INTRODUCTION TO QURAN :
The Qur'an is the holy book of Islam. The angel Gabriel gave the Quran to
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The name "Quran" which appears in the Islamic
scripture itself, derives from the verb "qara a-," meaning "To read or recite."
Muslims believe that the Quran, which is the primary sacred text of Islam, is a
revelation from God. The words in the Quran are not just inspired by God; they are
really the words of God.

PROTECTION OF QURAN :
Yet, because the Quran was not revealed all at once but rather in piecemeal
in accordance with the requirements and conditions of the time, however the
Muslims were unable to preserve it as a written book during the lifetime of Hazrat
Muhammad (PBUH). But Allah has given the Quran a special status among the other
divine writings, making it more likely to be preserved through memory and writing.A
narration in “Sahih Muslim” claims that Allah promised Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)
that He would "reveal to you a Book which water cannot wash," alluding to the
Torah and other divine writings that were not immune to modifications. But, the
Quran would be protected in the hearts of Muslims, so there would be no risk of it
being lost or altered. As a result, God has made it obvious that he will guard the
Quran.
The protection of the Quran in the hands of the Muslim has progressed
through three stages. Muslims have sacrificed their lives and given their all for the
Qur'an's preservation. The stages of the Quran's protection in Muslims' hands has
progressed through the following stages :

1. Protection of Quran in the era of Hazrat Abu’Bakar

2. Protection of Quran in the era of Hazrat Umer
3. Protection of Quran in the era of Hazrat Usman
3

DIVISION OF QURAN :
There are 114 Surahs and 30 Paragraphs in the Holy Qur'an. The amount of
verses in each surah varies. Of them, 86 were revealed in Makkah and 28 in Madinah
out of a total of 114. Each Surah teaches Muslims a fresh lesson about how to be on
the right path and warns them about sins and how they will be punished for them.
Muslims hold a unique devotion for the first chapter of the Book. It is known as
"Surah Fateh."

AL-MU’MINUN:
The Quran’s 23rd chapter Al-Mu’minum, contains 118 verses. Considering the
timing and contextual setting of the alleged revelations. It is an old “Meccan
Surah”.
This verse covers the cornerstones of belief, Tawheed, Risalah, Resurrection,
and the final judgement of God. By emphasizing God's creation of man through
many phases in the womb of his mother, the Quran emphasizes these concepts.
The focus on the idea that people will die and be raised up on the day of judgement
is combined with His creation of the heavens and the Earth, His pouring down of
rain, the growth of plants, trees, and fruits, and His provision of domestic animals
with a variety of benefits for man.
The concept of Risalah is underlined by the reference to the narratives of
some of the Prophets of Islam, including Nuh, Hud, Musa and Isa who all preached
the concept of Monotheism but were rejected and opposed by their listeners
before being saved and helped by Allah. It also makes mention of the Meccan
leader’s comparable disbelief and rejection to the message Hazrat Muhammad
(PBUH) brought to them. The surah concludes with a further allusion to the
certainty of the Day of Resurrection and a remainder that man will not be given a
second chance to atone for his failings and mistakes in this life by returning to it.

CHARACTERISTICS OF TRUE MUSLIMS IN AL-MU’MINUN:

In Surat Al-Mu’minun, out of 118 verses, the first 9 verses describe the
qualities of true believers and the verses 10-11 discuss the rewards of the true
believers in the hereafter. The qualities of the true Muslims mentioned in Surat Al-
Mu’minun are;

 The believers have indeed attained true success

 Those who pray humbly
 Who shun idle talk
 Who pay the prescribed alms
 Who guard their chastity (except with their spouse or slaves)
 Who are faithful to their trust and pledges
 And those who keep up their prayers

1. POSSESS AL-KHUSHOO :
4

The Arabic phrase used to describe the people is “Khashi’oon” meaning those
who possess “Al-Khushoo”, which means “Those who are humble in their prayers.”.
This attribute is the first one mentioned in the Surat’s second verse.
A traditional tafsir named Tafsir Ibn Kathir claims that the Arabic word
"Khushoo" denotes calmness, serenity, quiet, dignity, and humility. Ibn Abbas
defines "Khashi'oon" as meaning "with fear and tranquility," in contrast. Al-Khushoo
is a crucial element of Salah that is easily lost. According to a Hadith, Hazrat
Muhammad (PBUH) stated that "Al-Khushoo shall be lifted up first from this Ummah
till you realize that no one has Al-Khushoo".
To achieve Al-Khushoo, one must put everything in the outside world aside
and focus on their prayer acts, reciting the Quran, thinking about the verse they are
reading and keeping death, grave and hell in their minds so that they never lose
focus. Ibn Kathir states in his Tafseer that “Khushoo is earned through the fear of
Allah and the knowledge that He is ever observing”.

2. TURN AWAY FROM AL-LAGW :

The believers turn away from Al-Lagw, which is the second characteristic
deduced from verse 3. According to Ibn Kathir, the word “Al-Lagw” means
“falsehood”, which includes all acts of sin, including the biggest of them-Shirk in
Islam- and any words or deeds that are harmful. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) has said
“Out of a person being a good Muslim is his leaving alone, what does not benefit
him”; while in the Sahih-al-Bukhari, he is also reported to have said “Let he who truly
believes in Allah and the last day speak good or be silent”.

3. PAY THE ZAKAT :

Zakat, or the poor-due that is paid on one’s wealth, is described as being paid
by believers in verse 4. According to Quranic commentators like Ibn Kathir, this verse
may also be referring to the poor-due which reads “In addition, it’s possible that
what is meant by Zakat here is the purification of the soul from Shirk and filth”. In
another place, it also states that;

“Indeed he succeeds who purifies himself. He who corrupts himself does really
fail”.

4. GUARD THEIR CHASTITY :

“And who protect their modesty; Except from their wives or slaves that their
right hands possess, for they are not blameworthy; but those who craveth beyond
that, such are transgressors.”, the Quran says this in verses 5 through 7 of this Surat.
Zina (extramartial sex) is one of the greatest sins in Islam, for which the Quran and
reliable hadith attributed to Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) provide strong warnings. In
some parts of Quran, Allah says;

“Come not near to Zina.Verily, it is an Fahishah (immoral sin) and an evil way”.

The true believers protect themselves from Zina at all cost. They guard their
chastity, except from their wives and their slaves that their right hand possesses.

5. FAITHFUL TO THEIR COVENANTS:

The following verses emphasizes the characteristics of trust that are believers
are to have, referring to them as;

“Those who faithfully observe their trusts and their covenants”.

Similar advice can be found in the Quran, which declares that Allah has commanded
that you return trusts to their rightful owners.
The true believers keep the trusts of other safe and try as much as possible
not to inflict any harm on these trusts. Believers try their hardest to return these
trusts to their rightful owners, the same way they handed them those trusts.

6. GUARD THEIR SALAH :

The Salah is mentioned by Allah as one of the essential traits of successful
Muslims in the following verse 9. Verse 2 alludes to the believers’ modesty during
reciting Salah, while verse 9 speaks of the individual prayers performed at their own
convenience. Believers are defined as those who adhere to the prescribed times
strictly, perform them with appropriate respect to their prerequisites, conditions and
objects, and do so while being clean both inside and out and executing the
obligatory ablution. The requirement for believers is that they not view their prayers
as a pointless chore to be completed mechanically, but rather they comprehend
them and realize that these believers are supplicating as humble slaves.
Thus, for believers guarding their salahs and performing them with all respect
should be the utmost responsibility.

7. REWARD :
Since the dawn of time, man has always been given two choices. He can
either spend his life in the right way i.e the way Allah has prescribed man to live or
he can choose the way that is not so bright in the end. After mentioning the
characteristics of the successful believers, Allah has given them the good news of
Firdous, which is the highest level of heaven. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) has said ;

“If you ask Allah for Paradise, then ask him for Firdous, for it is the highest
Part of Paradise, in the middle of Paradise, and from it spring the rivers of
Paradise, and above it is the mighty Throne of the most merciful.”

Abu Huraira has said that The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said ;

“ There if not one among you who does not have two homes; a home in
Paradise and a home in Hell. If he dies and enters Hell, the people of Paradise will
inherit his home”.
