Mock Interview Reflection - AA
After going through the Quinncia feedback, I have realized two very important points that I
need to work on: Pace of speaking and Eye contact.
Pace of Speaking: I have realized that answers need to be paced out and I should
collect my thoughts before speaking. After reviewing my answers, one thing that
became evident to me was that the enunciation of every single word is very important
to communicate my message.
Eye Contact: Sometimes, while thinking or gathering my thoughts I tend to look
away from the screen which breaks the involvement I have with the interviewer. I
need to continuously look into the screen while having a small smile on my face to
create a long-lasting impact. Even under stress, this is important as it will portray my
skills in stress management and staying calm under pressure.
One important thing about the “Tell me about yourself” question which struck me was that
even though I highlighted my past, present, and future I did not do so by highlighting any
critical projects or achievements. If I had done so, this could have been a strong point for
follow-up conversations leading to a natural flow of conversation. Another important thing is
to follow the STAR method, while answering the question I need to provide examples as this
will allow the interviewer to gain a deeper perspective on my work experience and ethic.
After looking at my answers, I became very conscious which led to me not being able to first
add examples, and when I did that there was a lack of quantification.
There are also some questions on which I should focus on my professional life rather than my
personal. This distinction of identifying questions, I believe will come from practice and
research about a particular industry, position, and company.
I also analyzed that in questions regarding education, I should highlight extra skills that I
possess or am planning on gaining which will help me in my future and related to the
position. This will be a plus point for the employer.
I have realized that even though there are certain minute things I might not think are crucial,
they accumulate to be a major part of the interview process and can change the perception of
the interviewer. I have noted down these things and plan to continuously work on them and
do in-depth research on the company and role before every interview.
