Title of the Artwork: TOWER OF BABEL
Name of Artist: PIETER BRUEGEL THE ELDER (1525-1569)
Date of Artwork Completion: 1563

This painting was based on Genesis 11: 1–9, in which the Lord frustrates those who
started to construct "a tower whose top may reach towards Heaven," it includes–as the other
version does not–the scene of King Nimrod and his retinue appearing before the genuflecting
crowd of labourers. Despite not being referenced in the Bible, this incident is alluded to in
Flavius Josephus' Antiquities of the Jews.
Title of the Artwork: HUNTERS IN THE SNOW
Name of Artist: PIETER BRUEGEL THE ELDER (1525-1569)
Date of Artwork Completion: 1565

Hunters in the Snow's message is simply that man is an insignificant, helpless being
who is at the mercy of the cyclical nature of the seasons. The inference is that the only thing
that can give us purpose and solace is faith in the Creator and the natural order (divine
order). This is a subdued work of religious art that, like a lot of 16th and 17th century
Netherlandish art, offers a very commonplace (even secular) context for its message.
Title of the Artwork: FAMILY REUNION
Name of Artist: FREDERIC BAZILLE (1841-70)
Date of Artwork Completion: 1867

With whom Bazille shared studios, Renoir and Monet were good friends. He was
especially impressed by their outdoor paintings. He set up his easel on the terrace of the
family home in Meric, near Montpellier, during the summer of 1867, under the large
chestnut tree. The River Lez flows through a gorge that separates Meric from the charming
settlement of Castelnau, which was visible from there. All of his family members are shown
in Family Reunion, also known as Family Portraits. His father and mother are seen in the
foreground sitting on a bench; his cousin Camille des Hours is seated next to the young Marc
Bazille on the parapet of the terrace; and his maternal aunt Madame des Hours is seated at
the round table with her daughter Therese. On the far left is his uncle des Hours, who is
standing; behind him can be seen, partially hidden, the tall silhouette of the artist who
painted him.

Title of the Artwork: “SIWAK”

Description: The artwork depicts a man holding a lamp while watching the dawn of the day
as the darkness of night arise. In the same manner, this tells us that in life, even if time
comes that opportunity won’t find its way for us, we, ourselves could look for that path, light
that path so that we could achieve our destiny in life. Life is full of struggles and pain, there
will be times that you will find yourself in the corner of darkness, but with the help of the
people who loves you, you will still find that light to rise above the darkness. For in life, all
you need is a comrade that will be your light and you as light to them as well. You are the
very own bearer of your torch towards success. Keep it igniting and don’t let it die.
