jumpers
Up to 50,000V AC(L), 100,000V DC(M) or both(N)
Allows Testing to ASTM D120, F496 and IEC 60903 Standards
The L, M and N Series is The VON Corporation’s fully automated, microprocessor controlled
glove and sleeve tester. Units allow testing of Gloves, Sleeves, or Line Jumpers. All standard
rubber goods can be tested, even class IV. All machine adjustments are controlled via a
menu operated microprocessor control system. With a single selection the test voltage,
current limit, depth, water fill level, test time, blower speed and exhaust fan speed are set.
The operator is required to merely load gloves in the special clothespins, lower the test
electrode into the glove and press the start button. Automated water fillers will fill the glove
in less than 30 seconds. Tests are timed and an audible alarm sounds failures or test
complete, with bright flashing colored lights signaling which position failed, or test complete.
The –W option allows use of the VON Hammock method on all positions. An extra wide and
long tank allows testing of the sholder portion of sleeves and allows 11” spacing between
sleeves.
The NEW VON microprocessor control system provides the user with a menu based system to
select which type (class, length, new or retest) of glove is to be tested. With this single
selection, all system settings including test voltage, current limit, glove depth, water fill level,
test time, blower speed and exhaust fan speed are set. This eliminates any chance for
operator error and provides an extremely fast changeover from one class to another.
Current readings for all postions are conveniently displayed on the control panel, and the
peak current during the test is saved on screen for easy record keeping.

The GM022 will manually test one or two lineman's gloves or sleeves. The center to center spacing is 9 inches
to accommodate 40 K.V. gloves.

GLOVE TESTING: The one piece slave will simultaneously test one or two lineman's gloves or sleeves which connected to a high
voltage D.C. supply such as the VON Model C-1. The center to center spacing is 9 inches to accommodate Class IV gloves which are
tested at 70,000 volts D.C. Clothespin type holders are provided which do not pinch the gloves. The same holders are used for testing
both straight and curved sleeves.

SLEEVE TESTING: The machine is capable of testing all standard sleeves using the sling method, the hammock method, and with
additional accessories by the straight method using a dielectric liquid in accordance with the latest ASTM D1051 and F496 standards.
The tank is 22 inches deep so that the dielectric liquid can be left in the tank when testing 18 inch gloves. The tank is 26" long so that
2 curved sleeves can be tested simultaneously by the straight method. One sleeve can be tested by the hammock method.

VOLTAGE: The input voltage is 120 volt 60 hertz A.C. single phase 10 amps for the blowers and the motor operated automatic
grounding system. A shielded high voltage RG-8U lead is provided to connect to the external HV power supply. The test voltage is
raised and lowered by the operator turning the variable autotransformer at the specified rate of approximately 3 kilovolt D.C. a second.
Fault detection and current metering is provided by the external power supply.

HIGH VOLTAGE TEST TANK: The tank is constructed of stainless steel for corrosion protection. A valve is provided in the bottom
of the tank to drain the water to clean the tank. The tank is filled to the proper level. Using a pitcher, water is taken from the tank to
fill the gloves and put back in at the end of the test.

VENTILATION: 100 cfm of air flow is directed toward the gloves/sleeves to help dry any water that spills on the gloves and to
prevent the water drops from going up the glove at 70kv. An exhaust fan in the rear of the cabinet pulls air across the surface of the
water.

ENCLOSURE: The unit consists of a free standing cabinet 30" wide x 22" deep x 79" tall. The loading door is interlocked with a
motor operated resistive discharge device.

OPERATION: The operator opens the hinged loading door to remove a clothes pin and electrode assembly from the high voltage bus.
He checks to see if the clothes pins are fastened to electrode in the position that will give the proper cuff to water line distance for the
test voltage. He adjusts the cuff to water line distance by changing the location of the clothes pins on the electrode using the
thumbscrew adjustment. He then hangs the glove by the clothes pins. The glove with its clothes pin and electrode assembly is hung
on the HV bus. Water is then taken from the test tank and put into the glove until the inside is filled to the correct water level using a
plastic pitcher. Then a glove is loaded into the second clothes pin and electrode assembly. When testing only one glove, the second
clothes pin and electrode assembly may be hung from a hook in the upper right corner of the unit.

After loading the gloves or sleeves, the operator closes the loading door. The limit switch turns on the blower and operates the
solenoid which removes the resistive ground from the HV bus.

The operator then moves to the external HV supply and removes its discharge device. The external supply is turned on and the
voltage raised to the desired test level by turning up the autotransformer. After timing the test, the voltage is lowered by the operator.
If a glove fails the external power supply circuit breaker will trip out. The faulted glove can be determined by running the power
supply up until there is high but steady current and looking into the viewing window to determine the faulted glove by the bubbles
created at the fault. The faulted glove can also be determined by removing one glove and checking each glove individually.

ENCLOSURE: The TGM series consist of a free standing cabinet 22" deep x 79" tall. The TGM-022 is 30” wide, the TGM-024 is
48” wide and the TGM-026 is 66” wide, The loading door is interlocked with a motor operated fail-safe discharge device.

Using a plastic pitcher, water is taken from the test tank and put into the glove until the inside is filled to the correct
water level. Then a glove is loaded into the second clothes pin and electrode assembly. When testing only one glove, the second
clothes pin and electrode assembly may be hung from a hook in the upper right corner of the unit.

After loading the gloves or sleeves, the operator closes the loading door.

The operator then chooses the types of gloves to be tested from the menu based system controller. By pressing the START button, the
unit will automatically turn the fans on, raise the high voltage, maintain the voltage for the specified length of time, and lower the
voltage after the test. If a glove fails the unit will automatically indicate a failure and shut down the power supply. The faulted glove
can be determined by removing one glove and checking each glove individually, or checking each glove for holes with an inflation
test.

CAPACITY: The TSM four drawer machine will automatically and simultaneously test four or eight insulated blankets at voltages to
50,000 volts A.C. or 70kV DC, depending on purchased options. The SP series is a four drawer machine that will provide the same
tests when slaved to a master rubber goods testing machine, dependent on that master’s high voltage capabilities. These machines are
capable of testing blankets as large as 46" x 46". With the proper electrodes all standard insulating rubber protective blankets may be
tested in accordance with the latest ASTM D1048 and F479 standards.

VOLTAGE: The input voltage is 120/240 volt A.C. single phase. The TSM series has 0-50,000 volts A.C. test voltage provided by a
12kva continuous duty transformer. The TSM-DC series has 0-80,000 volt D.C. supply. The TSM-ACDC series contains both
supplies and a transfer switch for changing between the high voltage supplies. The test voltage is measured by means of a resistive
divider connected directly across the high voltage circuit. An LCD diplays the output voltage both digitally and with a bar graph. The
test voltage is raised and lowered with a special solid state device at a rate of approximately 1 kilovolt A.C. or 3 kilovolt D.C. a
second.

CURRENT: The current of each being being tested is continuously monitored by the microprocessor control system. The active
current leakage as well as the peak current is displayed on an LCD display both digitally and with a bar graph.
VENTILATION: One 1600 cfm exhaust fan is provided in the top rear of the blanket testing cabinet to remove ozone.

ENCLOSURE: Eyebolts are provided in the top for lifting by a crane. An interlocked front access door is provided in the power
supply and control area.

CONTROLS:A menu based system provides all controls from the front control panel. All standard tests come predefined for the user.
These predefined tests set all the machines settings and automatically run the test on the specified class of blanket. There are also 4
user defined test modes available, as well as a mode for manual control of the entire system.

INDICATORS: All LED light indicators operate in a fail safe mode by being lighted at all times. The lights flash when indicating. A
red "HIGH VOLTAGE FAILURE" light is provided on each drawer. A red " FAIL" light and a green "TEST COMPLETE" light are
provided on the control panel. The LCD current display shows the current leakage current, as well as saving the peak current. After a
failure the LCD display also indicates which blankets failed.

OPERATION: A blanket is loaded into each drawer to be tested. The top electrode in each drawer is lowered into position when its
toggle switch is turned to the "TEST" position. The operator selects the voltage class to be tested from the menu, and pushes the
"START" button. From one to four blankets as selected by the operator will be simultaneously tested. Eight position machines allow
alternate loading of two two sets of four drawers.

The automatic high voltage cycle includes raising and lowering the voltage to the setpoint, automatic timing of the test, and automatic
visual and audible indication of blanket pass or fail. A blanket which fails will stop the test, cause a steady audible signal, indicate
which drawer has failed, and discharge any remaining voltage..

The surface of the blanket testing drawer is made of ozone resistant plastic with a non-tracking coating. This permits both the top and
bottom electrodes to be the similar size so that the maximum area of the blanket can be tested. The aluminum electrodes are held in
position by locating pins. The drawer is the grounded electrode. The high voltage electrode is mounted on a movable insulating
frame. One size of electrode is provided with each drawer. Unless specified electrodes are provided for testing 36" x 36" blankets
rated Class I to Class III. For other sizes and ratings please specify the blanket size, shape, and voltage class. Additional electrodes

CAPACITY: The TVM machine will automatically and simultaneously test six 14 foot sticks at voltages to 100,000 volts A.C. or
100kV DC, depending on purchased options (80kV AC and/or 100kV DC Standard).

VOLTAGE: The input voltage is 120/240 volt A.C. single phase. The TVM series has 0-80,000 volts or 0-100,000 volts A.C. test
voltage provided by a continuous duty transformer. The TVM-DC series has 0-100,000 volt D.C. supply. The test voltage is
measured by means of a resistive divider connected directly across the high voltage circuit. An LCD diplays the output voltage both
digitally and with a bar graph. The test voltage is raised and lowered with a special solid state device at a rate of approximately 3
kilovolts per second.

CURRENT: High Voltage and Return Current positions are alternated every 1 foot. The current of each section being being tested is
continuously monitored by the microprocessor control system. The active current leakage is displayed on an LCD display both
digitally. A special guard system is used to eliminate capacitive currents when testing with AC, allowing microampere level current
measurements of the resisitve current through the stick. This allows testing to meet IEEE 978 in a minimum one minute test, without
resorting to the 5 minute heating test. Additionally, there is a circuit to check for a short circuited electrode.

VENTILATION: Three exhaust fans are provided in the top rear of the blanket testing cabinet to remove ozone.

ENCLOSURE: Eyebolts are provided in the top for lifting by a crane.

CONTROLS: A menu based system provides all controls from the front control panel. All
standard tests come predefined for the user. These predefined tests set all the machines
settings and automatically run the test on the live line tool. There are also 4 user defined test
modes available, as well as a mode for manual control of the entire system.

INDICATORS: All LED light indicators operate in a fail safe mode by being lighted at all
times while active. The lights flash when indicating. A red "HIGH VOLTAGE FAILURE"
light is provided on each current measurement point. A red " FAIL" light and a green "TEST
COMPLETE" light are provided on the control panel. The LCD current display shows the
current leakage current, as well as saving the peak current. After a failure the LCD display
also indicates which position failed.

OPERATION: The sticks are loaded into the tester. The act of loading the sticks wraps the
electrode around them. Care must be taken around metallic hardware, to prevent flashovers.
Insulation of hardware, or removal of electrode positions may be required, depending on the
sticks loaded and their hardware. The operator selects the test setting from the menu, and
pushes the "START" button.

The automatic high voltage cycle includes raising and lowering the voltage to the setpoint,
automatic timing of the test, and automatic visual and audible indication of pass or fail. A stick which fails will stop the test, cause a
steady audible signal, indicate which position has failed, and discharge any remaining voltage. A red flashing light is provided both at
the current meter and at the position which failed, to allow quick determination of the failed portion.

The VON XV Series of VLF test equipment is designed to meet all of you
needs for VLF testing of underground cables. VLF has been recognized by
industry as an alternative test method to the traditional high voltage DC
hipot test. VLF is designed to provide similar stresses to a 50/60 Hz AC
test, without the extremely high power and equipment requirements of such
a test.

VLF is specified as a 0.1 Hz or slower sinusoidal wave shape. At 0.1 Hz,

every cycle takes 10 seconds. The XV series will apply the voltage with a
microprocessor controlled power supply, which will raise the voltage in the
shape of a sinusoid in the first quarter cycle. The system will then
discharge the cable with a microprocessor controlled, fully variable discharge system. At the zero crossing the
system reverses polarity, and repeats the processes. Our fully variable discharge system allows us to reduce
power consumption, and maintain a true sinusoid without distortion across the full range of loads.

The VON XV Series is designed to be easily portable, or permanently mounted in a vehicle. Systems can also
be mounted in a vehicle in such a way as to allow them to be removed to access test sites that cannot be
accessed by vehicle. Portable systems are designed in one piece with an integrated hand trucks. This allows
one person to easily move the entire system over rough terrain to access the test location. The system is
designed to allow easy loading and unloading from any standard truck. Runners are provided for sliding the
unit into small trucks and vans, and a lifting point is provided for taller vehicles such as aerial lift trucks.

Sphere Gap Voltmeter
6.25cm and 12.5cm

VON sphere gap voltmeters are constructed to

achieve the maximum attainable accuracy and
meet the specifications of IEEE #4 "Techniques for
Dielectric Test." Using the appropriate table in IEEE
#4 the gaps are considered to be accurate with
+3% with A.C. and +5% with D.C. The 6.25cm
sphere gap covers the range of voltage most
commonly used.

For calibration checks the 6.25cm sphere gap is

suitable to 78kv. For over voltage protection the
6.25cm sphere gap may be used to 115kv. In
operation the one megohm resistor assembly is
always mounted on top of the sphere gap in series
with the gap to prevent specimen damage and
pitting of the spheres

Sphere gaps are unexcelled for achieving

accurate over voltage protection for test
specimens. The gap is always connected to the
guard circuit of a VON tester so it does not affect
the leakage reading of the test specimen. The
gap is set to spill over just at the maximum voltage
(usually 3 to 15kv above the highest test voltage).
When this maximum voltage is reached the gap
will spill over with a relatively soft arc that will not
subject the specimen to damaging pulses. The arc
serves to warn the test operator of his error by
tripping the test set out or by draining off current
from the system faster than the test set can supply
it. This reduces the voltage on the specimen. After
such a spill over, the voltage must be reduced to
the deionizing voltage of the gap before the test
can resume

Note: Daily use of this monitor does not eliminate the need to perform periodic over-voltage tests on aerial lift devices.
The absolute minimum recommended over-voltage test should be a DC test of 2.1 times the line to ground exposure or
an AC test of 1.5 times the line to ground exposure.

Improved sensitivity of test over AC Testers

Model C-1

The VON Corporation manufactures a complete line of Aerial Lift Test Sets. The model C-1 is the most
popular unit for distribution class trucks (Category C and Category A&B to 69kV).
Its 100kV output allows for testing of all Category C trucks and the largest bucket
liners. The use of DC allows testing of even the largest bucket liners without
purchasing extra large and heavy testers required of AC testers. All VON testers are
RATED FOR CONTINUOUS DUTY at full power, allowing continuous operation
without concern for damaging the tester, unlike many competitive units.

The model C-1.5+ provides for testing of category A&B trucks up to the 138kV class.
C series topping units can be used to extended testing up to cover even 500kV trucks.

DC testing of Aerial Lift provides several distinct advantages over AC testing. While
leakage currents are similar for both methods, AC units have to provide for capacitive coupling currents that
greatly affect the readings. These capacitive coupling currents can mask a dirty or defective boom that would
be detected by DC. These currents also require AC units to have very high output ratings (5kVA-15kVA) as
opposed to DC units, which are typically 500W, or less.
