GABIONS AND MATTRESS vs.

ARTICULATED CONCRETE BLOCK MATTRESSES

This document illustrates the main comparison points between Articulated Concrete Block Mattress
(ACBM) and Reno mattresses in river and channel protection.

The Articulated Concrete Block Mattress (ACBM) is a rectangular unit made of concrete blocks can be
linked together by means of steel or synthetic cables running through purpose-made holes in the blocks.
The ACBM for river and channel protection are particularly suitable for regions where stone of moderate to
big size is difficult or too costly to obtain.

Mattresses are rectangular wire mesh flat baskets filled with selected rocks that are laid end to end and
side to side on a prepared channel bed and/or bank.
