PART 1 : READING

Experiments on Animals
There are lots of opinions about experiments on animals. Some people
have good reasons for using animals for experiments but some people
completely disagree with this idea.
Scientists use animals when it is really necessary and most animal
experiments do not involve pain.
Some operations require practice which cannot be done on humans. When it is necessary, an anesthetic is always used so
that the animal feels no pain. We need to test new drugs and chemicals on animals in order to predict possible side-
effects; if we don’t do this, we will never find cures for diseases. Lots of research with animals helps to develop new
treatments for animal diseases.
For some people, it is morally wrong to do things to laboratory animals which we would not do to our pets. Humans and
animals are different, so scientists do not get important elements from animal testing. Most scientists do animal
experiments for unimportant reasons - for example to produce cosmetics or food additives. A lot of research hurts animals
and you can see the changes in their behavior!
Tests on animals do not give reliable results because animals react differently to humans.
We should spend more money on preventing diseases instead of focusing so much on cures. Healthy diet and doing sports
regularly are the keys to the healthy life.
