• Cable and power-up a CX600 storage system incx6130
1. If this array was ordered as “factory installed” then some of this cabling may already be
completed. If this is the case, then use this procedure to verify that the cabling was done
correctly in the factory and then continue to power-up the storage system.
___
2. CAUTION: Be sure to maintain power and loop integrity when cabling your storage system.
Always connect power supply A, SPS A, SP A, LCC A(s), and DAE2 power/cooling module A
(on the first DAE2) together in one power/loop configuration. Connect all the B components
together in the same manner.

Connecting the ac line cord to the power supply:

NOTE: The CX600 uses retention bales to relieve strain on the power cords and to keep the
cords seated in their connectors.

a. At the back of the cabinet, rotate the retention bale on each power supply out of the
way of the ac connector.

b. Plug the ac line cord into each power supply.

c. Return the retention bale to its original position.

d. Push the cord into the bale loop to hold the cord in position.

Refer to the above diagram as you connect the ac line cords to your SPS.

NOTE: Be sure to maintain all A to A and B to B connections. Failure to do so will

prevent write caching from working.

e. Plug the free end of power supply A’s power cord into SPS A’s power outlet.

f. Plug the free end of power supply B’s power cord into SPS B’s power outlet.

g. Connect each SPS ac inlet to the nearest ac outlet in the vertical power strip in the
cabinet. ___

3. Connect the Storage Processors to the Standby Power Supplies:

Refer to the diagram below as you connect the storage processors to the SPS.

___
4. Connect the DAE2s:

When cabling the DAE2(s), you should always cable from the CX600 BE port to the primary
port of the first DAE2 in the loop. When connecting multiple DAE2s, cable from the expansion
port to the primary port of the next DAE2 in that loop. Most often, this means that DAE2s are
cabled from the bottom up. However, as long as you connect an expansion port to the next
primary port in a loop, you can also cable down.

Refer to the following diagram as you connect the DAE2s:

EMC2293

a. Connect the first DAE2 on back-end loop 0.

Cable SP A’s BE 0 port to the PRI (primary) port on the first DAE2’s LCC A. Use a 1-m
copper cable with HSSDC connectors.

Use another 1-m copper cable to connect the BE 0 port on SP B to the PRI port on
LCC B in the first DAE2.

b. Connect the second DAE2 on back-end loop 1.

Cable SP A’s BE 1 port to the PRI (primary) port on the second DAE2’s LCC A. Use a
1-m copper cable.

Use another 1-m copper cable to connect the BE 1 port on SP B to the PRI port on
LCC B in the second DAE2.

c. To connect additional DAE2s on each loop, cable the LCC EXP (expansion) port on
each DAE2 to the PRI port on the next LCC on that loop. Be sure to maintain the
division between A and B components; never connect an LCC A and an LCC B
together.

NOTE: In a typical single-cabinet installation, loops skip over physically adjacent

DAE2s. Other configurations allow daisy-chaining between adjacent DAE2s.
___
5. Power up the CX600 as follows:

a. Starting at the top, turn on the power to all of the DAE2s connected to the CX600.

The only power switches on a DAE2 are those on the power supply/system cooling
module, which are normally on. As a result, a DAE2 is always active.

NOTE: Do not power up a disk enclosure without at least one LCC installed. You can
configure a driveless disk enclosure within a Fibre Channel loop. High availability with
write-caching requires disks in slots 0-4 in the first DAE2 connected to a storage
processor (Enclosure Address 0, loop 0).

b. Turn the CX600’s power supply switches to the on (l) position.

c. Turn the SPS power switches to the on position.

d. In the cabinet, set the main circuit breaker switches to the on position.

The CX600 and any DAE2s in the cabinet will power up.

Once the CX600 is powered up, it boots and begins the initialization process. ___
