RECRUITMENTS SYSTEM IN TAJ HOTEL

o The taj group of hotels recruitment system, longer training,

emphasis on customer centric behaviour and respect for
elders while hiring.
o They encourage their staff to improvise rather than do things
by book are the main reasons.
o The workers of taj hotel in Mumbai acted the way they did
and save lives of about 1200-1500 guests escape on a night
when 31 people including 11 hotel employees died and 28
were killed. The study of the organizational culture and
leadership in taj hotel and how hotel staff took charge in
crisis situation led from the front to ensure safety of guest
first and then colleagues.
o Taj prefers to hire workers from smaller cities rather than
metros.
o It hires young people often out of high schools who displays
three traits: respect for elders, cheerfulness and neediness.

o At workers level they chose candidates and they are trained

at one of the six residential taj group skill certification instead
of industry standard of 12 months.
o At managerial level, the company recruit from the lower b
schools as they find MBA graduates from these institutes
want to build career with a single company and tend to fit in
better with customer-centric culture.
o No one was trained in situation like “taj terror attack” despite
of that their staff displayed leadership skills and form human
chains around guest to ensure their safety.
o One of the best examples which include frontline personnel
who had lost family, friends and colleagues during terror
attack- (taj manager, karambir kang)
o The underlying principle of “athithi devo bhava” was so
beautifully showcased by the employees of taj.

o Employees share a deep connection and a sense of pride for

being associated with the legend taj hotel.
