Aim(s)

This module provides students with the practical skills and theoretical background to undertake
self-managed projects and to assist in the management of team projects; the emphasis is on
recognising the trend of the "software crisis" and problems of interdisciplinary technical teams. This
module aims to equip the student with knowledge and understanding on some of the potential
solutions to this crisis currently proposed for more effective management of projects involving
information systems.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

 Plan, monitor and control small scale technology projects.

 Determine the resource requirements of projects in a range of domains.
 Select and make use of appropriate software and approaches for project management
functions and estimate effort using modelling techniques.
 Critically evaluate the main theories and principles of software quality assurance and
metrics, software reuse and business process re-engineering.
