D. ABSTRACTION What is Speech Context?

Speech context is the way that people use to communicate and transmit
message orally or verbally using a particular context. The context refers to th
setting in which communication takes place and the person/s involved.
The context helps establish meaning and can influence what is said and how
said. Speech context can also be referred to as communication situation.

There are four types of speech contexts. They are:


1. Intrapersonal – Communication that centers in one person acting bot
the sender and the receiver of message. This can also be called “self-t
e.g. Talking to self in the mirror especially when faced with hard
decisions.
2. Interpersonal – Communication between and among people and
establishes personal relationships between and among them.
Types of Interpersonal Contexts
a. Dyad Communication – occurs between two people.
e.g. The doctor telling the patient about his findings.
b. Small Group – involves three but not more than twelve people
engaging in a face-to-face interaction working to achieve a desired
goal.
e.g. Yna, Mark, Raffy and Rose are discussing their trip to Duyong Gold
Beach next weekend.
3. Public – Communication that requires you to deliver a message befor
in front of the group. Unlike that of Interpersonal Contexts, channels h
are more exaggerated.
e.g. The politician is giving a speech to the people in the barangay.
4. Mass Communication – Communication that takes place through
television, radio, newspapers, magazines, books, billboards, internet a
other types of media.
e.g. The Covid-19 Information Bulletin on Facebook is always updated
as to give timely and reliable facts regarding our current situation.

Have them answer this question for each sample of speech context:
What appropriate verbal and non-verbal behavior should you employ given th
speech context presented?

Enrich the lesson:


Due to the pandemic, learners may be experiencing fatigue, diminished self-
esteem or self-worth and boredom. Have them watch this short cartoon. This
somehow uplift their spirits and realize within themselves self-love, acceptan
and positive self-image.

E. APPLICATION Let’s Work This Out! (Differentiated Instruction based on Indicator 2 in the CO
