Define burns.

1. Burns can include Thermal burns, which are caused by contact with flames, hot liquids or other
sources of high heat.  Burns can be minor medical problems or life-threatening emergencies.

Types of burn

Burns are assessed by how seriously your skin is damaged and which layers of skin are
affected.
Your skin has 3 layers:

 the epidermis – the outer layer of skin

 the dermis – the layer of tissue just beneath, which contains blood capillaries, nerve
endings, sweat glands and hair follicles
 the subcutaneous fat, or subcutis – the deeper layer of fat and tissue

2. Define the care for major burn injury

Mobilized the burned area under cool like luke warm running water or apply a cool, wet
compress until the pain eases. Don't use ice. Putting ice directly on a burn can cause further
damage to the tissue. Remove rings or other tight items. Try to do this quickly and gently, before
the burned area swells.

3. Define and explain the types of Thermal injuries

Thermal burns occur when you come in contact with something hot. Typically, you will suffer a
thermal burn when you touch Flames or fire, Hot, molten liquid or steam (referred to as a scald)
Hot objects, such as cooking pans, irons, or heated appliances.
Treatment for thermal burns depends on the location and severity of the burn. For moderate to
severe burns, you should immediately call 911 or other emergencies hotline.

4. Define and explain the types of Electrical injuries.

Electrical injuries can happen when the body comes in contact with an electric current so the
first source of this is from defective appliances or other moist places that can attract the
electricity or from the lightning. The most common cause of electrical burn is coming in contact
with an extension cord where the insulation material has worn away. Our internal systems are
not resistant to electricity, so you may be injured if a strong volts enters your body.

A burn may appear on your skin if an electric current runs through your body. These burns can
be treated like a thermal or chemical burn. However, if you come in contact with an electric
current, you should seek emergency medical attention immediately. Electricity can affect
internal tissues and muscles and have long-term, negative effects on your health.
5. First aid for burns
Immerse in fresh cool water (not so cool) apply cool compresses, continues for 10-15 minutes
Dry with clean cloth and cover with sterile gauze, Do not brake blisters and do not apply
ointments it may cause infection, elevate burn arms or legs.

6. Define and explain degrees of burn injuries

Types of burns we have first degree burn it involves the top layer of skin. burns affect only the outer
layer of skin, the epidermis.

There are sign and symptoms of first degree first is redness, painful to touch, skin to show mild
swelling.

The next is second degree burn involves the first two layer of skin. burns involve the epidermis and
part of the lower layer of skin, the dermis.

Signs are:

Deep reddening of the skin , pain, blisters, glossy appearance from leaking fluid or possible loss of
some skin.

Third degree burn which is penetrate the entire thickness of the skin and permanently destroy
tissue. Third-degree burns destroy the epidermis and dermis.

The signs are loss skin layers, skin dry and leathery skin possible charred or with patches that appear
white, brown, or black.

Fourth-degree burns. Fourth-degree burns go through both layers of the skin and underlying tissue
as well as deeper tissue, possibly involving muscle and bone. There is no feeling in the area since the
nerve endings are destroyed.
