Ladies and Gentlemen

First of all, let’s thank God, the Almighty who gives us the mercy and blessings till we can attend this
meeting without any obstacle in this special occasion.
Then, I will never forget to thank to the Chairman who has given me the opportunity to deliver my speech
which is entitled “global warming” in front of you.

Ladies and Gentlemen

We know global warming is a serious problem which has encountered our planet since the middle of 20th
century. Global Warming is mostly related to human activities. Most of our activities give big impact to the
earth. Take a simple example, when we are riding our motorcycle, we contribute for the air pollution which
is also one of several factors that support global warming. 

Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans. According to
a report by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global surface temperature increased 0.18
°C during the 20th century. 

The increasing of greenhouse gases is the main factor that improves the earth’s atmosphere temperature.
Greenhouse gases are the result of some human activities, such as the burning of fuel in the motorized
vehicle and also illegal logging. 

An increase in global temperature will cause sea levels to rise and will change the amount and pattern of
precipitation. The increasing temperature is supposed mostly happening in the Arctic and it can be related
to the retreat of glaciers and sea ice. Other effects include changes in the frequency and intensity of
extreme weather events, species extinctions, and changes in agricultural yields.

Ladies and Gentlemen

Global Warming and related changes will vary from region to region around the globe, though the nature of
these regional variations is uncertain. As a result of contemporary increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide,
the oceans have become more acidic; a result that is predicted to continue. 

In Indonesia, the most clear prove that global warming really existing is the extreme weather that has
happened since four or five years ago. The uncertain weather cannot be predicted as usual. Besides, we can
also find that in big cities, such Jakarta and Yogyakarta, the temperature is hotter in drought season. 

Indonesia which is located in around the equator line seems to get the biggest impact of the extreme
weather changing. In 1998, Indonesia has became the country with the hottest temperature and it may
continue in the future.

I think that’s all my speech. I hope my brief description on the global warming will be useful for us.

I am very happy because of this chance to stand together with these great people in this podium. Let us
thank God for giving health and valuable opportunity for being here.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Have you ever seen the students smoke? Have you ever seen the students truant? Have you ever seen the
students brawl? And have you ever heard of the students that involved in free sex?
I think all will be say “yes”. This means that moral attitudes of Indonesian teenagers have turned away from
the values and norms of the real the real Indonesia. Everyone involved in those bad things are students, the
young people who should have the best ethics because they have been educated through educational
institutions.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Why are all the things happen? Before you answer it, I want to express an opinion. In Indonesia, I see the
demand of academic value is so high. When the students get the higher score, parents, teachers, and all
those around the will be more proud of these achievements. It makes us all forget a really important thing,
the moral education.

Students continue to be encouraged for studying hard, but they are not given the opportunity to build a
social life, emotional intelligence, and spiritual. Every day, students are only given Mathematics, Science,
Language education, Physics, and Chemistry. All of those must be learned and memorized.

Because of too much academic material, students do not get a portion of moral education. As a result, they
are easily tempted to commit immoral acts and even criminality. They understand that the most important
is the score at the end of the test, but not includes attitudes in society.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Of course, we all very disappointed to see the moral of Indonesian students who are increasingly low and
are at the destruction. This should not be allowed to continue and must be addressed properly. It requires
the cooperation of all human parents, educators, and government in order to create the moral intelligence
decreases.

Let us create a learning system that is accompanied by moral exhortation, good behavior, and a discipline
that makes students not only have a high score, but also a good morality.

Do not give up, keep fighting, and be the noble of education.

Dear my friends who participates in this speech contest,
And my loving brothers and sisters
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent and the Merciful.
All praises be to Allah SWT, the lord of the world, the master of the day after, the creator of everything in
this Universe, where he has no partner. He has also given us such deeply enjoyable, particularly faith and
healthy comfort, hence, we could attend here in a good situation.
Peace and Salutation be upon our prophet Muhammad SAW, who has taught us the cardinal principles of
the unity of God, obliged us to confess it with the tongue and believe it in the heart. He also has brought us
from the darkness to the brightness, from stupidity to cleverness, in the other word “Minazzhulumaati
Ilannuur”
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Indeed, it is very great pleasure for me in this precious chance to deliver my speech to the most honorable
audiences entitled:
“THE IMPORTANCE OF MASTERING ENGLISH”
Before I am going to deliver the main point of my speech, I thank to the Education and Culture department
of Sukabumi regency, particularly to the committee of this- program who has invited our school to
participate in this contest.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Language plays an important role in human life. One tries to acquire, learn and use language as a means of
communication, and simultaneously as social symbol of humanity. By using language someone could make
statements, convey facts and knowledge, explain or report something, and keep social relations among the
language users. These indicate that by means of language, people can express their ideas, feeling,
information etc through communication.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
As one of language in the world, English is considered and applied as international language. Since then, it
is very popular and have been spoken and learnt by almost people in the world. There are some reasons
why English is important and many people attempt to learn it. Some of them are: for finding job, traveling,
interacting one each other, doing business, taking examination, doing research, writing in the foreign
language, etc.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
In such developing country like Indonesia, English has a vital role in all aspects of life, particularly in science
and technology. Furthermore, it can be used for developing relationships in the international forum, for
reading English book (especially for students from primary school up to colleges/university), to tighten the
relationship among nations in the world, etc. As students, we learn English are intended to obtain various
knowledge, to comprehend and understand the textbooks learned in English, to gain knowledge and skills,
and to be ready enter to the university, as one of the test requirements for students of senior High School
(SMA), etc. Looking at the above important roles of English, that is why English is very important to
understand and to master by every people throughout the world since before.
My brothers and sisters!
At the end of my speech, I will quote a wise expression: “ENGLISH WILL MAKE EVERYBODY SURVIVE AND
GO ANYWHERE”. This expression reminds us how importance of English for human life is. As global or
universal language, English is not only enables us to communicate and interact with every people
throughout the world, but also it could alter our life to be better. Furthermore, we also must be aware that
the western countries play extra ordinary role in developing and keeping science and technology. Thus, if
we want to be a skilful scientists, linguists, and be able to compete with the other countries in the world,
we must understand, master and learn the language they use, namely English.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Before ending this speech, let me conclude the essential points of my speech:
1. English is highly necessary to be learned and mastered by everyone, in order to be able to compete in
the globalization era;
2. English is a key to open and master science and technology, because most of scientists write their
experts and inventions in English.
3. As students of high school (SMA), we have to prepare ourselves by learning hard, particularly English as
well as the other subjects at school;
4. By mastering English enables us to become survive and go anywhere throughout the world;
Goethe (a Greek philosopher) have ever said:
“Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do” and remember:”
Remember: Language indicates Nation. And Don’t Forget “English is a bridge for the future”
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I think it’s completely enough for me to this point. The wrong utterances are caused by limitation of my
ability and the right one is merely from Allah SWT. So, I beg your pardon and finally I say…

My loving brothers and sisters
First of all, let’s thank Allah the almighty for he has been giving us mercy and blessing until we can
attend this meeting without any obstacles in this happy place and time.
Secondly, may shalawat and salam be with our holy prophet Muhammad Saw who has guided us
from the darkness to the lightness in this world as well as in the next world. Because only because of his
effort we can enjoy the education at this time.
And I’ll never forget to thank Mr. Chairman who has given me opportunity to deliver my speech in
front of this public.
Standing in front of you all, I would like to present my speech under the title “THE IMPORTANT OF
ADDING ENGLISH IN EDUCATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF OUR COUNTRY”

Ladies and gentlemen

Indonesia, as we know is a country that has been developing from bad history. History gives a very
big effect in the globalization. That is in the advancement of our country. Being sacrifice of the colony
makes technology and economy development in Indonesia still at the backward.
Education is one of many important things to help fastening economy and technology development
in our country. Science is the key of the advancement of all countries all the world. Because before
technology appeared, knowledge was the first thing that’s appearing a lot of ideas, until the technology was
created. And along with the development of science, technology even continuously develops until we can
find the technology that we use at this time.
Science is the key of the advancement of a country. Then a question appears,”HOW TO GET
KNOWLEDGE?”. The answer is only by Education. Education is a tool to get knowledge. Because no matter
how great you are, you will not be able to get knowledge without EDUCATION!
If we talk about education, we will also realize about how important the language is in study and
learning process. Without mastering language, it’s impossible for us to do the process of education well.
The ability to state opinion, to understand the words and to response the other’s opinion are some
examples of understanding language. All of them are included as study and learning process in education.
So is learning foreign language important for the sake of the advancement of education in Indonesia?
Absolutely. Mastering foreign language is very important for the quality of education in Indonesia,
especially English. Because English is an International language which is learned and used in almost all of
the countries in the world. Because of that, there would be many problems appear when a country doesn’t
include English as one of the lessons in study and learning process. That’s why English is learned from
Elementary School up to University.
The education in Indonesia or the other countries in the world is also much related to the importance
of the book. If we treat the education like a gun, then the book would be the missile. Where a gun wouldn’t
be useful without the missile, and on the contrary, the missile wouldn’t also be useful without the gun.
That’s what the education and the book look like.
Ladies and gentlemen
There are so many books whose language English that have not been translated into Indonesian.
These are the books from the scientists who wrote their expert and invention only in English. If we use only
the book whose language is Indonesia in education process, we will lack of knowledge because everything
that we get is only from Indonesian book. Means that we must learn English to maximize our knowledge for
the sake of the development of our education.
If only English was not learned in Indonesia, it’s impossible that Indonesian people could speak
English. As a consequence, our country would have decrease and would be the matter of other countries’
discussion. In fact, it’s indeed that English must be said important. For example if we work in a hotel, a
bank, a harbor, an airplane and the others, we need to master English to communicate with the guests.
Further more, if our president and his translator couldn’t speak English, our Country wouldn’t ever join the
meeting among the countries the entire world, because the language that they use is English.
Seeing such bad examples, thinking about the cause, it must be because of education. In the other
words, shortly, the education in Indonesia and all countries over the world will not be called has good
quality if there is no English subject on the lesson list. Once again, it’s because of English is an International
language which is very important for the development of our country.
Remembering how important English is, there have been many ways that have been made to make
us able to learn it faster, whether it’s formal like a school or non formal like course or autodidact. Even
there are so many education places that make something like games to make students interested and
understand English faster. Some competitions are often also held for the sake of increasing the ability of
students in English, like English debate, English speech, etc. All of these ways are only for the quality of the
education of our country.
Ladies and gentlemen
Before ending this speech, let me conclude the essential points of my speech:
1. Knowledge is the key of the development of a country
2. Without education we wouldn’t get knowledge
3. The education in Indonesia wouldn’t be said has a good quality without English on the schedule.
Finally I hope all of my explanations have made us understand that English as an International
language is very important for the development of our education.

The Role of Islamic Students in Globalization Era

As we know well that globalization is an era marked by missing the territorial limit of nation. It enables the
nation culture interferences. So that, politics, economy, culture of nation can influence, color and inspire of
the other nations policies.

Globalization gives not only positive effects of the rapid science, information and technology development
but also brings about many religion and culture principle divergences of the nation. Those become the cause
of a drop in autonomy and identity of the nation.

Happy brothers and sisters!

Let’s pay attention more on what happened in our surroundings at present! Free sex, pornography, alcoholic
drink and drugs become youth customs in this country. Most of them always imitate what becomes “up to
date” without filtering and thinking before. And they never make balance between thought and desire,
planning and implementation and between ability and action. In addition, they do not preserve the Islamic
laws because they think that religion is the symbol only whereas, youth is the generation next of this country.
So how this country’s future is if most of them get a drop in their moral values?.

Consequently, we are the next generation of this country; we have to keep ourselves by faith, beliefs and
piety in facing the globalization era. And we have to be aware of conserving the Islamic laws. Moreover we
are the Islamic students have obligation to fight against the weakness of our beloved nation.

Moslem brothers and sisters!

We should not keep silent when we know the negative changes that happen in our society because of
globalization era. As Islamic students we ought to become figures in anticipating the negative effects of this
global era.

Allah state in the noble Quran; (Waltakum minkum ummatan yad’una ilal khoiri wa ya’muruna bil
ma’rufi wa yanhauna ‘anil munkar, wa ulaaika humul muflihuun)

Meaning: let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining alma’ruf and
forbidding almunkar and those who are the successful man.

Dear brothers and sisters!

The Islamic students with their moral forces and Islamic studies must be proactive to guide what is and what
globalization era is for and the purpose of it. So that, let’s hope for the best. They become the public figures
and they can color the social and cultural lives of their society in achieving the goal. That’s good Moslem is a
good country.
