Campaign Rules: The Epic Story

These campaign rules were created out of seeing the potential for this amazing game. Little tweaks here and there and I
think the challenge can be just right. I know people get upset with having to customize your game but…I kind of enjoy it.

Objective: Defeat a set number of Adversaries using the same character throughout with a progressively more difficult
A.I. opponent. This is a Solo/Cooperative game variant.

Wining the Campaign: The Campaign ends when either 5 Adversaries are defeated (this does not have to be
consecutively), or a character loses a game and are killed (see Losing and Dying Below).

Set up: to start a solo/coop Campaign, set up a game per standard rules. Select 5 Adversaries. Shuffle all 5 together and
set face down. Turn over the first card on the top of the stack. When an Adversary is defeated, shuffle it into their
appropriate Story deck before the start of the next game.

At the end of the Game: Your place on the Corruption Track at the end of the game is persevered from game to game.
Where you ended the game is where you begin the next. Experience Tokens are reset to 3 and one Hero card is drawn
unless Character Evolution changes that.

Evolving your Character

After each game won, you may evolve one of your Hero cards. Your Origin never changes but either Motivation or
Destiny can be. Only one may change per opportunity. Remember it’s only after a game you win. After a loss, characters
are focus on staying alive and escaping from their predicament. Follow the chart below to see the details of how you
progress your character

• After each win you may change either Motivation or Destiny but never both. Origin never changes
• After 2 consecutive wins- you may keep 1 Trait gained during the game under your Origin card. These are called
referred to as Learned Traits.
• After 2 consecutive wins- You may choose, start the game with 4 experience tokens or draw 2 Hero cards at the
start of the game. Both cannot be done.
• After 3 consecutive wins- You may keep a second Trait card, maximum of 2, gained during the game (Learned
Traits) under your Origin card.
o You still must complete three Act 1 cards, but you only get to keep one of the Story cards under your
Origin. The other 2 cards you either:
▪ Gain any immediate bonus then set the card to the side.
▪ Or replace the final Story card under your Origin from Act 1.
• Any runes or bonuses gained as a result of the card will be immediately removed when
the card is removed.

**Note** Winning a campaign game is defined as defeating the Adversary not points scored. When an Adversary is
defeated, shuffle their card back into the appropriate Story deck and immediately turn over the top card of the
Adversary Stack. Points scored are still important and have a purpose. This will be address later.

***Note*** A glorious victory is scored when you win a game by defeating the Adversary and scoring 10 more than the
required amount. Amounts vary depending on the Adversary difficulty, see below.
Progressing the Adversary

In any campaign style game (or story) the enemy must improve to keep pace with your character’s growth and
experience. In this variant The 4th Jawa’s (Bram Kok) Modified Solo Rules will be used
https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2186664/modified-solo-rules

• 1 win- A.I. starts with 1 experience token (XT) and 1 Antihero card in play.
• 2nd win- A.I. starts with 1 XT and 2 Antihero cards in play.
• 3rd win- A.I. starts with 2 Antihero cards in play and 2 Quest cards. 1 Quest is their associated quest and the
other, “Inescapable Tragedy” (If you have Name of the Wind expansion) or “Rise of the Adversary”
• 4th win- A.I. starts with 2 Antihero cards in play and 2 Quest cards. 1 Quest is their associated quest, the other
“Rise of the Adversary”. The A.I. received bonuses (and negatives) from both Quest cards including all associated
experience tokens.
• 5th win- Campaign complete. Total your score and record your win/loss (and hopefully write your epic story) and
post on BBG.

Losing and Dying

In the regular solo/coop game the players don’t die but in this variant they do. This is how a character can meet their
untimely end.

• When a character loses a game, has no Learned Traits and doesn’t score enough total points for this Adversary
(based on the difficulty number), that character is killed. Place their Origin out of the game. Shuffle Motivation
and Destiny back into their respective stacks.
• If a character loses a game when they have a Learned Trait, they first lose a Learned Trait. They will keep losing 1
Learned Trait until they have none attached to their Origin. At that moment refer to the previous bullet point.
• Since winning and losing a campaign game is based on defeating or losing to Adversary, when a character loses a
game, thematically points score equal their ability to get out of a terrible life-threatening situation. Their points
should equal or exceed the required total based on the Adversary’s difficulty number (modifiers from the Quest
cards included)
▪ 6 difficulty= 26 points
▪ 7 difficulty= 28 points
▪ 8 difficulty= 30 points
▪ 9 difficulty= 33 points
▪ 10 difficulty= 35 points
• If a character dies, immediately total your points, win/loss record and post it on BGG. Then redraw your
character cards and start the next campaign.

Happy adventuring. I can’t wait to read your Epic Campaign Story.
