31 21 088 Removing and installing left or 
right swivel bearing (all-wheel 
drive vehicle)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

l Remove front wheel.

Release collar bolt (1), press brake pedal to floor for this
purpose.
Tightening torque 31 60 2AZ.

Installation note:
l Renew collar bolt (1) and compression spring (2).
l Pay attention to direction of installation of
compression spring!
l Keep collar bolt and spur gearing of bearing/output
shaft clean and free of grease.

Important!
See installation note on spur gear at the end of 
the document.

Important!
Secure swivel bearing against falling out.

l Remove brake disc.


l Expose brake hose and cable on swivel bearing.
l Remove pulse sensor from swivel bearing.
l Remove lower wishbone from swivel bearing.
l Remove trailing link from swivel bearing
l Remove track rod end from swivel bearing.
l Remove upper wishbone from swivel bearing.
Remove swivel bearing.

Important!
Note on installation for spur gearing must be
observed without fail!

Installation note:
l Spur gearing of bearing (1) and output shaft (2)
must be installed form-fit (tooth in tooth)!
l Tighten collar bolt and compression spring by
hand.
l Check whether spur gearing is locked tooth in tooth
by reciprocally rotating wheel hub/output shaft.
l Once a form-fit has been ensured, tighten to final
torque.
Tightening torque 31 60 2AZ.
