This document contains a student's responses to questions about the importance of nursing informatics in BS Nursing and what makes nursing informatics challenging.
The student explains that nursing informatics is important because technology is integral to modern healthcare, allowing nurses to efficiently track patient information, make clinical decisions, and monitor patients using health IT systems. However, nursing informatics can be challenging for students due to unfamiliar technical terminology and concepts. A lack of proper resources at the student's school to learn about healthcare devices adds further difficulty. Adjusting to electronic documentation from traditional handwritten records also poses a challenge for some nurses.

What do you think Nursing Informatics is important in BS Nursing?
Living in a world that is supported by the technology is really amazing. With the continued modernization and innovations of technology everything becomes easy, from accessing information on the internet, taking updates on social media and of course to knowing the lates trends and issues inside and outside the country. With these changes driven by technologies the nursing field also improves. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how crucial and difficult the work of nurses is. Working long hours on the front lines at healthcare institutions including long-term care facilities, hospitals, and doctors' offices, as well as in homes, is a regular part of a career in this vital sector. To fulfill these obligations and raise the bar of care, nursing informatics provides strong resources. To keep track of patient information and direct clinical decision-making, hospitals and other healthcare-related businesses have implemented more sophisticated health information technology. These complex tools are used by experts in nursing informatics to support critical tasks like making diagnoses, creating care plans, delivering treatments, and instructing patients and their families. According to Robert Wood Johnson study it showed that less than 20% of nursing time is spent on patient care activities and only 7% is spent on patient observation and assessment. Meaning most of the time the patient stays in the hospital where medical equipment is their guide that helps monitor their health and overall condition. We can really say that electronic equipment at the bedside of the patients can provide safe, high quality and patient centered care in hospitals and facilities that is why nursing informatics is much more beneficial in BSN nursing and healthcare field.
What makes Nursing Informatics challenging?
As a student nurse that has a basic knowledge when it comes to how computer works, and other electronic devices used in the hospital the world of nursing informatics might be really challenging for me. there are a lot of technical terminologies that I am not familiar with but I think with the help of our teacher Mr. Palasin I can assure that I will gain much knowledge about nursing informatics that will help me more confident in working with come of the equipment use at the hospital most especially at the bed side of the patient, I hope that I can provide quality care for them with the support of those electronic devices to help them alleviate the pain they feel and to improve their over all health. Nursing documentation has always been a handwritten summary of how the nurse met her obligations under the law and professionally. This documentation method has been developed to offer the patient a plan of care, a way to receive payment from health insurances, analysis of the patient's care, a resource for education and research, and the legal record of the patient's medical status. The technique of documenting nursing care is changing drastically right now. This is partly a result of the enormous amount of medical knowledge that has been produced. That is why there are a lot of nurses still adjusting to the electronic phase of their work. Another thing that makes nursing informatics challenging is for example our school lacks resources needed to learn the concepts of every device that we must learn. As far as I know there is no computer laboratory in our conah building the only thing available is the nursing skills lab where there are few machines present but not sure if they are still working and can be use of our nursing practice so that it will become easier for us to be familiarize to those machines so that at the time of our hospital exposure we have the confidence to analyze the patient health record, their current status by monitoring their data through the computer and also monitoring their health condition on the bedside monitor.
