“SUMMARY OF BIAG NG LAM-ang”
At the north of the Philippines, in Nalbuan, which is now a part of La Union,
lived Don Juan and his wife Namongan. Lam-ang was the name of their son. Don
Juan went to the mountains before Lam-ang was born to avenge a bunch of their
Igorot adversaries. His son Lam-ang was born while he was away. Namongan
needed four people to help with childbirth. The moment the baby boy emerged, he
spoke and requested that Lam-ang be given as his name. He also asked where his
father was and selected his godparents.
Lam-ang made the decision to go in search of his father after nine months of
waiting for him to come back. Lam-ang, in Namongan's opinion, was up to the
task, but she was sorry to see him go. He made the decision to take some time to
recuperate throughout his strenuous travel. As he dozed off, he dreamed that the
Igorot had impaled his father's skull on a pole. When Lam-ang discovered what
had transpired with his father, he was indignant. All of them were slaughtered as
he sped to their town, but he released one so that he might tell others about Lam-
ang's magnificence.
He triumphantly returned to Nalbuan and was bathed in the Amburayan river by
women. Due to Lam-stink ang's body's and grime, every fish perished.
nes Kannoyan was a young lady that Lam-ang wished to impress. He visited her at
Calanutian while bringing his white rooster and gray dog. On the way, Lam-ang
encountered Sumarang, a rival suitor for Ines, with whom he engaged in combat
and easily prevailed. The home of Ines was surrounded by numerous admirers who
were all vying for her attention when Lam-ang arrived. He set off his rooster,
which knocked over a neighboring house. Ines became aware of this. When he
made his dog bark, the collapsed home suddenly rose to its feet. Parents of the girl
saw this and called for him. The rooster conveyed Lam-ang's affection.
In exchange for Lam-ang providing them with a dowry that was worth twice as
much as their own fortune, the parents agreed to have their daughter wed to Lam-
ang. This requirement was easily met by Lam-ang, and he and Ines were wed. It
was customary for a newlywed to swim in the river in search of the rarang fish.
Sadly, Lam-ang dove right into the Berkakan water monster's mouth. Ines asked
Marcos to retrieve his bones, which she then covered with a cloth. His dog barked,
his rooster cooed, and then the bones began to move gradually. Lam-ang was
resurrected, and he and his wife, along with his white rooster and gray dog, lived
happily ever after.
2. BIOGRAPHY OF THE AUTHOR

Filipino poet Pedro Bukaneg lived from March 1592 to around 1630. Being blind
from birth, he is regarded as the "Father of Ilocano literature" and is thought to
have written portions of the epic poem Biag ni Lam-ang (Life of Lam-ang). An
elderly woman discovered Bukaneg, a foundling, shortly after his birth floating in
a basket in the Banaoang River between Bantay and Vigan. They took him to the
Bantay Augustinian priest, who gave him the name Pedro Bucaneg and christened
him. To further his religious and cultural studies, Bukaneg was sent to the
Augustinian monastery in Manila. He studied Latin and Spanish in addition to
Ilocano Isneg and the regional tongues.
He was requested to translate prayers and sermons into regional languages by the
priests in the area due to his proficiency in those tongues. He was requested to
assist in converting the local populace. As a troubadour, Bukaneg was adored by
the Ilocanos and wrote poetry and songs. The locals thought of him as a seer. Even
the Spaniards made fun of him for his work. By resting his palm on the chests of
all of these individuals, he would have been able to identify the Itneg man who had
murdered a Spanish servant on two consecutive days. He couldn't write because he
was blind. While someone else wrote, he spoke aloud his songs, poetry, and
translations. The author of the Ilocano epic Biag ni Lam-ang is.
It's also probable that the Ilocano sang Bukaneg's compositions for generations,
preserving them for all time. The Doctrina Cristiana was also translated into
Ilocano by Bukaneg. One of the first books printed in the Philippines, this book
was produced in 1593 with the intention of converting the indigenous populace.
The Augustinian Convent of Manila released the Ilocano version of Bukaneg in
1621. The first grammar book written in Ilocano by Brother Francisco Lopez, Arte
de la Lengue Iloca, was published in 1627 by the University of Santo Tomas and
was largely the work of Bukaneg. Around 1630, Bukaneg passed away. A street in
the Cultural Center of the Philippines complex is named in his honor.
