dry. Because humans need so much water, surviving in deserts is very difficult. Not only is it difficult
for humans to survive in deserts - it is also hard for animals, plants and other forms of life to live.
This, in turn, makes it even harder for human life to persist because there is always risk of running
out of food.

Q18.Do you think the North Indian Plain is an ideal place for people to settle in? Give reasons for

Ans: Yes, the North Indian Plain is an ideal place for people to settle in. The reasons are as follows:
i) The northern plains comprise of three major rivers- Ganga, Indus and Brahmaputra.
These rivers bring alluvial soil with them and make the soil fertile. This soils is suitable
for agriculture. So, they provide fertile land for cultivation.
ii) The climate is favourable . It is hot during the summer and cold during the winter.
iii) Good amount of rainfall during monsoons and abundant water supply from these three
rivers makes the place ideal for living.
iv) People prefer to settle in places that have good connectivity. The northern plains have
good network of roads, railways and airways.
