IV. PROCEDURES

In order to refresh your memory from our past lesson, let’s have an
activity, entitled “Pick a Fries”.

Mechanics:

1. I have here a big Fries, each piece of this fries has a

question. I will select a student to come here in front to pick a
A. Reviewing previous fries and answer the question written on it.
lesson or presenting the 2. The process will continue until the last piece of fries is
new lesson answered.

Questions:

1. What is the relation where each element in the domain is

related to only one value in the range by some rule?
2. What is the test used to identify if the given graph is a
function?
3. What is the variable that is known as the independent
variable or the input value?

Let’s have an activity called “Function Machine”. The class will be divided
into three groups. Each group will be given materials needed in this
activity.

Mechanics:

1. I’ll be representing a function machine and a set of input to be

process in the machine.
2. Every member will help each other to find the output in the given
machine. The first group to write and raise the correct output will
gain 1 point.
3. The group that will have the highest score will be the winner.

B. Establishing purpose
for the lesson

Questions:

1. If 7 goes into the machine, what number comes out?

2. If 14 goes into the machine, what number comes out?
3. If 3x goes into the machine, what number comes out?
4. If 25 goes into the machine, what number comes out?
5. If 2x+2 goes into the machine, what number comes out?

What value have you developed while doing the activity?

ESP8Pllg-8.2

What have you observed from the function machine activity?

C. Presenting Renting a van costs Php1000 plus Php250 per day, which is
examples/instances of expressed as f ( x )=250 x +1000. What is the total renting cost of van
the new lesson in 5 days?

D. Discussing new Solving the problem

concepts and practicing
f ( x )=250 x +1000
new skills # 1
f ( 5 )=250 ( 5 ) +1000

f ( 5 )=1250+1000

f ( 5 )=2250
Processing the Activity

a. How can we evaluate a function given the value of x?

b. Evaluating a function means replacing the variable in the

function, in this case x, with a value from the function’s domain and
computing for the result. To denote that we are evaluating f at x for some x
in the domain of f, we write f (x).

Group Work
Mechanics:

a. Group the class into Two teams

b. Choose a leader.
c. Choose a secretary.
d. Choose a reporter.
e. Read and solve the given problem within 5 minutes. Write your
answer on manila paper.
f. After that there will be a group reporting

Group 1 Problem
E. Discussing new Your group decided to sell snacks in the nearby school. In one day your
concepts and practicing group spends Php. 200 for rent and Php. 25 for each snack item you
skills # 2 prepare..Your expenses in a single day can be expressed as the function
C (x) = 25x + 200, where x is your daily expenses in pesos. How much is
your expenses if the group prepare 100 snacks?

Group 2 Problem

Your group decided to sell snacks in the nearby school. In one day your
group spends Php. 100 for rent and Php. 35 for each snack item you
prepare..Your expenses in a single day can be expressed as the function
C (x) = 35x + 100, where x is your daily expenses in pesos. How much is
your expenses if the group prepare 150 snacks?

Let f ( x )= √ x−3 . Find each function value.

e. f (5)

G. Finding practical
applications of concepts How can we identify our daily expenses if we aim to have a
and skills in daily living business?

H. Making To sum up our lesson for today, what have you learned from our
generalizations and discussion?

lesson
What values have you develop during the discussion and activity?
Directions: On a one whole sheet of paper, answer the following in 10
minutes.

A. Evaluate the given functions.

I. Evaluating learning 1. Let f(x) = - 2x2 + 4x + 5. Find each function value.

a. f (5) b. f (0) c. f (8)

2. Let f(x) = 5x3 – 8. Find each function value.

a. f (3) b. f (2) c. f (5)

Solve the following problem.

J. Additional activities 1. The Math Club goes to an amusement park. Student tickets cost 20
for application or pesos each. Teachers go for free. The bus costs 30 pesos. This is
remediation expressed as f (x) = 20x + 30. How much is the cost of 25 students
going in the amusement park?
