Lata
Every body recognizes who is given name of ‘bharat kokila’-nightingale of India; yes she is Lata
Mangeshkar a legend in singers.
Her birth chart is with Taurus ascendant whose lord is Venus is in fourth house aspecting the
tenth house. Ascendant is occupied by Jupiter,an eighth and eleventh lord. Being eighth lord it
shows that she has to work very hard and to face many obstacles to achieve success. Her father
was Pt.Deenanath Mangeshkar a classical singer & stage actor. He could not impart his children a
proper schooling however to compensate this shortcoming he gave his children music lessons
early in life. Classical music and stage was the tradition she received from her father. Venus in
fourth show that she received her education in art i.e. music. She learnt classical from her father
in a traditional manner. Fifth house is occupied by Sun and Mercury together forming budhaditya
yoga - a combination for intelligence. Fifth lord in the own house is again a powerful yoga for
success. Fourth lord in fifth house -a rajayoga. Fifth house is aspected by Saturn by its tenth
aspect and by Jupiter by its fifth aspect. Thus fifth house is receiving maximum concentration of
the birth chart. Relation of fifth - eighth - tenth leads to traditional occupation in one’s life.
Moreover fifth house is the most auspicious house of any birth chart and any yoga relates to fifth
house elevates the life of a person to a certain heights. The birth chart also has Mahabhagya
yoga-when one is born at night and ascendant, Sun and Moon are in even signs which enumerates
that the possessor of this yoga would be virtuous, graceful, will have good wealth and fame
worldwide. (Remember the same yoga is present in Indira Gandhi’s birthchart). There are many
other combinations to support her occupation and fame in singing. Her father knew a little about
astrology and told her mother that she is going to be a miracle; though he died before she started
singing. Second house is aspected by Saturn the tenth lord. Second lord is exalted in the fifth
house and forming budhaditya yoga. In navamsha chart Mercury is in ascendant and vargottama
but in Rahu-Ketu axis In dashmansha chart Mercury is in the fifth house in the house of Saturn
and is aspected by Saturn the tenth lord of the birth chart.Mercury is aspected by Jupiter and
Moon. Mercury the significator of communication here it is lord of second house is in good
position to promising career of singing.Venus significator of art and music is in the fourth house
of the birth chart and in navamsha chart is in the eleventh house in the house of Moon- Venus and
Moon combination is good for a singer. It is in the second house of dashmansha chart in the sign
scorpio. Note that in the birth chart second house is aspected by Saturn and in the navamsha chart
it is placed with Mars and in dashmansha chart again the sign of Mars is seen here. Association of
malefic shows stamina given to her throat to sing for a longer period.
Navamsha Chart
Her first Playback was in a Marathi film in 1942 in the period of Mercury/Jupiter-Pahili
Mangalagaur, she even acted in a few marathi films Her first Hindi song1943 -
Gajabhau ;Vinayak Rao was happy with Lata’s performance and signed her as a staff artiste on a
monthly salary of Rs. 60.Lateron she first sang her first hindi playback in 1947 in period of
Ketu/:Venus but it did not bring any recognition to her. Then she met Mst.Ghulam Haider who
predicted that ‘Let me foretell today that this girl will soon put to shade everyone else including
Noor Jehan. Producers & singers will fall at her feet begging to sing in their films.’For each song
she had to sit at the rehearsals for at least a fortnight. She also had the agony of going through at
least half a dozen retakes. That was the role of malefics to the second house which gave her
strength to do such a lot of exercise to her throat. Then after 1948 after the period of Ketu/Moon
(which were 4/10 to each other in the birth chart) she never looked back. Her hardwork brought
success and fame in her life.
