enjoying my time at IUSB, and have been working rather hard at it. When I chose my major, it
was a bit of an impulse decision at the time, but I haven't had a reason to change it yet and have
been enjoying everything I have done so far. I currently have my 5 year plan like so:
First I will take 3 more years to finish out my Bachelors degree in order to graduate from
IUSB. Then I intend on getting a job in a business firm hopefully making enough money in order
to save up and to move out of my parents house and live on my own. Hopefully by then I will be
in a semi-stable relationship, and then hopefully will being working to make it a serious one to
help make a balance of a work home life. I also will be aiming for a job in order to be able to
afford to do all the things that I want to be able to do in my freetime including travel.
I got the results of O'net's skills inventory and the results are as follows:
2
My highest score was Artistic, which means that people with this as their highest score is
best in a job with artistic themes, like acting, music, art, etc. But I am not aiming for a career in
these fields, I am leaving that to stuff to do in my free time, now my second highest score is in
conventional, which is almost the exact opposite of artistic in that I work well with things that
follow a set of rules or procedures, which is something accounting is strong in, being that it is all
math, and what is math if not just a series of procedures or rules. With enterprising coming in
third, that means I am strong in leadership roles, making decisions, or taking strong risks for
profits, which my personal history has shown that this is extremely true. With social being in
last, it means I should avoid jobs that require a lot of teaching, or working with other people side
by side. With everything these say it means I am best set for a job where I am in a strong
leadership role, but am not having to work on a project with multiple people in my position.

I got the results of O'net's skills inventory and the results are as follows:
This shows that I am more of an introverted person, which I can say is true for the most
part, I am most comfortable just at home, alone, or with really close friends. I have more trust
over intuition, which I agree with, I almost always go with my intuition than anything else. I do
prefer to go with thinking over things, rather than just feeling my emotions through a situation,
and I will be honest I have never understood what perceiving over judging means in this
situation.
My “team”/Support system falls into my mom, who is supporting me no matter what, and
I appreciate that she has allowed me to focus entirely on school, and not have to juggle going to
school, paying for school, working full time, and paying my own bills. I also have my friends,

who all are there when I need an ear for what I am working on, as they are all rather intelligent
people, some of which have already graduated, and either working in fields that I intend on
working with, or just know the school system to help work on assignments.
For what I can do now while in school is, focus hard on my studies, make sure I know
what I am doing in all of the things I need to do for my job, which as it stands is a lot of math,
and as time goes on, I will need to be fluent in excel. Other things I can do while in school is take
Speaking of networking, the first and easiest thing I can think of is an internship, where I
meet and network with people in the field. Another is using online sites such as linkedin, where I
can meet people in the field, and interact with them and get to understand the field.
What I need to get at least an entry level job in an accounting field, is a highschool
degree, good organizational skills, good numerical skills, and knowledge of accounting. Which I
am going above this in that I am trying for my bachelors, which is what I would need in order to
My expected salary for my job is about 60k a year in any average accounting based job,
this of course changes if I get higher education, location, and company size. But I expect that to
be the average for my job in 5 years. For responsibilities, I expect that I will have to make sure to
keep track of the businesses expenditures from what ever the service is, while tracking the
income, and having to prepare financial statements and tax statements for the company that I
work at.
Obstacles I might face is the hiring scene. There has been a strong job shortage over the
past few years, and we are beginning to enter into a recession which means companies will be
hiring less and less. Another is being replaced by a machine, because as I have said, accounting
5
is just numbers, and nothing does numbers better than a machine, but thankfully machines also
cant figure out how to solve an issue it isn't programmed to solve, so for now that isn't a worry.
Other obstacles would have to be like the death of my mother. If she dies, I will have to begin
taking care of my younger brother, and I thankfully wont have to pay off the house, as my mom
has made sure that the life insurance will be enough to pay for the house. But those are the only
big obstacles other than education requirements I will have for this job.
