do anything. I promise. I love you.
Ryan nods. The tears are starting to stop.
STEVE
He didn’t hurt you or anything
right?
RYAN
(Shaking his head)
No.

STEVE
That’s good. How about we go out
for ice cream or something fun?
Does that sound good?

Ryan nods. The tears are starting to stop, he smiles a

little bit. Happy his older brother’s there. Steve’s leading
Ryan over towards the garage, pulls out his phone, and
starts texting Stu. "Stay at your house tonight?"

INT. WOODSBORO HIGH - CLASSROOM - DAY

Connor’s seated at a desk, bored out of his mind, turning
old notes into paper balls and shooting them into the
recycle bin. Other students are seated around the classroom;
a couple working on homework, most bored out of their minds.
MISS CAMPBELL
Alright, detention’s over.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 55.

CONNOR
Fucking finally.
MISS CAMPBELL
Language.

CONNOR
Sorry, Miss Campbell.
Connor’s up, on his feet, got his backpack making his way
out of the classroom quick, much like the other students.

INT. WOODSBORO HIGH - HALLWAY - DAY

The students are dispersing all throughout. Lights are on
downstairs, for now. Connor makes his way towards the
staircase, ascending up towards his locker alone. Lights
upstairs are off, though sunlight from the windows keeps
everything visible. It’s dead silent; you could hear a pin
drop. Connor shoots a quick text over to Steve. "Detention
just ended. Be home soon; just getting my stuff."

Connor’s at his locker, opening it. Glancing around the

hallway, a little anxiously. Can’t quite shake the feeling
he’s being watched. Not fond of it, but doesn’t see
anything.
CONNOR
Fuck, this is creepy.
Connor’s finished at his locker. Closes it. Ghostface on the
other side, staring right at him. He jumps.
CONNOR
Okay, real funny, Richie.
Ghostface simply shakes his head. Silent.
CONNOR
Charlie? Amber?
Shakes his head again.
CONNOR
Okay, which of my friends are you
then?
Silent staring. No response. Connor’s starting to get a
little uneasy.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 56.

CONNOR
I’m serious. Prank’s over. Take the
mask off.
Connor reaches for the mask; Ghostface quickly grabs his
arm, cutting him off.
CONNOR
Don’t touch me.
Ghostface is going for the knife next. Connor’s eyes turn
fearful, he starts struggling to pull away from Ghostface.
Ghostface slice’s Connor’s arm, drawing blood.
CONNOR
Fuck. Let go of me.

Connor succeeds, ripping his arm away from the killer. Slams
his backpack into Ghostface; doesn’t do much, but seems to
daze him for a moment as Connor races off towards the
stairs, trying to pull his cellphone out to call for help
along the way. The glow of the downstairs lights are off; no
one else is here anymore. Sinks in for Connor quick.

CONNOR
Shit. Someone help me!
No reply. School’s empty aside from Connor and the killer at
this point. Ghostface is pursuing him; definitely moving
faster than Connor is. Connor’s trying to dial 911 as he
makes it to the top of the stairs, but Ghostface is right on
him before Connor can. The two are struggling with one
another, but Ghostface gets the upper hand. Shoves Connor
over the railing, sending the teen tumbling onto the floor
below. Connor smashes into the ground hard. Landing right on
his back.
Connor, bloodied and bruised, but alive, and, miraculously,
able to at least limp to his feat. His phone, launched away
during the fall, is shattered and busted. Not in working
condition. He’s moving, but definitely struggling. Ghostface
starts walking down the stairs, moving more slowly to draw
it out. Enjoying the pursuit at least a little bit. Connor
can’t go fast; he is not going to get to an exit in time.
Glances around, ducks into the school’s nearby library.

INT. WOODSBORO HIGH - LIBRARY - DAY

Connor’s in; moving towards the bookshelves, ducking behind
one to hide. Peering through the books to try and see
Ghostface, who enters. Moving slowly.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 57.

Ghostface is moving towards the bookshelves, the obvious

hiding space. As he starts moving down the center aisle,
Connor shifts, ducking to the side, obstructing the killer’s
view. Moves further into the library. He can’t see the
killer anymore, but the killer can’t see him either.

Connor’s peering through books again. Can’t see anything

yet. He goes proactive, weaves in and out of the shelves,
trying to make his way back towards the entrance, hoping to
get away. He can’t stall for time forever.

Connor catches sight of the Ghost through the books; right

in front of him, one aisle up. Connor freezes, ducks back
behind a book case and starts peering through, waiting to
see where Ghostface goes next. Ghostface turns towards the
shelf, shoving it towards Connor. Connor’s moving as quick
as he can, almost out before it topples, but not quite.
Connor’s only half out. The collapsing bookshelf knocks him
to the ground; it hurts, but Connor’s still trying to crawl
out. Ghostface circles around towards him. Connor’s
teary-eyed and terrified.
CONNOR
Please don’t. Please.
Ghostface has the voice changer out, speaking right into it;
the exact same voice as on Sidney’s call earlier.
GHOSTFACE
You shouldn’t have imitated me.
Ghostface brings the hunting knife down on Connor. Again and
again. Ripping through his flesh stab after stab.

INT. RILEY HOUSE - TATUM’S ROOM - NIGHT

The pajama-clad duo of Tatum and Sidney are sitting on
separate beds, completely relaxed and chill. Tatum’s playing
with a stuffed bunny rabbit. The news is playing on TV in
front of both girls, before switching over to a report from
Gale Weathers. Tatum’s quick to turn it off.
TATUM
I am still thinking of early today.
That was so awesome. Bam! Bitch
went down!
SIDNEY
What?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 58.

TATUM
Punching Gale Weathers! You
basically experience every
Woodsboro teen’s dream.
SIDNEY
It was... actually very inspiring.
I’d do it again.

TATUM
Can I help out?
SIDNEY
You can kick her while she’s down.

TATUM
That is nowhere near as fun.
SIDNEY
I guess it sucks to be you then.

Tatum throws her bunny at Sidney, who ducks. It flies into

Dewey’s face as he opens the door.
TATUM
Shit! Sorry!

DEWEY
Nice aim.
TATUM
You weren’t supposed to open the
door!

DEWEY
I was just checking in on you two.
Everything okay?

SIDNEY
We’re fine Dewey. Don’t worry.
DEWEY
Okay, call if you need anything.

TATUM
We will! Bye Doofus.
Dewey tosses the bunny back towards a giggling Tatum, she
catches it as he closes the door.

TATUM
So I was thinking we just skip
school tomorrow. Mom calls us in
sick. How’s that sound?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 59.

SIDNEY
Amazing. Unfortunately, I have a
lit test and I don’t really want to
make it up.

TATUM
That’s why I wanted to skip; turns
out, "Adjacent trauma" doesn’t work
for opting out of tests.
SIDNEY
(Giggling)
Adjacent trauma?
TATUM
Laugh it up Sid.
(Beat)
Fine. I guess I’ll suffer through
school with you. Sign of
solidarity. Rah. Rah.
RING. RING. Sidney’s cellphone goes off.

TATUM
Think your mom’s finally calling?
SIDNEY
Doubt it. You underestimate just
how self-involved she is.

Sidney checks the caller ID: private. Fear covers her face
immediately. Tatum, more relaxed, glances at her friend.
TATUM
Don’t worry Sid, I got this.
Tatum takes the cellphone from her friend and answers the
call, putting it on speaker.
TATUM
Hello?
VOICE
Is Sidney there?
TATUM
Maybe, why?
VOICE
I want to talk to her.

(CONTINUED)

TATUM
I’m sorry; Sidney’s screening all
mysterious calls through her best
friend. Who is this?

VOICE
Guess.
TATUM
Umm... Aaron from my 5th period
chem class.

VOICE
You’re dumber than you look. How’s
the sleepover going?
Tatum and Sidney both glance around, a little uneasy that
the killer knows exactly where they are.
TATUM
I don’t know what you’re talking
about.

VOICE
Sure you do; can I speak with
Sidney now?
TATUM
Haven’t you put her through enough?

VOICE
Not yet.
TATUM
What do you want?
VOICE
Nothing really. I already gutted
her boyfriend. He begged for his
life. I was thinking add a friend
or two to the bodycount. How’s that
sound to you?
Tatum goes dead silent, a little unsure of what to say.
Sidney’s scared, a little bit teary eyed. He definitely hit
a cord.

VOICE
Maybe a sexy little blonde, the
class homecoming queen. Don’t
worry, I’ll make sure it hurts. We
can start by ripping off those
perfectly manicured nails of yours.

VOICE (cont’d)
Then your eyes. No wait, then your
tongue. I don’t think I can talk
with you much longer.
TATUM
Fuck you.
VOICE
A bit morbid, isn’t it? I mean, if
pain turns you on, I’m happy to
oblige. A little S&M action
perhaps? Or should I just go back
to gouging your eyes out?

Tatum goes silent, no snarky comeback this time. Genuinely

disturbed. Sidney mouths "Can I have the phone?" to her.
Tatum nods, silently, and hands it to Sidney.
SIDNEY
What do you want?

VOICE
Sidney! I knew you were hiding from
me.
SIDNEY
What the fuck do you want?
VOICE
I want you! Alone, helpless,
friendless. I want to take away
everything you have.
SIDNEY
What makes you think I’m willing to
just give all that up?

VOICE
What makes you think I won’t just
take it like I took your pathetic
boyfriend from you?
SIDNEY
For one, I know you’re coming. Not
catching me by surprise this time.
VOICE
You are; they aren’t. Do you even
who I’m going to kill next?

Silence. No reply. She looks at Tatum and mouths "Dewey."

Tatum nods, racing out of the room to find her brother.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 62.

VOICE
Didn’t think so. You’ll see. I
don’t want to spoil the surprise
for you.

SIDNEY
Not event a hint? Don’t want to
taunt me some more?
VOICE
As I said, you’ll see. Don’t worry.
I promise I won’t disappoint.
Dewey, armed, runs into the room, Tatum right behind him. He
quickly grabs the phone from Sidney, who’s more than
relieved to be rid of it.

DEWEY
Who is this?
VOICE
Woodsboro’s finest. How does it
feel to know that you couldn’t save
him, deputy?
DEWEY
Shut up.
VOICE
You know you could’ve. If you just
drove a little faster. Or if you
weren’t so concerned with your own
safety. Maybe Billy Loomis would
still be alive if not for you.

DEWEY
I’m going to find you, and-
VOICE
And what? Arrest me? Kill me? I’m
not interested in you right now,
deputy. If you value your life, I’d
keep it that way. Piss me off and
I’ll fuck you up more than that
little bitch sister you have.

Click. Silence. Line goes dead.

TATUM
What was that?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 63.

DEWEY
Tatum-
TATUM
What the fuck was that?

SIDNEY
Tatum, calm down. It’ll only be-
TATUM
Easy for you to calm down! He
doesn’t want you dead; he wants us
dead.
DEWEY
He’s not going to kill you, Tatum.
No one else is dying on my watch.
We’re tracking these calls now and
we’ll be on this one too. Just try
and get some sleep. I’m watching
over you two like a hawk all day
tomorrow; he won’t get past me. I
promise.

A crying, panicked Tatum nods. She walks towards her bed,

moving the covers aside and climbing in. Still deeply
unsettled.
TATUM
Good night, Dewey.
DEWEY
You too, Tatum. Sidney. Sleep well.
SIDNEY
Thanks, Dewey.
TATUM
Yeah right. Nightmares for fucking
sure.

Dewey’s sympathetic to Tatum, but unsure of what to say. He

simply nods, turns the lights off, and closes the door.

EXT. WOODSBORO HIGH - DAY

Tatum and Sidney slowly approach Woodsboro High. If

yesterday was a media circus, today’s a full blown event.
Cameras and reporters are everywhere. Students completely
surrounding the campus, even more wearing Ghostface masks
than yesterday. Not a single soul is inside.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 64.

TATUM
What the hell?
SIDNEY
What’s going on?

TATUM
I have no idea. Why is everyone
outside?
The girls make their way through the mob of students and
reporters surrounding the school; Randy ducks over towards
the two of them, cutting through the crowd.
RANDY
Tatum! Sidney!

TATUM
Randy? What the fuck is going on?
RANDY
You didn’t hear?

SIDNEY
Hear what?
TATUM
Spill already. God.

RANDY
School’s canceled. Steve’s brother,
Connor. They found him hanging from
the football field’s goal post.
TATUM
And our school wasn’t worried about
a hazing.
RANDY
No, he’s dead, Tatum! Gutted.

SIDNEY
What? You can’t be serious?
RANDY
I am, Sid. First Billy and now
Connor.
SIDNEY
Oh my God.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 65.

RANDY
I tried warning you guys; no way
this guy stops at one murder.
TATUM
This has to be a joke.
RANDY
See for yourself.
Tatum pushes her way through the crowd, leading Sidney and
Randy towards the football field.
TATUM
(Impatiently)
Move! Get out of my way!

EXT. WOODSBORO HIGH - FOOTBALL FIELD - DAY

Connor’s gutted body hangs on the goal post at the far end
of the field. No one’s actually managed to get it down yet.
Students are snapping photos and videos from afar while,
nearby, Gale Weathers is trying to get a good shot of the
body while Kenny films her.
GALE
This is Gale Weathers reporting
from Woodsboro High; there’s been
yet another murder in this string
of senseless violence. A young boy,
gutted and hung from a football
goal.
Tatum breaks through the crowd on the opposite side of the
field to get a full view. Sees Connor’s body, as well as the
cops and faculty members covering it.
SIDNEY
Oh my God!

RANDY
Believe me now?
TATUM
Is that Steve over there?

Tatum actually shoves by a student in her way, trying to get

a closer look. Steve’s sitting on one of the bleachers with
Casey. Unable to bear the sight of his brother’s body,
Steve’s sobbing uncontrollably as Casey tries her best to
comfort him, with little success.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 66.

TATUM
Wow. Is he actually crying?

SIDNEY
Tatum, that’s his brother. Why
wouldn’t he be?
RANDY
Because Steve’s an asshole?

SIDNEY
You guys!
TATUM
What? It’s true.

The three stand there staring at the scene. In the distance,

Stu rushes out onto the field, headed right towards Steve.
TATUM
What is Stu doing?

RANDY
Umm....
Whatever’s being said isn’t audible, but Stu and Casey are
clearly, visibly doing their best to comfort an inconsolable
Steve. Stu starts pulling his friend away from the football
field towards the school, even shoving a particularly
obnoxious student who taunts Steve out of the way. Casey
trails not far behind.

SIDNEY
You think we should go talk to him?
RANDY
Uh, I’m good. Thanks.

Kind of awkward silence.

RANDY
He can’t bully me for years and
expect me to reach out to him. It
doesn’t work that way.

SIDNEY
You’re right; I’m sorry. I do want
to go talk to him, though. I’ll see
you both later.

RANDY
Sid, you don’t even like him. Why
bother conosling the guy?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 67.

SIDNEY
No one should go through this
alone.
TATUM
I guess. See ya, Sid.
Sidney breaks off from Tatum and Randy, making her way into
the crowd. Tatum seems at least a little miffed.
TATUM
Did my best friend seriously just
bail on me for some asshole jock
she doesn’t even like?
RANDY
Yeah, I think she did.

TATUM
No wonder you hate the guy so much.
RANDY
Yup. No accountability.

INT. ORTH HOUSE - DAY

Ryan’s seated on the couch, watching cartoons on TV and
eating breakfast. Pretty upbeat compared to the other day.
He’s dressed for school and his backpack’s on the couch next
to him; just not quite time for it to start yet. His and
Steve’s dad is nowhere to be seen, clearly out somewhere.
Steve comes in through the front door. Clearly trying to put
on a brave face for his brother, tears wiped away, but the
wounded puppy eyes are a dead-give away.
STEVE
Ryan? Are you still home?

Ryan’s up and on his feet, racing to give a hug to greet his

brother.
RYAN
Steve!

Steve lowers himself; trying to match Ryan’s height. Big hug

back, the tears immediately start streaming down his face
despite Steve’s efforts to control them.
STEVE
I love you so much.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 68.

RYAN
Is everything okay?
Ryan can obviously tell his older brother’s sad; not a sight
he’s used to seeing.

STEVE
No, it’s not. I’m sorry; I
shouldn’t be crying.
RYAN
You’re the one who always says it’s
okay to cry, though.
STEVE
Yeah, it’s okay for you to cry. I’m
the big brother; I’ve got to be the
strong one here.
Steve and Ryan let go of each other; the former starts
walking towards the couch to sit down. Steve’s emotions are
little more under control. Trying to process how to even
break the bad news to his little brother.

STEVE
You can change if you want. You’re
not going to school today.
RYAN
Is it canceled? Did something
happen?
Tears are sinking back in, albeit not as intense as earlier.
STEVE
(Nodding)
Yeah.
RYAN
Why’s it canceled?

STEVE
Something... happened. To Connor.
RYAN
Is he okay?

STEVE
(Shaking his head)
No.
Anxiety and sadness start to cover Ryan’s face too.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 69.

RYAN
What happened?
STEVE
He’s dead. I’m sorry; I’m so sorry.

The tears start streaming down Ryan’s face; Steve wraps his
arms around his little brother. Firmer, more protective, but
still comforting.
STEVE
I’m never going to let anything
happen to you. I promise.

EXT. ORTH HOUSE - DAY

Sidney’s outside the house, walking towards it. A little bit

anxious; she rings the doorbell. No immediate response.
Pulls out her phone as she waits a moment only to be greeted
by Steve, armed with a knife. Clearly still distraught and
drained, but trying to hold his composure together more. Not
looking to show any vulnerability.

STEVE
Sidney, hi. What are you doing
here?
SIDNEY
I just wanted to check on you. If
that’s okay.
Sidney gestures at the knife.
STEVE
Oh, I’m sorry. Just being safe.
(Beat. Yelling)
It’s just a friend, Ryan. It’s
safe. You don’t have to hide.

SIDNEY
Hide?
STEVE
I told him to; just in case. Losing
one brother was hard enough.
(Beat)
Do you want to come in?
SIDNEY
Yeah. Thanks.

Steve opens the door; Sidney steps inside.

70.

INT. ORTH HOUSE - DAY

Steve sets the knife on a nearby table; he’s quick to lock
the door behind Sidney as they make their way to the
couches. Ryan’s sitting on one of them.

STEVE
Hey, Ryan, this is Sidney. She’s a
friend from school.
RYAN
Hi.
SIDNEY
Hello.
(Beat. To Steve)
Is now a bad time?

STEVE
I don’t think there’s going to be a
good one.
(Beat)
Ryan, are you okay if we have a
moment to talk or no?
Ryan nods.
STEVE
Are you sure? You can say no.

RYAN
It’s okay. I’ll just be in my room.
STEVE
I’ll be there in a minute.

Ryan makes his way upstairs; Steve still has his guard up
emotionally, not wanting to let the cracks show.
SIDNEY
Your brother seems nice.
STEVE
He’s a really good kid. Ryan’s the
smart one in the family too,
straight A’s.

SIDNEY
That’s good.
It’s a little awkward.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 71.

STEVE
Why did you stop by, though? It’s
not like we’re actually friends. I
don’t think you even like me.

SIDNEY
I told you; no one should go
through this alone. I thought it’d
be nice to have someone check in.
See if you’re okay.

STEVE
I saw my brother’s dead body less
than an hour ago. You’re smart,
Sidney: what do you think my
answer’s going to be?

Somewhere between sad and lashing out. Steve lays down on

the couch, bad posture. Too depressed and drained to even
sit up properly.
SIDNEY
Look, I know it’s hard, but-

STEVE
Don’t. Just don’t. You know how it
feels to lose someone. You’ve been
through it twice now. Don’t give me
the same bullshit everyone else is.
SIDNEY
I’m just- I’m trying to help.
STEVE
You want to help me? Then help me.
Don’t give me some bullshit advice
about how it gets better and
easier. My brother is dead. That’s
never going to get better.

The energy and emotion are drained from Steve’s face; he’d
probably be crying if there were any tears left to fall.
SIDNEY
Look, I know it’s hard. You’re
right; I have lost people too. My
dad died in that car crash years
ago. Billy got murdered and I saw
his body just like you did. It
hurts. That pain has never gone
away. It still hurts now, but I
deal with it, and I don’t lash out
at the people trying to help me.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 72.

Steve moves, sits up a bit. Almost looks a little relieved.

STEVE
Was that so hard?
SIDNEY
Was what so hard?
STEVE
Telling me the truth. I know it’s
never going to go away. I knew it
the moment I saw Connor’s dead body
hanging from that goal post. It’s
going to burned into my mind until
the day I die.
SIDNEY
I’m sorry. No one-
STEVE
The minute I saw it, all I could
think was how Connor didn’t deserve
to be the one who died. Obnoxious
pranks or not, he was a way better
person than me. And I let Connor go
to that detention, and I let him
die. And I get to live with that
every day for the rest of my life.
If I just made him come home with
me. Or if I stayed in that fucking
school with him. Or did fucking
anything different.
Steve slams his arm onto a nearby table, trying to control
the outpour of anger and emotions, needing something to hit.
SIDNEY
It’s not your fault, Steve.
STEVE
Yes, it is. I didn’t do any of
that. I can’t fix it now. My
brother’s already dead.
SIDNEY
It does get better. You learn to
cope. I promise.
STEVE
It’s not the same; I had one
fucking thing I was good for in
life. Protecting my younger
brothers. That’s it. I did it every

fucking day with my dad. That’s
what my purpose is. And the one
time it truly matters, I fuck up
and my brother’s the one who pays
for it. I should be the one hanging
from that goal post. I know it; you
know it; the whole fucking school
knows it.
SIDNEY
Steve-
STEVE
Don’t. You know as well as I do how
hated I am here. Randy would throw
a party if it was me, and he’d be
right to. I’m just the asshole
jock. That’s all I’m ever going to
be. Only two people would have
missed me if I died, and one just
got gutted.

SIDNEY
That’s not true. What about Stu?
Casey? You have friends.
STEVE
What friends? You can barely
tolerate me. Even Stu and Casey
would agree I’m an asshole. Not to
mention everyone we care about
keeps dying: Billy, Connor. You
know another one of us is next. I’d
give anything to make it stop. I
wish I could trade spots with
Connor and go up on that goal post
instead. Kill me; fine. I don’t
care. I probably deserve it. But
losing my brother.. It’s just-

Steve’s crying again, borderline inconsolable and more or

less having a breakdown in front of Sidney.
STEVE
God I can’t even keep it together.

SIDNEY
It’s okay. This is normal.
STEVE
I told my brothers that all the
time. Cry as much as you need to.

But it’s not the same. I’m the one
that does have to be strong and

I’ve got to be the strong one here.
Sidney’s paused for a moment, trying to think of what to say
to calm Steve down some. Decides to try and shift the focus
to something more positive.

SIDNEY
Ryan’s lucky to have a brother like
you.
Steve’s somewhere between confused and appreciative. The
tears do subside a little, though.

STEVE
Where’d that come from?
SIDNEY
Even just seeing you two now.
Hearing you talk about him.
STEVE
Thanks. Someone had to look out for
him; not like dad was going to.

SIDNEY
Welcome to the crappy parents club.
STEVE
Been here for awhile.
(Beat)
Can I ask you something?
SIDNEY
What?

STEVE
How can I keep Ryan safe?
SIDNEY
What do you mean?

STEVE
First this guy guts my friend,
another jock bully, no less, and
then he butchers my brother. Easy
to see the writing on the wall.

SIDNEY
You think he’s coming for you next?
STEVE
I think it’s safe to say I’m on the
hit list, yeah. Probably deserve it
too. As said, I’m the jock asshole.
SIDNEY
I don’t know what to tell you, I’m
sorry.

STEVE
I can’t guarantee Ryan’s safety if
he’s around me. I’m not stupid.
Lightbulb.

STEVE
Ryan! Can you come down here?
Ryan’s down the stairs quick; heads over to see his brother.

RYAN
Yeah?
STEVE
Hey; do you have a friend you can
sleepover with?

RYAN
I don’t want to sleepover.
STEVE
I know, but I think you need to
tonight. I’m sorry.
RYAN
Why?
STEVE
The person who hurt Connor... I
think he might try hurt you and me
too. I need to know you’re
somewhere safe tonight.

Ryan thinks about it, quietly nods.

STEVE
Okay, you go start packing. I’ll
help you in a moment.

RYAN
Just don’t leave me alone with dad.
Please.
STEVE
Never. I promise. Nothing’s going
to happen to me.
Ryan nods again, goes back upstairs. Steve rechannels his
focus towards Sidney.

STEVE
I should go help him. Thank you,
though, Sid. I can’t say it’s all
better but.. it helped. A lot.
SIDNEY
What are friends for, right?
STEVE
I could use a few more right now.
(Beat)
Thank you, again.

SIDNEY
Anytime.
Warm and genuine smiles from both of them. Neither’s exactly
in a great spot, especially with everything, but obviously
better than before.

INT. CAFE - DAY

Seated at a table sipping coffees are Tatum and Stu are
seated at a table, no drinks, with two empty seats as well.
Stu’s completely relaxed, while a stressed-out Tatum is
checking her phone.
TATUM
Still no texts from Sidney.
STU
Babe, you’re like joined to Sidney
at the hip. Calm down. You’ve sent
a bagizillion texts. I promise you:
she’s safe, and you’ve got me.
Stu wraps his arm around Tatum, she rolls her eyes and
pushes him off.

TATUM
She’s my best friend and has just
been through a trauma. Of course
I’m a little bit concerned about
her.
STU
So am I. Just... chillax a bit.

TATUM
Chillax? Are you kidding me?
STU
What? I’m trying to be funny.
Lighten the mood.

TATUM
What you’re being is stupid.
STU
But that’s why you love me.

TATUM
Is it now?
Tatum grins and turns to look him.

STU
I think it’s part of it.
TATUM
I do find it oddly charming in its
own way.

The couple goes in for a quick kiss.

STU
You are so out of my league.

Tatum kisses her boyfriend again.

TATUM
And don’t you ever forget it.

STU
Couldn’t if I wanted to.
Tatum smiles, clearly happy about what she’s hearing. Randy
zips over to the table, three coffees in hand.

RANDY
(Handing drinks out)
That makes for one, two, three.

(CONTINUED)

STU
Thank you so much, Randy.
TATUM
Same here.

RANDY
No word from Sidney yet?
TATUM
Nope.

STU
Please help me explain to my
girlfriend that Sidney is fine.
RANDY
As I said, final girl plot armor.
Never fails.
TATUM
Wolf Creek.

RANDY
Wasn’t a final girl, was a decoy,
and the final boy had plot armor.
STU
(Half-joking; half-serious)
Enough you two. Please.
TATUM
So with victim #2 down, what do we
have to fear next?

RANDY
Third act main cast bloodbath.
Obviously.
STU
The what?
TATUM
Randy means your party.
STU
What party?
TATUM
The memorial one we’re throwing for
Connor and Billy, duh.

STU
At my house? That I didn’t know
about until right now?
RANDY
Obviously. You’re the only one rich
enough to throw it.
STU
Mom and dad are out so... sure.
More booze, more people, more fun.

TATUM
Exactly. And I’ll be stopping by
early too.
STU
Really now?
TATUM
Yup. I can help you prepare; Dewey
can watch Sid for me.

RANDY
Finally they get a room.
DING. Tatum’s phone chimes; text comes through.
TATUM
Finally! That’s Sid; she asked to
call. I’m gonna go take that.
RANDY
At least you didn’t say be right
back!

Tatum, half-jokingly and half-irritated, flips Randy off as

she hops up out of her seat and heads off to answer. Stu
looks at Randy, grinning.

STU
So, looks like we’re finally
pulling you out of your shell.
RANDY
With the party? You did hear what I
said about a third act main cast
bloodbath, right?
STU
Oh, this again.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 80.

RANDY
Hey, you were saying the same thing
before Connor got gutted. Not my
fault you don’t get how pacing
works.

STU
(Sarcastic)
Yes, this guy’s obviously pacing
his murder spree.

RANDY
If he can find the time to frame
me, yeah. I think he can find the
time to pace it properly.
STU
Frame you?
RANDY
Hello! Not only does this guy
murder my high school bully who’s
dating the girl I like, he then
proceeds to gut the brother of my
other bully. Complete with creepy
horror movie phone calls. I don’t
think it could look much worse.
STU
Randy, I’ve known you for years
now. You wouldn’t hurt a fly, and
who would even want to frame you?
RANDY
Obviously this murderer needs a
patsy. Someone’s got to take the
fall.
STU
And you think that someone’s you?

RANDY
Do you see anyone else being
set-up? It is obviously not Sidney.
The people a psychotic Tatum would
want dead are conspicuously not the
ones being killed. Steve just had
his own brother gutted. Every sign
is pointing right at me. I am the
one and only person with a clearcut
motive for both targets.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 81.

STU
Can’t framing you be the motive in
itself?
RANDY
Yes. Finally the lessons pay off.
STU
Then who do you think it is?
RANDY
Gale. She’s a sociopath who’s just
waiting to strike. Her career’s in
a dumpster, and a horror buff going
on an anti-bullying revenge spree
checks every box she could want.
Violent sensationalism, moral
guardian movie outrage, millenials
and Gen Z being the problem. Bonus
points to harass Sidney because
Sidney and her mom sued her.
STU
Randy, you truly might be the most
extra person alive, but I’m not
letting you pass up a party of mine
again. I’m the extroverted and fun
friend; it’s my job to bring the
introvert out of his shell some.
You have got to get out more!
RANDY
Yeah, well, your best friend Steve
does go to a lot of parties, and I
try to minimize the run-ins.
STU
Love the guy, but Steve can be a
douche.

RANDY
Just like Spike from Buffy. Never
warmed to him; I was always Team
Xander.
STU
Never saw.
(Beat)
Now come on. Head out and have fun.
It’ll do you good.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 82.

RANDY
More fun than watching yet another
horror movie anyways.
Stu’s beaming, determined to try and force Randy out of his
more introverted shell and excited to be making progress.
STU
How was the one you watched last
night? Leatheface 3D Chainsaw or
whatever?

RANDY
Texas Chainsaw 3D.
STU
Yeah, that one. Any hot chicks?

RANDY
You and your one-track mind.
STU
Not true. Tits are nice too. And
sometimes abs.
Laughter from Randy. Goofy, on point grin from Stu.
RANDY
Well, it sucked. But be at peace,
Stu, two hot girls in the cast.
STU
Fuck yeah!
RANDY
Guys might as well be models too.
STU
Eyecandy’s always appreciated, but
more of a ladies’ man anyways.

RANDY
Do not let Tatum hear you crack
that one. She’ll flip.
STU
What sucked about the movie,
though?
RANDY
Everything? The timeline’s a mess,
Leatherface is now an anti-hero,

ensemble. Pretty much followed all
the rules to a T too.
STU
The rules?
RANDY
Yeah, horror movie rules.
Stu gives Randy a blank stare, genuinely puzzled.

RANDY
You don’t know the rules?
STU
Like the black guy dies first?
Slashers and their racism problem?
RANDY
Eh, more a preponderance of white
survivors. Minorities usually die
mid-movie somewhere.

STU
Still sounds like a racism problem.
But fine, what are the actual rules
then?

Randy’s grinning, eager and excited know-it-all-mode.

RANDY
Well, I’m sure you know about the
final girl.

STU
Oh yeah, the virgin, right?
RANDY
Virgin? Not so much anymore.
Sorority Row, You’re Next, Town
that Dreaded Sundown remake.. final
girls don’t have to be outright
virgins. Just more on the chaste
side. No sleeping around, committed
relationships, no nude scenes.

STU
So what does make up your standard
horror lead?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 84.

RANDY
Well, for a start, she’s a girl.
Guys are getting more common, but
they’re not there yet. She’s almost
always white. She’s good
intentioned and moral, not bitchy.
Pretty but not too sexy. Sometimes
she wants to go onto bigger and
better things. She’s basically
Bella Swan without the necrophilia.

STU
(Laughing)
God.. it’s I’m back in school, and
I still didn’t do any of the
homework.

RANDY
I want to be a horror critic one
day. Gotta see them all, right?
STU
So how’s a guy like me fair?

RANDY
Dead in the third act main cast
bloodbath, no doubt. You drink,
you’re goofy, sexually active and
horny. People might be sad to see
you go, but everyone would know
you’re the guy who has it coming.
This, of course, is on top of being
a guy, which gives you worse odds,
and there’s always Bury Your Gays.
Or bisexuals, in your case.
STU
So, based on the rules, which of us
are making it then?

RANDY
Well, as I said, you’re a dead man
walking. Your buddy Steve is too
unless he gets that last act
redemption arc.... and even then,
could just be redemption equals
death. Dewey won’t fair much
better; cop and all. Gale’s an
irredeemable hatesink; unless she’s
a killer who’s sticking around for
the sequel, she’s donezo too.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 85.

STU
So basically everyone dies.
RANDY
Well..... Sidney’s the final girl.
She’s a lock to live. Redherring
nerds like me are a crapshoot, but
hopefully my virginal love interest
status helps. Tatum and Casey are
crapshoots as well; every once and
awhile female colead makes it out
as well: Sorority Row, Silent
Night, I Still Know. If I had to
pick, I’d put my money on Casey:
more easygoing, and Tatum is the
best-friend. Not the safest
archetype ever.

STU
Wow.. You really broke us down to
archetypes in a minute.
RANDY
We see the world through the lens
of what we love. I love horror
movies, so I see stuff in relation
to them.
STU
Does it really just come down to
you’re the wrong archetype: bye?
RANDY
Pretty much. Though some rules are
common sense and still usually
pretty good to follow.
STU
Such as?

RANDY
Don’t loudly announce to your
friends things aren’t funny. Just
get to safety. Don’t look back when
running away. Be aware of your
surroundings. Having a working
cellphone with good service helps
too. Horror characters might as
well have AT&T’s coverage; can’t
get a signal in their own home let
alone the middle of nowhere.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 86.

STU
That seems like a lot of effort to
remember. Think I’ll stick to
booze, bisexuality, and sex.
RANDY
Haaa, dead man walking. Been nice
knowing you, Stu Macher.

STU
You never know. Your horror formula
could get switched up a little her.
RANDY
No way to tell for sure. Always fun
when it does, though.
Tatum makes her way back to the table, big smile on her face
as she approaches the guys and takes her.
TATUM
Okay, Sidney’s bailing on lunch,
but she’s in for the party.
STU
You sure you don’t want to
reconsider going now that your one
true love Sidney’s gonna be there?
Randy’s thinking. Gears spinning.
RANDY
Ohhh... fine. You think she’d go
out with me now that she’s single?
STU
Given her boyfriend just got
murdered? No. Obviously not. I
doubt Sidney’s going to date anyone
anytime soon, but you can still
just be a friend to her.
RANDY
Maybe I’ll break that friendzone
one day.
STU
That’s the spirit. You’re gonna
love the party, dude.

RANDY
I do have to go, though; short
shift at Hot Topic before the
party.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 87.

TATUM
Yeah, I’m only back briefly too. I
need to go tell Dewey we’re on for
the party tonight. Hopefully he
won’t come. I’d like a night to
just relax.
STU
Alright, see you guys. I’ll go pass
around party invites.
Stu sips his coffee as he sees Tatum and Randy head out.
Glances over and sees Casey sitting by the bar. Beelines
right to her.

STU
Hey, blondie!
Stu makes his way over towards the trio, typical big goofy
grin covering his face.

CASEY
Me?
STU
No, the barista.

Stu glances over at the barista for a second.

STU
Actually, he is pretty hot. Maybe I
should blow you off for him.

CASEY
(Giggling)
Hey, Stu. What’s up?
STU
Impromptu party tonight, my house.
You coming?
Casey fakes a laugh.
CASEY
Are you kidding me? No thanks, I’d
rather not get mauled by your
girlfriend.
STU
Come on; I’ll keep Tatum away from
you. It’s a memorial party for
Connor and Billy. Pay some
respects, remember the guys with
friends, try and keep spirits up.

CASEY
I really think I’m good.
STU
Your boyfriend’s gonna be there.

CASEY
He agreed to come?
STU
Not exactly. But he already texted
me about spending the night. So..
kinda has to. I was going to fill
him in later.
(Beat)
Come on, Casey, a little stress
relief will do you good.

CASEY
Fine. I’ll go. But, seriously, keep
me and Tatum separate.
STU
One hundred percent can do. You
won’t regret it, I swear! It’s
gonna blow your fucking mind!
CASEY
See you there, Stu.

Stu grins and waves before walking away Casey, making his
way out of the cafe.

EXT. CAFE - DAY

Gale Weathers is standing outside her van, applying some
last minute makeup using her sideview mirror. Look of
determination in her. Kenny, camera-free, is waiting off to
the side.

KENNY
So, what’s your plan?
GALE
Talk to Dewey, obviously. See if I
can get anything else from him.
(Beat)
How’s my makeup?
KENNY
Uh, fine?

GALE
(Eyeroll)
Men. It needs to be perfect. You
did say he had a crush on me.

Gale glances over at Dewey; glances back at the mirror.

GALE
Looks good to me.
KENNY
You really think he’s going to fall
for this?
GALE
Watch and learn.

Gale, finished with her make up, zips past Kenny and towards
Dewey. Big, bright, warm, fake-as-fuck smile covering her
face as she approaches him. Kenny watches from a distance.
Dewey’s quick to shift from his default face to a goofy
smile and play into the wide-eyed crush.

GALE
So I hear someone’s a big fan.
DEWEY
Gale Weathers?

GALE
In the flesh.
Gale’s beaming, projecting confidence. Dewey’s playing
starstruck and dazed.

GALE
I have to admit; I wasn’t expecting
my fanboy on the force to be quite
so cute.

DEWEY
You really think I’m cute?
GALE
Absolutely. Except in that upper
torso area, of course. Does the
force require you to work out?
DEWEY
No. I just try to be in shape. Can
I help you?

GALE
I was thinking we could help each
other. Cop and reporter teaming up
to catch a killer.

Dewey’s nodding, playing along and seemingly entranced by

Gale’s pitch.
GALE
What do you think? Want to take
this guy down together?

DEWEY
Yeah.
GALE
So, what do you have for us to work
with?
Dewey’s about to speak, but pauses. Playing it off as ditzy
and goofy.
DEWEY
Wait, how do I know you’re not the
killer?
GALE
Well, I can’t investigate myself.

DEWEY
Isn’t that what a killer would say?
Gale’s miffed, but playing along.
GALE
Oh, you’re a sharp one. How can I
prove to you I’m not the killer?
DEWEY
Well, they tell us on the force
that the first thing we should look
for is an alibi.
GALE
Well, I was at home asleep when the
first kid died. What was his name
again? Will?
DEWEY
I’m sorry Miss Weathers; I don’t
think that’s an alibi.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 91.

GALE
Well, when did the second one die?
DEWEY
Sometime yesterday? Sheriff Burke
doesn’t trust me with a lot of
info; says loose lips sink ships.
GALE
That’s why you only tell people you
can trust, like me.

Dewey pauses for a second; thinking of how to proceed. Plays

it off like he’s trying to think of the time.
DEWEY
Damn. I wish I knew to tell you. I
can’t remember.
GALE
If it helps, I spent most the day
doing interviews with Kenny before
dropping the footage off and
heading home to bed.
DEWEY
Hmmm.
GALE
I think that’s enough of an alibi.
So, what leads do you have?
DEWEY
I don’t do the investigating; I
just watch over Sidney.

GALE
Like her bodyguard?
DEWEY
You could say that.

GALE
Would you maybe like some company
tonight?

Gale’s playing it flirty, trying to lock the date down.

DEWEY
No can do. Gotta stay focused.
Unless....

GALE
Unless?
DEWEY
Unless you’ve got a lead for us to
go investigate together.

GALE
I don’t, I was hoping you would. My
sources are all dead ends.

Dewey can tell Gale doesn’t have any information for him; no
need to play dumb or play along any more.
DEWEY
Afraid not. It’s been a pleasure,
Gale.

GALE
Wait, what about that date?
DEWEY
You just missed me.

GALE
Excuse me?
DEWEY
I read you’re most popular with
males aged 19-24; I just turned 25.
(Beat)
Next time you try and play someone,
maybe make sure you’re not getting
played in the process. Have a good
day, Gale.

Dewey checks his messages quick, specifically Sid and Tatum.

Nothing notable. Gale’s standing there speechless; a little
confused by what just happened.

Tatum’s making her way out of the cafe and over towards
Dewey, Gale still standing there.
TATUM
Hey, Dewey! Change of plans for
tonight-

DEWEY
One second.

I’m afraid I need you to go now.

GALE
Excuse me?
DEWEY
Bodyguard duty. Confidential info.
You can’t know where Sidney and
Tatum are going. I need you to go.
GALE
I thought we were catching this guy
together?

DEWEY
Well, if you have a lead for us,
we’ll see. But as of now, nope.
Gale, frustrated and exasperated to be hit with yet another
dead-end, zips right back to her car. She’s got her phone
out, texting someone in the process.
DEWEY
Alright Tatum; what’s the new plan?

TATUM
Sid and I are partying at Stu’s
tonight. I’m stopping by there
early; I’d assume that you’re
dropping her off.

DEWEY
Tatum-
TATUM
Don’t Tatum me. I’m going. And
Sidney is too; it’ll be good for
her. Give her time to breathe.
DEWEY
Fine. One condition; I’m waiting
there just in case.

TATUM
Dewey, come on. It’s a party with
friends. It will be fine.
DEWEY
No exceptions. We’ve got a serial
killer on the loose. I can’t just
leave Sidney alone tonight-
TATUM
You’re not with her now.

DEWEY
She was at Steve’s house which is
not far from town and said she’d
meet me here soon. I have been in
contact with her.

TATUM
Dewey-
DEWEY
And even if I wasn’t worried about
Sidney, I’m not leaving my little
sister defenseless with a killer on
the loose.
TATUM
Fine, but you are not following me
to Stu’s early.
DEWEY
Just be responsible.
TATUM
Aren’t I always?
DEWEY
You want a ride over?
TATUM
I’m good; gonna do some quick
shopping. Stu’s driving us back.
DEWEY
Mom says to watch the credit card
bill-
TATUM
Yeah, it’s a big number. What else
is there to see?

Tatum waves Dewey off as she makes her way back towards some
of the local stores, leaving him by his patrol car.

INT. NEWS VAN - DAY

I couldn’t find my phone.
GALE
And you think it’s stashed away in
the glove compartment?

KENNY
You know I leave it everywhere. You
remember the time I almost lost the
camera-
GALE
Okay, okay. Whatever.
Gale glances over, sees it on the driver’s seat.
GALE
It’s on the driver’s seat.

KENNY
Thanks.
Gale, frustrated and stressed to the max, sits down in the
van. Hands on her head and pushing through her hair as she
tries to process what to do.
KENNY
Talk with Dewey didn’t go well?

GALE
Obviously not. Fuck. I have nothing
here. No leads. No anything.
KENNY
So what do we do?

GALE
Well, we’re not calling it quits.

the phone on speaker.

from a tree; does that answer your
question?

Gale and Kenny’s eyes go wide; both terrified, but the

former’s a little excited too. It’s her big break.
GALE
(Mouthing to Kenny)
It’s him!
Kenny’s silently nodding in return.
VOICE
I’ll take your silence as a yes.

GALE
So what is it you’re confessing to?
Has there been another victim since
Connor?

VOICE
Not yet.
GALE
Are you taking your identity
public?

VOICE
No. I’m not confessing who I am.
I’m confessing what I’ve done and,
more importantly, what I’m going to
do.
Gale’s a little more concerned.
GALE
And what are you going to do?

(CONTINUED)

VOICE
261 Turner Lane. If you want your
story, I’d be there to see it play
out.
Line goes silent. Gale’s still processing it; Kenny’s got
his phone out, dialing 911. Gale rips it out of his hands
before he can.

GALE
Don’t you fucking dare.
KENNY
This guy just tipped us off for
where he’s going next? We’ve got to
tell the cops.
GALE
Kenny, just think for a second.
This is it. Our big break.

KENNY
You can’t be serious; walk into a
trap and let these kids die?
GALE
Why not? If we give this to the
cops, we lose our story and our
free tickets to nation-wide
journalism and Hollywood
goodbye. We’re not getting it
back.

KENNY
And if we don’t, we might die.
GALE
Hey; we’re in a news van. If
anything gets sketch, we dial 911
and get the fuck out. Easy.
KENNY
And put everyone’s lives at risk?

GALE
Hey; we’re gonna be the heroes that
take this guy down, okay? Fame,
fortune, and no more deaths.
KENNY
I can’t do it.
Kenny goes to grab his phone back.

(CONTINUED)

GALE
If you touch that phone, I promise
you will never work in this town
again.

KENNY
Gale-
GALE
You are not taking my big break
from me. Unless you’ve got a whole
new career lined up and ready to go
right now, we’re doing it my way.
Kenny sighs; no choice but to go along with Gale’s plan.
GALE
Good.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - STU’S BEDROOM - DAY

Stu and Tatum are busy making out on his bed. Hot and heavy.
Stu’s shirt is already off; Tatum’s still clothed, but her
boyfriend’s trying to heat things up a bit. So much for
pre-party planning and prep. The Friday the 13th remake is
playing in the background, neither one’s bothering to pay
much attention to it at this point.

Stu goes for Tatum’s shirt, starting to pull it off, she

playfully, but firmly, pushes him off.
TATUM
Behave.

STU
I would, but you’re so damn
perfect.
Big smile on Tatum’s face, loving the compliment, but not
interested in letting Stu get past first base. He can sense
his girlfriend’s suddenly less into it.
STU
Everything okay?

TATUM
Yeah, just not feeling it any more.
Instant ice. She’s miffed. Hands are off each other now.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 99.

STU
(Jokingly)
You’re blue-balling me bad here.
Thud. Tatum is not feeling the joke. Daggers-for-eyes from
her, the norm when Tatum’s annoyed. Stu picks up quick.
STU
I’m sorry. What happened?
TATUM
I started thinking of Casey and got
kinda pissed.
Stu sighs, more frustrated with himself than anything.
STU
Tatum, I am sorry.
TATUM
I know.
STU
I just wish I knew how to fix it. I
know it takes time. It’s why I told
you the next day.
TATUM
Why’d you even do it?

STU
I thought you didn’t want details.
TATUM
Well, I changed my mind.
STU
It was a party, we were wasted, and
we were horny idiots. Not a lot of
thought went into it.

TATUM
What? Not secretly into her?
STU
Babe, I’ve got eyes for exactly one
girl, and it’s not Casey.
TATUM
(Grinning)
And who would that be?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 100.

STU
(Gesturing at the TV)
Julianna Guill, obviously.

Tatum’s somewhere between laughing and pissed she didn’t get

her compliment. Stu’s back to his trademark goofy smile.
TATUM
Enjoy the cold shower.

STU
Of course it’s you, Tatum. I’m
crazy about you.
TATUM
I’d love to hear why.
STU
Fishing for compliments?
TATUM
As the queen who deserves them.
STU
You’re smart. You’re sassy. You
speak your mind. You’re fucking hot
as hell. How am I doing so far?

Tatum starts leaning back into her boyfriend’s arms, loving

the compliments. He’s kissing her neck.
TATUM
You might make it past first base.

STU
Your fashion is to die for.
TATUM
Okay, now you’re sucking up.
STU
You’re funny and snarky.
Unpredictable. Exciting.

TATUM
That’s more like it.
STU
And the sex is pretty awesome.

Tatum’s back into it again, clearly more than happy to be

showered with compliments, and happy to pick up where she
left off. Tatum pops off the bed, starts to kneel down in
front of Stu.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 101.

TATUM
How about we go straight from first
base to third base?
STU
Fuuuuck yes. Screw Randy’s stupid
slasher rules.
TATUM
Feeling death by sex huh?

STU
I’m a dead man walking.
Laughter from both of them. Tatum’s got Stu’s pants
unzipped, quick to go down on him. Stu’s running his fingers
through her hair, moaning.

EXT. MACHER HOUSE - NIGHTS

On the top of a hill overlooking a field and a forest; the
Macher House is even more isolated than Sidney’s. Cars are
haphazardly parked all over. A couple drunk party goes are
lingering outside, but most of them are inside. Music’s
blaring from the house, lights on all inside.
Dewey’s cop car pulls up; he drops Sidney off near the
entrance.

DEWEY
I’ll be out front. Might stop in
later. Get me if you need anything.
SIDNEY
No problem. Thank you, Dewey.
DEWEY
And make sure Tatum knows she’s
coming back with us!

SIDNEY
Will do.
Sidney makes her way towards the party. A little bit
anxious, but happy to be around her friends.

As Sidney makes her way inside, Gale’s newsvan makes its way
up to the house. Impossible to miss, and immediately drawing
Dewey’s attention. Dewey’s out of the car and heading
towards the newsvan. He knocks on the door; Gale opens it.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 102.

DEWEY
What are you doing here, Gale?
GALE
Getting my story, obviously.

DEWEY
At a teen party?
GALE
You’re here, so Sidney must be. And
if Sidney’s here, my story’s here.
DEWEY
How did you even know to come here?
GALE
I got a tip, okay?
DEWEY
From who?
GALE
I’m a reporter; I don’t have to
disclose my sources to you.
Icy stares all around; no one’s budging.
DEWEY
Be that as it may, I really think
you should go. No need for a
reporter at a party.
GALE
I’ll consider the advice. Bye
Dewey.
Door slammed shut, right in his face.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - FRONT HALLWAY - NIGHT

Sidney makes her way into the front hall; part in full
swing. Music is deafeningly loud, dancing, and plenty of
alcohol to go around. Sidney’s a little awkward, clearly not
expecting quite this many people at a memorial party. She
makes her way through the crowd, eventually stumbling onto
Tatum and Stu grinding against each other.
SIDNEY
Tatum!

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 103.

TATUM
Sidney! Hi!
SIDNEY
I thought you said this was going
to be a small party, Tatum?

STU
What’s the fun in that?
TATUM
Come on Sid; it’s not that many
people. Just a few friends.
A random, anonymous partier pushes past Tatum, shoving her
out of the way.

PARTIER
Get out of my way.
TATUM
Excuse you.

If looks could kill.

SIDNEY
Okay, then who was that?
STU
A person.
TATUM
Okay, it might be a little bit more
than a few friends.

SIDNEY
You know, I’m not sure I’m feeling
something quite... this.
STU
Go grab yourself a drink and relax,
Sid. Open-bar. We’ll join you in a
minute.
SIDNEY
I may just call it an early-

RANDY
Sidney! Hey!
Randy emerges from the kitchen, drink in hand, excited to
see Sidney among the crowd.

(CONTINUED)

STU
Finally! Randy grabs a drink!
Hallelujah!

SIDNEY
Randy, hi! How are you?
RANDY
A lot better now.
(Beat)
You want a drink? I can go get
another.
Obvious no-go, but Sidney still plays it off, avoiding
making any kind of a scene.

SIDNEY
I’m okay. I wouldn’t want to do
that to you; I’ll get my own later.
RANDY
You sure?
SIDNEY
Yeah. I’m sure.
Red-and-blue flashing polices lights start flashing through
the window. Tatum’s royally pissed, Stu’s panicked
STU
Fuck. My mom and dad are going to
be so mad.

Tatum storms her way through the crowd, boyfriend following

behind in tow.
TATUM
Move. I’m coming through.

EXT. MACHER HOUSE - NIGHT

TATUM
DOOFUS!

Dewey’s a little surprised by the angry greeting. Clearly

not what he expected. Stu’s standing behind Tatum, a little
anxious of a cop, especially his girlfriend’s older brother,
causing problems for him.

STU
I swear everyone brought their own
booze. You have no proof I provided
it at all.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 105.

TATUM
What is with the police lights?
DEWEY
Just getting your attention. Wanted
to say hi to my sister.

TATUM
Did you seriously just troll me?
A goofy smile covers Dewey’s face, he’s laughing a bit.

DEWEY
Maybe a little bit. Payback for
calling me "Doofus" all the time.
TATUM
Hi Dewey. Bye Dewey.
DEWEY
Before you go, I do want you to
know you’re coming back with us.

TATUM
Yeah; that’s fine. I figured as
much. Just stay in the car and
don’t screw anything up.
DEWEY
Afraid I’m going to bust your
party?
STU
I’d like to remind everyone that
this is a memorial party. For
coping purposes.
DEWEY
Stu, your party’s fine. Just.. use
good judgment.

STU
Asking waaaay too much of me there.
Tatum glances over, catches site of Gale’s newsvan.

TATUM
Hey big bro, wanna do me a favor?
DEWEY
Kick her out?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 106.

TATUM
You know it. She will fuck up Sid’s
night for us.
DEWEY
Trust me, already on it.
TATUM
Thank you.
A frustrated Tatum makes her way back inside; Stu not far
behind her.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT

Sidney and Randy are standing by the bar, the former pouring
herself quick, easy drink.
SIDNEY
I never see you out at parties.
How’d Stu talk you into it?

RANDY
He said it’d be good for me to get
out more.
SIDNEY
Sounds like Stu. You just said
screw it?
RANDY
Pretty much. It’s kind of fun; I
think I need to do that more.

SIDNEY
Doesn’t that involve breaking all
your beloved horror movie rules?
RANDY
No comment.
Some mutual laughter, Randy goes for another sip of his
drink.
RANDY
This tastes awful by the way.
SIDNEY
Well, I don’t think most people
drink straight vodka. You’re meant
to mix it.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 107.

RANDY
Huh?

SIDNEY
Here.
Sidney grabs Randy’s drink; eyes some of the sodas on the
counter.

SIDNEY
Got a preference?
Randy points at a Sprite, Sidney mixes a little in and gives
the glass back to Randy.

RANDY
Going for bartender now?
SIDNEY
Only for my friends.

Randy takes a sip.

RANDY
It still sucks.
SIDNEY
I know, but at least it correctly
sucks now.
RANDY
Is there anything better?

SIDNEY
You can try the beer.
RANDY
I did already; it was worse.

Chill vibe; everyone’s having a nice time. Randy’s got a

boost of drunken confidence, not thinking things through
quite as much.
RANDY
Do you ever have a "fuck it"
moment?
SIDNEY
A what?

RANDY
Like where you just decide to do
something stupid?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 108.

SIDNEY
What do you mean?
Moment of hesitation from Randy, then fuck it.
RANDY
Do I stand a chance or no?
AWKWARD. Sidney’s silent, trying to think of what to say.
It’s not a long pause, but the sugarcoated "No" is obviously
coming soon. Randy can tell; anxieties just shot sky-high.

RANDY
And that’s why I don’t drink.
SIDNEY
Randy, I-

RANDY
No, I shouldn’t have asked. I
fucked the moment up.
Sid’s just trying to brush it off and move on, not wanting
to let the awkwardness derail everything.
SIDNEY
It’s fine; we can turn the night
around.

Still awkward and tense. Neither one’s quite sure how to fix
it at this moment.
RANDY
I’m just gonna go. I need space.
I’m a little anxious. Or a lot
anxious.
Sidney, desperate for the moment to be over, stays quiet as
Randy races out. They can patch it up later. Tatum and Stu
make their way into the kitchen.

STU
Hey; is Randy okay?
SIDNEY
He... just sort of asked me out.

TATUM
I take it he didn’t take the no
very well?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 109.

STU
Fuck, I did try to warn him.
SIDNEY
I think he just wants space. And I
really just wanted that moment to
be over.
STU
I’ll have a bro talk with Randy
later about it. He’ll be okay.

TATUM
Had to happen sooner or later, Sid.
SIDNEY
Do you have anything stronger than
vodka?
STU
Not that I can share at a party.
SIDNEY
More vodka it is.
Sidney pours herself another drink, trying to bounce back.
TATUM
Speaking of, I need another beer.
Especially with Gale here.
STU
One’s coming right-
Stu’s at the fridge... and it’s empty.

TATUM
Well?
STU
Yeah, we’re out of beer.

TATUM
Then go get more.
STU
Babe, there’s no beer in the
fridge. We have mixed drinks. You
want vodka?
TATUM
No. I said that I want a beer.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 110.

STU
Backdoor’s over there; there’s more
in the garage.
TATUM
Okay, go get it.
Sidney’s an exceptionally awkward third-wheel at this point.
Stu chuckles, irritated with his girlfriend’s outright
order, but tries to play it off as no big. Tatum, still
annoyed from earlier, is not in the mood.

TATUM
I’m serious. Go get me a beer.
Stu’s paused, debating if it’s worth the inevitable argument
if he refuses.

STU
(Smiling)
Only if you say please.
TATUM
Would you please get me a beer?
STU
See? Not so hard. I will be right
back before some psycho gets me.

Stu, laughing and trying to lighten stuff up a bit, walks

backwards towards the garage.
TATUM
Well, having a boyfriend was nice
while he lasted. Up for some blind
dating after tonight?
Sidney laughs.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - GARAGE - NIGHT

Empty and isolated. Stu makes his way into the garage,
headed straight for the fridge on the other side, careful to
walk around the cars and avoid bumping them. The door closes
behind him; thud. Stu jumps and looks back.

STU
Fuck. Why did I split off again?
Deep breath. Release anxiety.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 111.

STU
Stu, you are such a dumbass.
Focus is back to his girlfriend’s coveted beer. Starts
pulling a couple sixpacks, closes the fridge, and heads back
to the door. Locked tight. He pounds on it.

STU
Very funny assholes. Open up.
No reply.

STU
Seriously. Open the fucking door.
No reply. Stu sighs, genuinely frustrated. Hits the garage
door button and starts making his way out. Takes a quick
glance around the room first; looking to see if anyone is
hidden away.
Coast seems clear. Stu heads out the garage door. He hears
some kind of sound from behind him, something being bumped
into; Stu starts speedwalking out of the garage.

INT. NEWS VAN - NIGHT

Kenny’s relaxing inside, snacking on Cheetos. The van itself
is otherwise immaculate, neat, and organized. Looks like
Gale might have some lowkey OCD. Gale’s digging through,
pulling out a small, portable camera.
GALE
Why can I only find one of these?
Where are the others that we can
project straight to the van?
KENNY
This is all we have it.
Gale’s pissed. Royally.

GALE
What do you mean this is all we
have? I wanted multiple of these.

KENNY
All I could get was one.
GALE
I swear to God, if I miss my story
due to this, you are so fired.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 112.

Gale grabs the camera, starts to head back towards the

house.

GALE
Now I’m going to salvage this
tragic situation. Do not fuck up
anything else. In fact, don’t even
touch something besides your
cheetos.

Gale slides the door shut. She’s gone. Kenny waits a moment
before making his way out to talk to Dewey.

EXT. MACHER HOUSE - NIGHT

Stu’s circling around the house, sixpacks in hand. Visibly

frustrated. Dewey’s still relaxing by the cop car; keeping
an eye out for trouble.
DEWEY
Everything okay?
STU
Oh yeah; got locked out of my own
party by dumbasses while I got them
beer. I’m thrilled.

DEWEY
(Teasing)
I thought they brought their own
booze?

STU
Which of course means I have to
bring mine, right? 18’s not that
far from 21.
(Beat)
Anyways, Dewey, since you’re doing
the whole bodyguard cop thing, I
thought I heard someone in the
garage.
DEWEY
Think it’s the killer?
STU
Haven’t seen a sign of him all
night. Just felt sketch to me. Your
call if you want to check.

Stu makes his way back into the house, still a bit miffed.
Dewey’s pondering what he should do; he notices Kenny
getting out of the van and approaching him.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 113.

DEWEY
I’ll get on that in a second.

STU
You do you.
Stu makes his way in through the front door while Kenny
makes his way over to Dewey.

DEWEY
I don’t have too long; got to go
check the garage. Stu said he saw
something. You find anything on
Gale yet?

KENNY
No go. I don’t think it’s her
anymore.
DEWEY
Wait; why not?

KENNY
The killer called her.
DEWEY
You’re sure?

KENNY
Yeah, I was there the whole time. I
heard everything. Gale can’t be in
two places at once.

DEWEY
Or she has a partner trying to
throw you off her trail. Any idea
who it was on the other line?

KENNY
Male, but the voice sounded weird.
Almost like...
DEWEY
Distorted?

KENNY
Yeah; how’d you know?
DEWEY
It was the same when I got a call.
I’m thinking a voice disguiser;
makes it useless without a
recording for forensics to analyze.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 114.

KENNY
Damn. Do we have anything at this
point?

DEWEY
Depends; what he say? Any hints?
KENNY
He invited us out here.

It all clicks in Dewey’s head. Shit.

DEWEY
Wait, Gale’s anonymous tip was the
killer?

KENNY
Yeah; she told me she warned you
about that.
DEWEY
She definitely didn’t. Fuck! I need
to radio this in now; you get
somewhere safe.
KENNY
I’ll go in the van; lock the doors.

Dewey nods with approval; Kenny immediately takes off for

the van while Dewey goes straight to the back of the house.

EXT. MACHER HOUSE - GARAGE - NIGHT

Dewey makes his way towards the garage at the back of the
house. Police taser out, just to be safe. He’s calling in on
his radio.

DEWEY
Sheriff Burke, are you there?
Nothing.
DEWEY
Sheriff?
Still nothing; Burke’s clearly not available right now.
DEWEY
Anyone here?

No response. Dead silence. The garage door’s still wide

open. Lights off. Dewey takes a quick glance inside, doesn’t
see anything.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 115.

DEWEY
Hello?

INT. MACHER HOUSE - GARAGE - NIGHT

Dewey steps inside the garage, still armed with his taser.
No response. No sign of anyone, really. Dewey makes his way
to the door between the garage and the house, opens it. Not
locked. Dewey’s a little annoyed.
DEWEY
Nice prank, Stu Macher. Idiot.
Dewey sighs, turns to head out when his police radio goes
off, Sheriff Burke is on the other end. Dewey pauses for a
moment to speak to him.
SHERIFF BURKE (V.O.)
Dewey, are you there?

DEWEY
Yes, sheriff. At Stu Macher’s
house. You need to get more cops
here fast.
SHERIFF BURKE (V.O.)
Did something happen?
DEWEY
I just learned the killer called
Gale; told her to come here. Stu
said he heard something in the
garage, but I don’t see anything. I
think we have a real problem.
SHERIFF BURKE (V.O.)
Dewey, we’ve traced the calls.
They’re coming from Stu Macher’s
cellphone.
DEWEY
Fuck. Okay, I’m just going pull
Sidney and Tatum out of here now.

SHERIFF BURKE (V.O.)

Good plan. Back-ups on the way now.
DEWEY
Got it.

Dewey starts to head out the garage door. It starts to close

as he approaches it, cutting him off; he turns back around
to look and see who did it. No one there.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 116.

DEWEY
I am an officer, and I am armed.
Not the person to be pranking or
messing with.

Silence. Dewey slowly makes his way through the darkened

garage, carefully peering around the cars. Ready to fire his
taser if needed.
DEWEY
Identify yourself now.

No reply. Dewey’s starting to feel uneasy, internally

debating if it’s the killer or a dumb prankster. As Dewey
starts to make his way past a car, Ghostface rises up behind
him. Slowly, steadily, holding a shovel, readying himself
for a hit.

As Ghostface is ready to swing, Dewey catches a glimpse of

his attacker in the side-mirror of a car. He ducks as
Ghostface swings, striking windshield and shattering it.
Dewey quickly turns and fires the taser, but Ghostface has
already ducked out of sight. A miss. Rather than attempt to
recharge, Dewey puts it away and switches it for his actual
gun.
Uneasy, Dewey makes his way towards the door between the
garage and the house, struggling to see Ghostface in the
darkened garage, and knowing there’s nowhere else for him to
go if Dewey gets there first. Dewey makes his way to the
door. Locked.
Suddenly, a knife is jammed into Dewey’s back, hitting his
spine, as Ghostface shoves him face first into the house
door. Dewey spits up blood onto and collapses to the ground.
He turns to face his assailant and fire his gun, but, before
he can, Ghostface smashes a shovel down on his head. Dewey’s
body goes momentarily limp; he drops the gun. Ghostface
raises the shovel and brings it down again. Once more.
Leaving his head a bloodied, bashed in mess. Ghostface
kneels down and grabs the gun before reopening the door,
moving back inside.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Gale’s slowly navigating her way through the house and

crowd, looking for an optimal spot for her camera. She
eventually settles on placing it above the PS5, all set to
record. As she pulls away from it, she bumps right into a
less-than-thrilled Stu Macher.

STU
(Mockingly)
Did I invite you?
GALE
Wouldn’t be here without one.
STU
Oh yeah, that’s not sketch.
GALE
Anonymous tip’s as good as an
invite in my books. Network seemed
fine with it.
STU
Anonymous?

GALE
I don’t divulge my sources.
STU
Such a relief; now I can use your
tip hotline again.
GALE
Only if you know a secret worth
sharing.

STU
Well....
Quick eyebrow raise from Stu, flashes one of his trademark
smiles at Gale.

STU
Nope; dumb as a box of rocks.
Sorry.
Gale rolls her eyes.

STU
Seriously, though. You gotta leave;
Sid and Tatum will flip if they see
you in here.

GALE
Then it’s a good thing I was just
leaving. Hope Dewey doesn’t cause
you too much trouble without me to
hassle.

STU
Trouble?

GALE
You know; underage drinking.
STU
Pfft, I spoke to him already; it’s
been dealt with.

GALE
That’s good, then. Enjoy the party.
STU
You know it.

Gale turns to head on out; Stu makes his way towards the
kitchen and out of the crowd.
Steve’s lounging on the sofa, already through one beer
bottle and chugging down another. Casey’s beside him, pacing
her alcohol a little more carefully. More relaxed.
Steve glances up at the "FOR BILLY AND CONNOR" memorial
banner. Somewhere between mad and amused, like he can’t
quite decide how to feel about it.

STEVE
Tasteful memorial.
CASEY
I am sorry.

STEVE
Not your fault.
CASEY
It’s not yours either.

STEVE
Yeah, it is.
Casey sighs. No use getting through to Steve when he’s like
this; too stubborn. She glances over and sees Sidney
standing in the crowd.
CASEY
I need to go talk to Sidney.
STEVE
Go for it. I’ll be here.
Steve goes for another sip of beer; Casey makes her way
towards Sidney.

SIDNEY
Sure, Casey.

CASEY
Maybe in the hallway? Less people
over there.
Tone goes serious; sinks in quick for Sidney.

SIDNEY
Yeah, sure. That’s fine..

INT. MACHER HOUSE - FRONT HALLWAY - NIGHT

The two girls make their way towards an isolated corner.

CASEY
Relationship advice, ironic right?

SIDNEY
Do we need more alcohol for this?
CASEY
No, no. It should be fine.

SIDNEY
No judgment here. I promise. What’s
on your mind?
CASEY
You promise no judgment?

SIDNEY
One hundred percent.
CASEY
(Anxious)
Me and Steve... it’s just, not
quite working out. And I don’t
really know what to do.
SIDNEY
I don’t want to pry; just looking
for context. How come? Have you
guys tried like.. talking?

Have you tried talking to him? You

No, no. Nothing abusive. It’s so
important to him not to be his dad.
He’s a good boyfriend. I just don’t
like conflict. At all.
Casey, still anxious, is starting to calm down some.
Comfortable to be talking to a friend and with Sidney’s
response.

SIDNEY
Conflict?
CASEY
I don’t like the temper. He’s
careful around me, but like... all
the fights in school. Bullying
others. It’s just too much for me.
I just feel stressed and
overwhelmed when I’m with him. He’s
just more into me than I am him.
Steve’s already planning for long
distance and I don’t even want
short distance.
SIDNEY
So you want to end it, but-

CASEY
But his brother just died. I was
going to do it this week until
then. I care about Steve; I don’t
want to hurt him more. I just feel
spent emotionally.
SIDNEY
I don’t know what to tell you. Not
a lot of guidebooks for breakups
when a sibling got murdered with a
killer on the loose.
CASEY
That’s how I feel. I don’t know how
long is appropriate, and I don’t
want to string him along either.

SIDNEY
I’m sorry.

CASEY
Not your fault. Should have done
this before. But you know, conflict
averse.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Steve’s on the couch, still drinking his way through the
night and aiming for well past buzzed at the moment; he’s
onto Beer #3. Not wasted yet as he glances around, watching
the crowd. Standing among them he spots Randy Meeks, a
couple of other drunken guys at the party seem to be
hassling him. Steve, taking a deep breath, gets up and makes
his way over towards Randy, drunkenly confident.
RANDY
Steve. Great. Come to join the fun?
They haven’t hit me yet if you want
the first swing.
STEVE
(Ignoring)
Hey, assholes. Lay off him.

DRUNK DOUCHE
We’re just messing around some.
STEVE
That wasn’t a request. Fuck off.
Steve’s back to his intimidating jock-stance; it works. The
drunken guys clearly don’t feel like a conflict and split
off, leaving just Steve and Randy there. Randy’s still
processing what just happened, a little speechless.

STEVE
You’re welcome, by the way.
RANDY
You really can’t help yourself, can
you?
STEVE
With what?
RANDY
Being an asshole.
Steve’s genuinely taken aback and a little confused.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 122.

STEVE
I just stood up for you there?

RANDY
Yeah, and were a dick to me again
right after. What the hell did I
ever do to you?
Steve takes a moment, actually ponders what Randy says and
takes the feedback in.
RANDY
Really? Nothing?
STEVE
I’m sorry, okay?
Randy’s quiet; genuinely surprised and processing the
apology.
STEVE
I’m sorry for the bullying and
being an asshole and all of it.
RANDY
Is this you being drunk or you
being genuine?

STEVE
Both.
Randy let’s his guard down, just a little bit. Hard to miss
Steve’s remorse.
RANDY
What brought all this on?
STEVE
Trying to be a better person.
RANDY
Since when?
Steve tilts his head right at the memorial banner.

STEVE
Since my friend and brother got
gutted and all I could think was
"It should’ve been me instead."

RANDY
(Shaking his head)
You were never as bad as Billy.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 123.

STEVE
Would rather just be "not an
asshole."
RANDY
Can’t say that.
STEVE
I know; it’s why I apologized. I
really am sorry.

RANDY
You gonna lay off me?
STEVE
One hundred percent.

RANDY
Thank you.
Steve nods his head; both guys take a sip of their
respective drinks.

RANDY
Now I feel glad I didn’t make that
bet with Stu.
STEVE
What bet?

RANDY
Said you were a dead man walking;
didn’t anticipate a redemption arc.

Steve chuckles a little, actually amused.

STEVE
Believe me, neither did I. Think
it’s enough to take me off this
guy’s hit list?

RANDY
(Shaking his head)
No. But hopefully you can beat him.
STEVE
And save our asses? That’d be nice.
RANDY
I think I like this Steve more.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 124.

STEVE
You know? I think I do too.
Steve goes for another sip of his beer; he’s out.
STEVE
I’m getting another beer, you want
one?
RANDY
Nah. I humiliated myself once
thanks to alcohol, don’t need to do
it again.
STEVE
You want to talk about it?

RANDY
No.
STEVE
No prob. I’ll just be-

RANDY
Don’t say it.
STEVE
Talk to you later.

RANDY
That’s better
Steve heads out of the living room and straight towards the
kitchen for another drink. Randy stays where he is, a little
more relaxed.

INT. NEWS VAN - NIGHT

Loud knocking on the door again. Kenny slides it open, and
Gale makes her way in.

GALE
How’s the angle?
KENNY
It’s good. Clear view of the party.
Gale looks at the camera; Kenny’s not wrong. Living room is
clear as day for everyone to see. Wide view, decent audio
quality. At the moment, just picking up mundane party
antics.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 125.

GALE
Fuck this is boring.
KENNY
What are you hoping to catch? It’s
a party.

GALE
A killing spree and killer reveal.
Obviously.

KENNY
Wouldn’t it better to preempt the
killing spree? Save lives and all?
GALE
Mass murder sells better when I go
for the movie deal.
Kenny’s staring in disbelief.
KENNY
(Sarcastic)
Nice.
GALE
I know how to do my job, okay? You
want that pay raise? Do what I say.

A moment’s pause, Gale’s pondering something.

KENNY
Is that why you lied to me about
telling Dewey?

GALE
I didn’t lie to you about that.
KENNY
I just told him what happened.

GALE
What?
KENNY
Yeah; he went off to investigate
something and the cops in.
GALE
You fucking idiot. Do you know what
you’ve just done?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 126.

KENNY
Saved people’s lives?

GALE
Fucked up our story. I can’t do it.
I can’t. This is insane.
Gale starts making her way out of the car again.

GALE
I need to find Dewey. Figure out
some way to fix your fuck up before
it derails my night.
KENNY
That wasn’t a fuck up.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT

Steve’s grabs another beer out of the fridge, makes his way
over towards Tatum and Stu. They’re relaxing, leaning
on the counter; Tatum’s comfortably sipping her drink,
Stu’s arm is around her.
TATUM
I told you we’d need more beer.

STU
No need to thank me; I know not all
heroes wear capes.

Tatum rolls her eyes, grabs a beer quick. Steve isn’t far
behind her, a little more amused with his friend’s joke.
Stu’s putting the rest away into the fridge.
TATUM
If there’s no need, I guess I
won’t.
STEVE
Thanks, Stu.
STU
Anytime, Steve.
Things are still a little tense and awkward. Stu and Tatum
are mutually a bit miffed, and Steve’s emotional health is
obviously not all that. Already chugging beer #3.

STEVE
(Sarcastic)
Nice banner, by the way.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 127.

STU
That wasn’t actually me.

STEVE
Kinda figured. Screamed Tatum, no
offense.
TATUM
None taken. It was my idea.

STU
You doing okay, Steve?
STEVE
Not really.

STU
(Jovially)
Come on. You love parties and
drinking.

STEVE
Stu, seriously. Not now.
Wrong approach; Stu’s trying to adjust. Tatum interjects
before he actually can.

TATUM
Jeez, sourpuss much?
STEVE
You try having your brother gutted.

TATUM
Dewey? Pfft. We can trade. He
drives me crazy half-the-time.
STEVE
Wow.
TATUM
What? It’s a joke?
STU
Hey, babe, maybe just cool it for a
minute.
Tatum sighs; her response is somewhere between true remorse
and disingenuous pandering.

TATUM
That was insensitive. Obviously
we’re your friends and here for
you.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 128.

STEVE
I think I liked it better when you
were bitchy. This just feels weird.
Tatum chuckles, flashes her big smile.

TATUM
I can turn it on and off when I
need to. Just don’t give me a
reason to hate you like...

Realization crosses Tatum face, probably not the time to

diss Casey. Stu’s tense. Steve’s pissed.
STEVE
Like Casey?

STU
(Diffusing)
How do you guys feel about tequila?
Want some?
TATUM
I know she’s your girlfriend, but-
STEVE
She is my girlfriend, so maybe lay
off her some. She hasn’t done
anything to you.

Stu’s face can be summed up as "Oh shit." He can see where

this is going, and it’s not good.
TATUM
Excuse me?
STU
(Panicked)
I really think that tequila is a
good idea.

STEVE
Stu, shut up.
TATUM
Trust me, Casey has it coming.

STEVE
For what? She was your friend until
you started being an absolute bitch
to her.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 129.

TATUM
(To Stu)
You want to tell him or should I?
Stu goes silent, eyes darting around looking for a way to
diffuse this.
STEVE
Tell me what?
STU
Fuck. Tatum, please don’t.
TATUM
It has to come out sooner or later.
STEVE
What has to come out?
STU
Steve, I am so sorry...
STEVE
Sorry for what?
TATUM
He fucked your girlfriend, okay?
STEVE
What?
Steve verges on emotionless, still processing what he’s just
been told. Tatum’s somewhere between anger and remorse.
Stu’s face is covered in guilt and regret.

STU
We were drunk and it was months
ago. I swear to God it was a one
time mistake.

Steve’s emotions start catching up with him, somewhere

between aggresive, uncontrolled rage and heartbroken
sadness. Not sure if he’s more angry or hurt with Stu and
Casey for what happened. He’s barely containing the anger,
but it won’t hold for long.

STEVE
Why have me find out like this?
STU
We were scared to tell you. We
didn’t want-

(CONTINUED)

STEVE
Want what? Me to explode?
Stu goes quiet.
STEVE
Fuck you.
Steve shoves his way out of the room. Tatum stays standing
in the kitchen, awkward and unsure of how to respond.

TATUM
I’m sorry, Stu.
Stu ignores her; makes his way out of the living room to
pursue Steve.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Steve is shoving his way through the crowd, unsure of where
he’s even going. Just trying to get away from everyone.
Stu’s right behind him, not intent to let him go.

STU
Steve, wait; please just let me fix
this.
Steve shoves him against the wall, aggressively pinning Stu
there with his arm.
STEVE
(Infuriated; hurt; yelling)
You had sex with my girlfriend and
didn’t even tell me! How the fuck
do you fix that?
STU
I’m so sorry.
STEVE
You’re like my brother. We’re best
friends. Give me a reason,
something. Fucking anything. Why
her over anyone else?

Stu’s silent, looking downward. No justifications. Nothing

to really say at all. Steve’s tears are catching up to his
anger.
It’s impossible to miss the scene at this point. Casey’s on
her feet, panicked Steve knows about the affair and not
happy to see her boyfriend getting physical. Sidney isn’t

far behind her, but stays back from the blow-up. Casey’s
trying to pull him off Stu; Steve isn’t budging, holding his
ground, no more, no less.
CASEY
Steve, Stop! Stop! Enough!
STEVE
Why!? Why did you do this?
CASEY
It was a mistake. I’m sorry.
STEVE
Would you both stop with the
fucking apologies!?

STU
What are we supposed to do, Steve?
STEVE
I don’t fucking know.

CASEY
Look, can we talk about it later? I
don’t want to do this in front of
everyone.
STEVE
I don’t give a fuck.
The entire party is focused on these three at this point;
impossible to miss such a big scene.

CASEY
Can you just get control of
yourself!? For once.
STEVE
How would you react if you were me?

CASEY
Not like this!
(Beat)
Fuck this is not how I pictured
this going.

STEVE
Pictured what? Telling me you had
sex with my best friend?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 132.

CASEY
No. Just...
STEVE
Then pictured what?

CASEY
Fuck.
Casey’s at a loss for words here; unsure of what to say to
even try to diffuse the situation. She doesn’t need to speak
anyways; it’s sinking in for Steve. Steve releases Stu,
who’s quickly catching his breath. Steve’s approaching
Casey, hurt, but there’s more of a gentle-ness and fragility
to his physicality, less threatening.
STEVE
What are you talking about?
CASEY
I told you; this isn’t the place.
Steve’s numbed out, unresponsive. Like he’s trying to take
everything in all at once. Stu, still looking guilty, goes
to comfort his friend; try to make up for it a little.
STU
Steve, I’m-

WHAM! Steve punches Stu right in the stomach, hard. Knocking

the wind out of him. Stu stumbles back a bit; a couple party
goers catch him.
STEVE
It should’ve been you two. Not my
brother and Billy.
CASEY
Steve, wait-

STEVE
I hope he kills you both.
Steve forces his way past the crowd of party goers that
started spectating the blow-up, grabbing the nearest beer
bottle that he can. Starts to chug it as he goes upstairs.

STU
(Catching his breath)
Party’s over, everyone. Go home.
The crowd’s slow to move towards the doors.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 133.

STU
I said go home.
They start to finally disperse. Stu glances up at Sidney.
STU
Fuck, where’s Tatum?
Sidney shakes her head and shrugs, clueless. Stu,
distressed, splits off from the group, seeking out his
girlfriend. An emotional Casey flees the room, ducking into
the kitchen.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT

A teary-eyed Casey makes her way in, still pretty shaken up.
Sidney isn’t far behind her.
CASEY
Go away.
SIDNEY
Hey, hey, come here.
Sidney wraps her arms around Casey, trying to just comfort
her, calm her down some.
CASEY
It never should have gone down like
that.
SIDNEY
It’s okay; just breathe.

Casey’s regaining her composure.

CASEY
Thank you.
SIDNEY
Anytime.
Deep breaths. Emotions decompressing.
CASEY
That’s not the breakup I wanted.
SIDNEY
I could tell.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 134.

CASEY
I am so sorry.
SIDNEY
I am not the one you owe an
apology.

CASEY
Shit.
Casey’s getting emotional again, clearly overwhelmed.

SIDNEY
Give Steve a few days. He’s a
hothead, but he never stays mad for
very long.

CASEY
Thank you.
SIDNEY
You want a ride home? Dewey can
throw you in back with me?

CASEY
No way I’m going back with Steve...
so yeah. Thanks.
Sidney starts headed towards the front door, bringing Casey
with her.
CASEY
Can we go out the back? I don’t
need all the stares and comments.
Being the school slut all over
again is going to suck hard enough
next week. Not racing for it early.
SIDNEY
Yeah, that’s fine. Garage then,
come on.

Sidney and Casey make their way towards the garage.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - GARAGE - NIGHT

The two girls enter the garage, lights on. Sidney

immediately opens the garage door, moments later the two
girls notice the blood splatter on the door and stairs.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 135.

CASEY
Is that blood?
SIDNEY
Stay here, just in case.

Sidney inches her way forward, very slowly. Slowly, she

discovers Dewey’s bloodied body on the other side of the
car.
SIDNEY
Oh my God, Dewey.
CASEY
(Unable to see)
What is it?

SIDNEY
He’s dead.
Sidney drops to the ground, trying to search for his gun.
Turns up nothing.

SIDNEY
I can’t find his gun.
CASEY
We need to get out of here.

Casey reopens the door between the house and the garage,
enter Ghostface. Standing right in the hallway, staring,
lunging right at both girls, knife out. Casey slams it shut
quickly. Knife coming right through the wood, narrowly
missing her face.

CASEY
Run!
Sidney’s back on her feet, racing out of the garage door,
Casey not far behind her.

EXT. MACHER HOUSE - NIGHT

Casey and Sidney circle around the house, racing towards the
front of it, Ghostface pursuing them, but slowly dropping
out of sight. Too late for them; they reach the front just
in time to watch the last of the party goers driving them
off, leaving both girls further isolated. Nothing but the
countryside and forest surrounds them for miles. With
nowhere else to turn, the two girls race back towards the
house and inside the front door.
136.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - FRONT HALLWAY - NIGHT

Both girls rush inside, Sidney slams and locks the door on
her way in.
CASEY
Where the hell is everyone?
The hallway’s dead-empty. Not a single living soul in sight.
SIDNEY
Party’s over.
Both girls are frozen, trying to take a second to process
where to go.
BANG. Ghostface, slamming against the front door, trying to
bash his way into the house. Visible through the windows.
Casey lets out an ear-piercing scream.
SIDNEY
Kitchen. We can grab weapons.

Casey nods, both girls round the corner towards it.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT

Sidney races towards the knives on sight. Just as she
reaches the counter, she’s tackled to the ground. Ghostface,
there and ready to kill. Casey races towards her friend,
trying to pull the figure off her.
CASEY
Get off of her!

Ghostface slams Casey into the fridge. Goes in for a quick

knife stab, she moves to the side, but still tears through
her skin. Shallow, but painful.
With his attention turned off Sidney, she grabs the killer’s
leg, forcing him off balance. Loud grunt as he stumbles;
releasing Casey who shoves him to the ground. Ghostface is
dazed, but only for seconds and knife still firmly in hand.
Sidney stumbles to her feet and both girls race out of the
kitchen back towards the front hallway.
137.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - FRONT HALLWAY - NIGHT

Door’s been bashed open, still no one else in sight. Casey
quickly starts flying up the stairway, unsure of where else
to go and trying to create distance.

SIDNEY
Casey, wait!
Casey ignores her, continuing up the flight of stairs and
racing into the first room she can. Sidney follows.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - STU’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Steve is laying on the bed, totally wasted, borderline
passed-out. Almost completely non-responsive to a panicked
Casey bursting into the room; she races over to him, starts
shaking Steve’s body to wake him from his daze.
CASEY
Steve! Steve! Wake up!

Casey makes her way in, slamming the door behind them.
SIDNEY
Is he passed out?
CASEY
I can’t wake him.
SIDNEY
I’m sorry, but we have to move.
CASEY
I’m not leaving him to die!
SLAM. Ghostface bashing against the door. Casey screams.
A disoriented Steve slowly returns to consciousness,
somewhat jolted by Casey’s scream and Ghostface slamming
against the bedroom door.
STEVE
(Half-conscious)
What is it?

SIDNEY
The killer’s here.
That jolts him into consciousness.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 138.

STEVE
What?
CASEY
We have to go. Come on.

Steve drags himself out of the bed, still regaining full

consciousness, but far more alert than before. Sidney
glances around the room, only one other way out. She races
towards the window, opening it and climbing onto the roof.

Steve’s helping Casey out the window. SLAM. Door smashes

open; Ghostface is in the room, Casey still only half out.
Steve looks back, sees him, and turns to look at Sidney.
STEVE
Keep her safe.

CASEY
What? What are you doing?
Sidney silently nods; Steve charges right at the killer,
swift punch to the gut. The ghost recoils in pain.

Casey’s on the roof, but hesitant to abandon her

ex-boyfriend.
CASEY
Steve come on!

STEVE
Get the fuck out of here.
SIDNEY
Casey, we have to go.

CASEY
We can’t just leave him!
SIDNEY
We don’t have a choice.
Sidney pulls a near-hysterical Casey away from the window,
leaving Steve alone with the killer as he goes in for
another punch.

EXT. MACHER HOUSE - NIGHT

Sidney and Casey are running across the roof when they hear
Steve’s scream. Casey’s tearing up.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 139.

CASEY
Oh my God.

SIDNEY
We have to keep moving.
CASEY
I know.

She freezes for a moment, pausing to think and calm down.

CASEY
Where do we go? We can’t stay up
here.

The girls quickly scour the countryside from the rooftop,

looking for anywhere to run too. It’s all empty except
Dewey’s cop car, and Gale’s news van. Lightbulb.
SIDNEY
The van! If they’re in there, we
can get the hell out of here. Gale
can drive off.
Casey starts trying to open a nearby window from the
outside, no such luck.

SIDNEY
We’re going to have to jump.
Casey’s anxiety skyrockets; Sidney and her climb across the
roof towards the van. Sidney hesitates for a moment before
leaping; she smashes into the ground, hard, but she’s okay.
Still able to stumble to her feet. Casey’s more hesitant to
jump.
SIDNEY
Casey, it’ll be okay. I promise,
I’m right hear.
CASEY
I hate heights.
Casey’s in ears, taking deep breaths. Just as she’s about to
jump, Ghostface comes up behind her, knife raised for a
kill.
SIDNEY
LOOK OUT!

Casey instinctively turns around; she screams as Ghostface

swings the knife at her and stumbles back. Casey grabs onto
his cloak in an attempt to stabilize herself, pulling both
of them off the roof. They smash into the ground below.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 140.

Sidney’s quick to Casey, helping her stumble to her feet.

SIDNEY
I’ve got you; come on!
Casey stumbles to her feet right as Ghostface slashes her
leg. She cries out in pain, but otherwise keeps pace with
Sidney. The girls dash towards the newsvan and start
pounding on the door. It slides open revealing Kenny, still
inside. Both girls rush inside.

INT. NEWS VAN - NIGHT

KENNY
What’s going on?

CASEY
He’s here.
SIDNEY
The killer. He’s right behind us.

Kenny’s in shock, processing everything he just heard.

CASEY
Do you have keys?
KENNY
(Shaking his head)
No. Gale has them.
SIDNEY
Where the hell is she?

KENNY
Last I saw her she was looking for
Dewey. Haven’t seen her since.
An ear piercing scream comes from outside the van. Kenny
races outside to look and see who needs help.

EXT. MACHER HOUSE - NIGHT

Randy, back towards the house and rapidly approaching the
news van. Shouting loudly, gesturing at him but Kenny can’t
quite make out what she’s saying. As Randy gets closer, the
message becomes clear.
RANDY
Behind you!
141.

Kenny turns around just in time for Ghostface to slash his

throat open, blood pouring out everywhere. Randy races back
towards the house as Ghostface tries to climb into the van.
Casey and Sidney slam the door shut, locking it, but the
killer still circles it.

INT. NEWS VAN - NIGHT

The girls are trapped. Can’t get out, but Ghostface can’t
get in either. They can see him circling through the
windshield; both girls are firmly focused dead-ahead on it,
not wanting to lose track of the killer. Sidney’s got her
phone out, dialing 911 now that she has the opportunity.
911 OPERATOR
911, what’s your emergency?

SIDNEY
I’m at Stu Macher’s house, 261
Turner Lane. Someone’s trying to
kill us. We have an officer down.
We’re trapped in a news van.

CASEY
Please! Get someone here as soon as
possible.
911 OPERATOR
Officers have already been
dispatched and are on their way;
please try to get to a safe and
secure location.

Ghostface isn’t outside the windshield anymore.

SIDNEY
Wait, something’s wrong.
CASEY
What?
SIDNEY
Where’d he go? Why can’t we see
him?

Sidney’s looking around, trying to figure out where

Ghostface went. She glances in one of the car’s mirrors and
sees. The backdoors to the van are wide open, Ghostface
right behind Casey.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 142.

SIDNEY
Casey, watch out!
Casey screams and ducks, barely missing a knife slash. She
shoves past the killer, rushing out the back as Casey climbs
out through the front.

EXT. MACHER HOUSE - NIGHT

Casey takes off fleeing towards the forest away from the
Macher house.
SIDNEY
Casey!
No luck, Casey ignores her. Ghost from the Newsvan lunges
out Sidney; she dodges, but he still gets a slice in. Sidney
takes off running in the opposite direction of Casey, back
towards Stu’s home. Ghostace glances back and forth between
the two girls; takes off towards Casey.
Panic sinks in as the killer starts to catch up with her;
she’s not fast enough. Casey continues to run, but it’s no
good. The ghost yanks her hair back as Casey screams out in;
stabs her in the chest, right where her voice box is. She
can’t even scream now.
Casey stumbles forward, falls against a nearby tree. Tears
stream from her eyes as she looks up at her killer. It’s all
over for her.
Ghostface slowly approaches the injured, taking all the time
in the world. Wants to remember this kill.

CASEY
(Barely audible)
Why?
The Ghost silently comes closer to her and raises the knife.
Casey extends her arm and takes hold of the mask. Ghostface
brings the knife down, stabbing her. Casey cries out in pain
as she pulls the mask off, revealing a positively elated
Tatum Riley. Casey looks up at her in shock as Tatum brings
the knife down once more, killing her.

Tatum looks around, careful to have not have been seen,

before the grabbing the mask from Casey’s hand and sliding
it back over her head. She takes off, leaving the body
behind.
143.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - FRONT HALLWAY - NIGHT

Sidney rushes into the house; takes a moment to breathe.
Unsure of where to go next or what to do. It hits her: grab
a weapon.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT

Sidney races in, grabs a knife off the counter. No Ghostface
to attack her this time, races out.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - FRONT HALLWAY - NIGHT

Sidney, armed makes her way back into the front hallway in
time for an injured Steve comes stumbling down the stairs;
he’s in rough shape, stabbed in the shoulder. Not moving
well and barely maintaining his balance. Sidney races to
help him down.
SIDNEY
Steve!

STEVE
He got me in the shoulder. Fuck.
SIDNEY
Here; I’ve got you.

STEVE
Where’s Casey?
SIDNEY
We got separated. I don’t know.
Ghostface went after her.
STEVE
She’s fast and she’s smart; she can
get away.
(Beat)
Stu?
SIDNEY
I haven’t seen him since this
started. I don’t know where he is.

Steve looks like his soul’s just been crushed, barely

clinging to what little hope is still there.
144.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Sidney helps Steve into the living room, leaving him lying
on a couch.

SIDNEY
Stay here.
STEVE
(Gesturing at the knife)
You want me to take that?

SIDNEY
You can barely walk; I’ve got it.
STEVE
Guess you’re right.

Steve nods; Sidney’s up and moving towards the kitchen,

leaving him there. Steve’s struggling to do much more than
lay down at the moment, partially due to injuries, partially
due to alcohol.

RANDY (O.S.)
Sidney? Anyone!?
Sidney’s eyes dart towards Randy’s voice from the front
hallway; she racs over towards him.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - FRONT HALLWAY - NIGHT

A confused, scared Randy is standing in the fronthallway
near the door, panicked and unsure of what to do. Sidney
makes her way towards him; instant relief on Randy’s part.
RANDY
Sidney! I was so worried about you.
Everyone’s dead. Are you okay?

SIDNEY
Yeah; I’m fine. Where have you
been?
RANDY
I was hiding outside. Nerds don’t
fair well in most slashers, but I
couldn’t keep hiding when I saw you
in danger. I’m not letting you get
hurt, no matter what.
(Beat. Smiling)
Guess I found the horror hero
inside me after all.

CONTINUED: 145.

STU
Oh my God! Sidney!
Instant and jarring interruption; Stu’s coming up towards
them from the other end of the hallway, a little dazed but
uninjured. Instantly secures Sidney and Randy’s attention.

STU
Sidney; you have to help me.
Everyone’s dead. I just saw Tatum
kill Casey outside.

SIDNEY
Tatum was with me when this guy
called us; it couldn’t be her.
STU
Maybe she has a partner or
something. I know what I saw!
RANDY
Can we trust him?

STU
What the fuck?
Stu’s staring at Randy and Sidney, stunned and almost a
little betrayed. Sidney’s keeping her distance from both
guys at this point, knife up, slowly backing away.

STU
You can’t think I did this?
RANDY
If your girlfriend’s in on it, you
might be helping her: the secret
partner.
STU
No! No, no, no. I’m why you know
Tatum’s a killer.

RANDY
Yeah. Convenient way to throw us
off.

SIDNEY
Where were you?
STU
Passed out in my room drunk. I woke
up to screaming and bodies all
over. Steve was dead in the other

bedroom. I just saw Dewey in the
garage on my way in.
SIDNEY
Steve’s alive.

STU
He is?
SIDNEY
He’s in the other room injured; the
killer stabbed him in the shoulder.

RANDY
Did you check for wounds?
SIDNEY
There was blood all over him.

RANDY
It could be corn syrup. You guys
saw Carrie, right?

STU
You can’t be serious-
RANDY
Pretty convenient this guy could
kill him and just injures Steve.

STU
I’ve known him since we were kids;
Steve would never hurt his own
brother.

RANDY
Why not? Maybe the apple doesn’t
fall so far from the tree.
STU
Fuck you; that’s my best friend.

RANDY
Yeah, who you betrayed. If it’s him
and Tatum, maybe they wanted
payback.

Stu, heated, shoves Randy; Randy goes defensive, Sid tries

to break them up.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 147.

SIDNEY
No. I don’t buy it. He was too
shook up over Connor’s death when I
visited him.

RANDY
Someone here’s a killer, Sid. And
the only people I know it’s not are
you and me.
STU
Everyone except you and Sidney. How
fucking convenient. The final girl
and her nice guy love interest,
right?
RANDY
Do you have a point?
STU
How do we know it isn’t you, Randy?
You’re the one racing to accuse
everyone? Desperate for a fall guy?

RANDY
Fuck you, I just want to keep
myself and Sid safe.
STU
Then where were you all night?
We’ve barely seen you.
RANDY
Hiding! That’s what I said.

STU
And before this guy started chasing
and killing everyone?
RANDY
Stu, are you serious?
STU
You’ve been gone almost all night
long; a lot of opportunities to
sneak off and murder Dewey or
someone. We’ve barely seen you
tonight.
RANDY
I told you earlier! This guy’s
framing me.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 148.

STU
Real convenient. No one else has an
actual motive, so it’s all about
framing you.

RANDY
What do you want from me? It’s not
like your alibi is any better.
STU
Where were you hiding?

RANDY
Outside.
STU
Where outside?

Pause. Randy doesn’t have an immediate answer. Not a good

look. Sidney’s turning her knife towards him.
SIDNEY
That’s not a hard a question.

RANDY
I was moving around a lot, okay? I
was behind the van, in the bushes.
I was scared of answering wrong.

STU
Not for me. I was hiding in the
trees when Tatum stabbed Casey.
RANDY
Are you fucking serious right now?
STU
You know Sid still isn’t going to
want you even after all of this.

BANG. BANG. Randy’s got a gun whipped out and two bullets
rip right through Stu’s chest and shoulder. His body
collapses to the ground; still, unmoving. Randy turns the
gun on Sidney.
RANDY
Fuck! I probably did that too soon.
I probably wasn’t cornered yet.
Sidney’s trying to inch away, knife still in her hand.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 149.

RANDY
Don’t move Sid! Fuck you were not
supposed to see this. We were just
going to pin it on Stu and it would
all be fine.

Tatum comes racing to the front door from outside.

TATUM
Oh my God! Stu was the killer?

RANDY
She knows, Tatum.
TATUM
Fuck!

Randy’s still got the gun aimed right at Sidney now; Tatum
pulls her own hunting knife out.
TATUM
Throw the knife away, Sid.

Sid’s reluctant.
TATUM
Randy, blow her fucking brains out
if she doesn’t.

Sidney caves, throws it away, starts to slowly climb to her

feet. Very anxious.
TATUM
How the hell did she find out?

RANDY
Stu saw your mask came off. He told
her everything, and I got a little
trigger happy. Fuck!

TATUM
I’m sorry. We really didn’t want
to have to kill you, Sid.
RANDY
Maybe we don’t have to. We can
still fix this.
TATUM
Excuse me?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 150.

RANDY
Sid.. she could understand? Right?
We were never going to actually
hurt her.

SIDNEY
Then why did you attack me? Why
threaten me? Why call me in the
middle of the night?
TATUM
This massacre was Randy’s idea; I
just came along for the ride.
RANDY
It was all for us.

SIDNEY
All for us?
RANDY
Billy was in our way. Of course he
had to go. He was in your head; you
couldn’t see clearly that I was the
right choice for you. I’m the one
who really loved you.
TATUM
(Sarcastically)
Romantic, isn’t it?
RANDY
You have no idea how upset I was
when I realized that I got to Billy
too late. That you already whored
yourself out to him. But, you know,
we can fix things. I figured we can
still make this work.
TATUM
Also, I had some people I wanted to
kill along the way: Casey, Stu. You
know. People that pissed me off.
Had an affair behind my back.
(Beat)
Stu was supposed to be our fall
guy. Even stole his phone so the
cops would trace the calls him too.
SIDNEY
Are you two serious? All this over
an affair and a crush?

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 151.

RANDY
I couldn’t just kill Billy or
something. The cops might know it
was me. No alibi, clear motive.
Figured why not go all the way?
Make our own little horror movie?
I’ve always thought it would be
fun. That’s why we kept it to
people who had it coming. Billy was
a complete asshole and dating you.
Gale’s a fucking sociopath; we
still have to knock her off. Casey
betrayed Tatum; Stu did too, not to
mention he’s a spoiled brat. Steve
bullied me and Connor was his
brother. Tatum and I were very
specific. Asshole victims only.

TATUM
You still haven’t killed Gale?
RANDY
I haven’t been able to find her all
night. We still have to finish
Steve off too.
TATUM
I didn’t on purpose. Figured you
wanted to do that one like I wanted
to take Stu out.
RANDY
Yeah, well, shit happens.

SIDNEY
You say they had it coming, but
Dewey? Gale’s camerman?
RANDY
I did warn Dewey not to get in our
way. Guess the same goes for Kenny.
Sorry about your brother, Tatum.
TATUM
No big. Looks like his gun came in
handy.

RANDY
I had it all mapped out. Right down
to me saving you from the true
killer Stu Macher, earning your
undying love.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 152.

TATUM
Seriously Sid. He’s obsessed with
you. It’s kinda gross.
RANDY
Shut up! It’s romantic.
TATUM
I definitely see why you’re a
Valentine fan. You relate way too
much to David Boreanaz in that.

RANDY
Those women had it coming. You saw
how they treated him.
TATUM
Even digging slashers, the feminist
in me? Can’t do that one. Way too
misogynistic.
RANDY
You are so fucking sensitive.
Feminist my ass. I thought we
agreed: all sluts die, that’s why
we offed Casey?
TATUM
Yeah, well, she pissed me off. I
make exceptions.
(Beat)
Anyways, we really need to off
Sidney now.

RANDY
No, we don’t. I know she gets it.
Sidney gets I love her. We can fix
this. She’ll cover for us. Another
alibi.

Sidney starts nodding, desperate for any out she can get.
SIDNEY
Yeah. For sure. You and me Randy.
It’s like the ultimate love letter.
No one’s made me the star of a
movie before.
RANDY
See? I told you she’d get it. She’s
not like other girls.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 153.

TATUM
Aren’t I one of those other girls?

RANDY
Yeah, but way fucking cooler.
TATUM
You dumbass lovestruck little
puppy. She’s obviously lying to
you.
SIDNEY
No I’m not. I swear. I’ve never had
a guy who was so serious about me.
So dedicated to me.

RANDY
Okay, okay. I know how to prove it.
She can kill Steve.
TATUM
Are you fucking kidding me?
RANDY
No. Think about it. If she loves
me, she’d want to help me. He
bullied me. He has it coming. The
years of mocking and namecalling.
It’s been since we were kids. It’s
her way of protecting me like I
protected her from Billy.

TATUM
Yeah, that’ll land.
Tatum’s rolling her eyes, beyond pissed.
TATUM
Whatever. You can have her kill
Steve, but I get the gun because
Sid’s going to pull a fast one.
RANDY
That’s totally fine. I trust
Sidney.
Randy, actively amped up, hands Tatum the gun; pulls out his
own hunting knife and gives it to Sidney.
RANDY
Okay, where’s Steve at?
Sidney’s hesitant; really doesn’t want to help Randy kill
him.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 154.

RANDY
It’s okay. I was anxious for my
first kill too.
TATUM
Crazy that you’ve killed someone
before having sex.
RANDY
I was saving myself, okay?

TATUM
As if you ever had the chance for
sex.
RANDY
It is not my fault girls can’t
recognize a nice, good guy when
they see one.
(Beat)
Come on, Sidney. Let’s kill him and
prove her wrong about you.

SIDNEY
(Reluctantly)
He’s in the living room.
RANDY
See? I told you. She’s on board.
Randy and Sidney make their way towards Steve; he’s right up
beside her. Tatum’s standing at a distance, gun in hand.
Locked right on Sidney.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Steve, barely conscious, is lying there; looks up to see
Sidney with a knife in hand and hyped up Randy beside her.
He just looks up, pleading.

STEVE
I’m sorry.
RANDY
I know you are. Dead friends, dead
brother. About to die. The
redemption arc’s nice, but too
little too late. Come on, Sid, kill
him. Prove how much you love me.
Sidney’s overwhelmed by emotions. Desperately looking for an
out. Looks back up, Tatum still has the gun aimed at her,

but, behind Tatum, Gale Weathers. Very slowly sneaking up on

her from behind. Looking for an opportunity to take her out.
Randy’s too oblivious to noticed, fixated entirely on Sidney
and Steve, back turned to Tatum.
SIDNEY
I’m sorry, Steve.
STEVE
Please.
Sidney raises the knife, stabbing it into a positively
stunned Randy. Twists it to try and hurt a little more, take
him out. Before Tatum can blow her away with the gun, Gale’s
tackled her, knocking her to the floor. The two fighting
over the gun. It fires, bullet flying into the ceiling.
RANDY
Sidney?
Randy, still conscious, lunges at her, tackling Sidney to
the ground. Starts strangling her. The knife hurt, but
clearly didn’t take him out.
RANDY
Guess you’re just like all those
other girls after all.

Sidney’s kicking and flailing, but not doing much good. A

badly injured Steve knocks Randy off her, getting a punch or
two in. Sidney stumbles back to her feet. Randy grabs a
nearby vase, smashes it into Steve’s head. It shatters,
leaving Steve in a barely conscious haze. Randy’s back on
his feet, pulling the knife out of himself, and lunging for
Sidney. She races from him towards the kitchen.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT

Sidney’s faster, but not by much. Grabs a rolling pin off

the counter, the closest thing to her, and slams it into
Randy’s head. It hurts, but not enough to throw him off
balance. Randy slams Sidney against the refridgerator.
Starts choking her again, before tossing her to the ground.
He goes for the stab, while Sidney goes right for his balls.
Hard punch right to them. That throws him off balance. Hurts
badly.
Sidney takes advantage of it. Slams Randy’s head against the
counter. More pain, more off balance, more daze. Grabs a
half-filled beer bottle off the counter and slams it into
his head, shattering it. Shards cut up his face and the
half-drank beer pours over his face and shirt. Alcohol on
the cuts burns, bad. Randy cries out in pain.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 156.

Sidney races across to the opposite counter, grabbing a

knife off it. Randy’s regained his balance, tackling her to
the ground. He starts trying to strangle Sidney again; she
jams the knife into him and shoves him off, back onto the
floor. Sidney pulls the knife out and starts stabbing Randy
again and again, tearing through his flesh as he cries out
in pain. Hacking away at him until Randy goes still, eyes
glazed over. Totally lifeless and dead. Sidney makes her way
out of the kitchen.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Tatum’s still fighting with Gale for the gun. Neither woman
can quite take point. Tatum looks around, sees a lamp on a
table. Reaches up to grab it, smashing it into Gale’s head.
Big bruise, and she’s unconsious. Tatum stands back up, gun
in hand.
TATUM
Bam, bitch went down. I always
wanted to do that
(Beat)
This is Gale Weathers, signing off.
Before Tatum can take Gale out, Sidney dashes at her,
knocking Tatum to the ground. Gun goes flying off towards
the living room. Sidney stumbles to her feet to try and
reach it, but Tatum grabs her leg pulling her back. Sidney
slams into a nearby table as she falls to the floor.
TATUM
I don’t think so, Sid.

Tatum climbs on top of her best friend, pulling out her

hunting knife and readying it to stab Sidney.
SIDNEY
Tatum, please. You know I couldn’t
pretend to love Randy, he’s sick.
But we’re best friends. You and I
can still blame Stu.
TATUM
Randy may be a lovestruck moron,
but I’m sure as hell not. It’s
really nothing personal; I just
don’t want to spend the rest of my
life in prison.
Tatum brings the knife down on Sidney, she pulls away just
in time, taking a hit to the shoulder. Deep and painful, but
far from fatal.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 157.

TATUM
You really want to make this hard
for yourself, don’t you? Even Casey
knew not to fight back at this
point.
Tatum smacks Sidney across the head, dazing her. Raises the
knife up again and readies it for a stab.

BANG. BANG. BANG. Three bullets tear through Tatum’s chest.

She drops the knife and collapses to the ground; alive, but
in critical condition.
Steve’s across the room on his feet, smoking gun in hand.
Hate covers his face. Steve makes his way over, he tries to
help an injured Sidney to her feet, but isn’t really in the
shape to offer much stability.
STEVE
You okay?

SIDNEY
I’m alive.
Steve stares down at the injured Tatum, gun aimed at her
head; she’s lying on the ground looking right up at him.

TATUM
Casey begged for her life, you
know. That little whore-
BANG. Steve doesn’t even let Tatum finish the sentence
before blasting a bullet in her brain. His face is cold,
emotionless. Like he hasn’t finished processing everything
yet. Except his eyes. The pain and sadness come through
clear there. Steve leans back against a wall, resting
against it to try and keep balance. Looks over to see
Stu’s body on the stairs. His heart sinks a little more.

Gale slowly regains consciousness, stumbling to her feet.

Sees Tatum dead on the ground. Relieved, but resentful. Lost
her opportunity to shine.
GALE
Is the incel dead too?
SIDNEY
Yeah; I killed him.
STEVE
I’m... I’m going to go make sure.
Steve limps off towards the kitchen, moving slowly buy
steadily. Using the wall to help him.

SIDNEY
How’d you know to help ups?
GALE
Camera.

She gestures towards the PS5.

GALE
Saw it from my newsvan. Thought you
might need some help.

SIDNEY
You weren’t there earlier?
GALE
I found Dewey’s body and hid; not
like I’d know where the killer is.
I was playing it smart.
BANG. BANG. Steve comes back, emerging from the kitchen.
STEVE
He’s definitely dead now. Just
being safe.

INT. MACHER HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAWN

Steve’s reclining on the couch; still injured and in rough

shape, albeit more conscious than before. The paramedics and
police are arriving outside; lights flashing through the
windows. Sidney’s sitting on a chair nearby; Gale’s over by
the window messing with her phone, trying to get a camera
crew ready.

STEVE
Do you think they knew I regret it?
SIDNEY
Regret what?
STEVE
Casey and Stu. Saying I wanted them
to die.

SIDNEY
You nearly died protecting Casey.
She knew you didn’t mean it.
STEVE
I wish I had.

(CONTINUED)

SIDNEY
They wouldn’t want that.
STEVE
Come on; we both know you’d rather
see them here than me.

SIDNEY
I didn’t want anyone to die.
Steve goes quiet, nods in agreement.

STEVE
Wish I could do it over.
SIDNEY
Do what over?

STEVE
Everything: the Randy bullying, the
fight... all of it. Do it right
this time.

SIDNEY
Just do better going forward.
STEVE
Yeah.

Police and paramedics are swarming the inside of the house,

in through the front door. Gale’s heading out as they come
in, making her way towards a camera crew.
SIDNEY
Over here. We need an ambulance.

Sidney’s on her feet, moving, but slow. Steve’s trying to

get up; paramedics have a stretcher by him, but he pushes
away. Doesn’t want it.

STEVE
I can walk.
They meet him in the middle; helping him limp his way to the
door along with Sidney.

PARAMEDIC
Hey! We have a live one over here!
Sidney and Steve look at each other, stunned and confused,
and turn towards the paramedic. Somewhere between genuinely
overjoyed, and terrified to get their hopes up. They see Stu
Macher being put on a stretcher, regaining the slightest bit

of consciousness. Stu looks up at his best friend, grimaces.

A little goofy, as is his nature.
STU
Sorry to disappoint you.

STEVE
Don’t be. I’m so sorry. I never
should have said that.
The boys share a warm smile with each other, Sidney smiles
too. All three headed towards the ambulance.

EXT. MACHER HOUSE - DAWN

All three of Stu, Sidney, and Steve are being brought and
loaded into an ambulance, getting ready to take off and get
them to a hospital.
Gale Weathers is in the distance practicing her broadcast
with a brand new camera crew.

GALE
What began with the scream of a 911
call came to a bloody conclusion
that no one could foresee. My name
is Gale Weathers, and here, at this
isolated, peaceful farmhouse, a
series of murders have ended in a
bloodbath that will shock this
small town of Woodsboro for years
to come. Alright, let’s go people.
They move back into position as the ambulances pull away and
the sun continues to rise on the horizon.
