PRODUCT: Pantene

MANUFACTURING ENVIRONMENT:

Pantene Shampoo is a FMCG product, which means

that it is a fast moving item, it sells within a few days

and does not stay on shelves for a long time. Shampoo

is a product that is used almost every other day in all

the houses. Its production is done on the basis of forecast. Make to stock

manufacturing is the environment that I will choose for this product, because for

this product it is important that the production is done and delivered on time to

fulfill the demand of the people. Make to stock manufacturing environment only

has one lead time that is delivery lead time, by the help of this manufacturing

environment the lead time can be reduced and production can be completed on

time according to the demand.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS:

The manufacturing process that I will choose for production of Pantene Shampoo

is Line Flow Manufacturing process. The product has low variety and is produced

in high volume, because of a FMCG product. Same routing is followed, and


workers and machineries are dedicated for the same work and path. The process of

product includes that first the shampoo is prepared or mixed in a container and

then filled in batches according to the sizes of the bottle. Each bottle is prepared

after passing through the same path from point of starting to ending. As Pantene

comes with different choices, so the process has different independent stations that

prepare similar product with a bit difference such as fragrance or chemicals.

MANUFACTURING EXCELLENCE:

The production of Pantene Shampoo is done in a flow, if the defects are removed

and process is made smooth then it will be easy to perform all the operations and

make the product. I will choose lean sigma strategy to achieve manufacturing

excellence of this product. Lean sigma will help to eliminate the waste product and

will faster the speed of the process. This process will increases the efficiency of the

production, which will help to produce high volumes of the product and meet the

demand on time.

WAREHOUSING TYPE:

I will choose private warehousing type for this product. Although it is costly, and

the whole responsibility is on the company, but Pantene is a big brand and

production of this product is done in large quantity. If the company rent or contract

warehouse then still there are some restrictions and security issues, but if the

warehouse is owned by company then it can be managed in the best way. The
production volume is high for Pantene shampoo, having own warehouse will make

it easy to deal with the stock and arrange it in the best possible ways.

TRANSPORTATION TYPE:

The transportation type that I will select for this product will be private. The

company will have to purchase its own transportation and keep staff for it, but it

will also be easy, as company can select any route and any schedule as per their

choice. The private transport also guarantees safety because company will take all

the measures to safely deliver the product.

STOCK PICKING:

Pantene Shampoo is produced on the basis of demand and it has to be dispatched in

large orders for deliveries, also it has to deliver many order in one time. I will

choose multi order system for this purpose, as different zones will send particular

product and it will merged and dispatched in marshalling area. This way the

company can dispatch multiple orders at a time.
