Uwais Al Qarni
Uwais Al Qarni
Uwais Al Qarni
In the name of Allah swt, The Most gracious and The Most Merciful.
Who is Uwais Al-Qarni? Have you ever heard about Uwais Al-Qarni?
I truly believe that each one of us knows who is Uwas Al-Qarni? Let
us know more deeper about a person who is technically not a
companion of Rasulullah because he did not physically meet or see
Rasulullah. But this individual was very dear to the heart and soul of
1
Rasulullah, much more than those who were physically close to
Rasulullah and he loved him and spoke about him.
There are certain matters which come to mind when we speak about
Owais:
This is one very important aspects in the life of Owais. He took full
responsibility for his mother and could not leave her to go to Madina
to meet Rasulullah.
2
that he should not remain there. He should return to Yemen after
meeting Rasulullah. He was jubilant by his mother honouring his plea
and agreed.
Once Owais departs Yemen for Madina, Rasulullah was not there. He
was travelling. What an anti-climax for Owais, who was bitterly
disappointed naturally. Owais is now at a crossroads. What must he
do? He promised his mother that he will not stay. So he returned to
Yemen, but first asked where the house of Rasulullah is.
Rasulullah returns to Madina from his travel and asks if there were
guests to visit him during his absence. His companions replied that
there was a man from Yemen who came to meet him, but was
compelled to leave due to his commitments with his mother. They
informed Rasulullah that he conveyed his choicest greetings and
salaams.
3
Rasulullah (SAWA) replies that he knows this man who left his Nur
for them before going back to Yemen! This is the caliber of Owais in
the eyes of Rasulullah!
They say that Owais would wear the most basic clothing which could
not even cover his body properly. The legacy of Owais is one of
spiritual empowerment and development. He was totally divorced
from this unreliable Dunya. The temptations from worldly pursuits
could not overpower him.
4
Ladies and gentlemen,
This Hadith is truly amazing! Rasulullah told the people that Owais is
truly unique. He explained his position by saying that Owais is the
one who will be stopped at the door of Jannah on the Day of
Judgement because he will need to intercede for many people and
take them along with him to Paradise!
The Hadith explains that Owais will be able to plead for the amount
of people equivalent to the 2 huge tribes of Madina! SubhanaAllah!
Owais relocated with his mother to Madina for a short while, after the
passing away of Rasulullah. He then moved to Kufa where he spent
most of this period in his life with his mother. People conveyed the
salaams and best greetings of Rasulullah to Owais when they met
him.

Prophet Muhammad and one of the greatest companions, Umar ibn al-
Khattab.
Prophet Muhammad once said there are some people from this nation
who are disheveled, lack money, and social status, but if they take an
oath by God, God will surely honor that oath. There are many fables
and unsubstantiated tales linked to Uwais al-Qarni, however, there are
also some authenticated stories that boost our faith and make us want
to behave more like this simple man of relatively low social status.
There are many traditions and stories about Uwais; many have not
been authenticated, but all of them highlight his humbleness and
simple living. Reading the story of Uwais prompts us to ask
ourselves, how did Uwais attain such a high status that even the
companions were told to seek forgiveness from him? He was dutiful
to his mother. He also suffered from a chronic condition that severely
affected his life, but he was patient. In short, his character was one
that every believer should strive to emulate.

As conclusion, Uwais Al-Qarni was a young man who was not
famous, poor, and had a skin disease. No one knew him and even his
name was never known. But, he is a young man who was once
mentioned by the Prophet SAW as a young man who is very loved by
Allah and famous in heaven.
That’s all from me. May Allah bless us all. Thank you for lending me
your ears.
