- Textbooks are screened at the national level and placed
on an acceptable adoption list. Districts then select from
these acceptable texts those that meet their instructional
needs.
- Supervisors, representing the districts, are often on
different committees that select books.

- District supervisors are sent to meetings to find
a consultant to help the district with a problem
area. Knowing the real needs of the schools and
finding the kind of consultant who can be useful for

back information from the field about what is working and
what needs fixing.
- The supervisor is strategically placed to recognize

- District supervisors communicate well in planning in-service
trainings. These plans will be relayed to school heads.
- Generally, the teachers are regarded as the hub of educational
development. Therefore, in-service education is concerned with the
activities and courses in which a serving teacher may participate for
the purpose of upgrading his professional skills, knowledge and
interest, subsequent to initial training.

1. Communicating District Policy
- Translating Board decisions and interpreting laws
affecting instruction are often left from the district
supervisors to school heads. In this role, the supervisor
meets with the school heads, and key personnel to outline
changes that are mandated.

2. Reviewing Discipline Decisions
- The supervisor shall have authority, accountability, and
responsibility for creating an environment within the
school that is conducive to teaching and learning.
Supervisors shall be deemed persons in authority when in
discharge of lawful duties and responsibilities, and shall,
be therefore, be accorded due respect and decision.

3. Coordinating Special Services
- Special services are those things that schools do for
students that fall outside the normal classroom teaching.
- Examples of special services would be linkage with
outside agencies (social workers, health agencies, law
enforcement) special resources for students and
coordination of special services provided by community
groups.

1. School Improvement Plans
- School Improvement Plan (SIP) is a roadmap that lays down
specific interventions that a school, with the help of the
community and other stakeholders.
- Supervisors usually implement School Improvement Plans by
leading schools through a series of steps to clarify the goals
of the existing program and identify the discrepancies
between what is desired and what currently exists.

because they have a greater opportunity to learn what
is going on in other schools within and outside the
