At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
1. Define literary criticism;
2. Criticize a certain literary piece using formalist and/or structuralist approach.

III. PROCEDURES
Preliminary activities
1. Greetings
2. Prayer
The teacher will ask a student to lead the prayer.
3. Checking of attendance
The teacher will ask the students if there are absents
Review
The teacher will ask the students regarding the previous topic which is about
argumentative essay.
Motivation
The teacher will introduce a game named “Unjumble Me”
The students will try to guess and unjumbled the letters being presented by the
teacher.
The students who are able to guess the jumbled letters will be rewarded.
Discussion proper
The teacher will define literary criticism.
The teacher will introduce the main topic about literary approaches.
The teacher will discuss formalist and structuralist approach.
Generalization
The students will be asked the following questions:
1. What is literary criticism?
2. What is formalist approach in literary criticism?
3. How about the structuralist approach?
IV. EVALUATION
Read the selection entitled “The Necklace” by Guy de Maupassant and
identify the elements presented (characters, settings, plot, theme, and point of
view)
