SECTION 4 : FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA

Fire /Explosion hazards  Not a hazard as solid ingot. On further

processing, fine particles may be easily
ignitable.
 Molten metal in contact with
water/moisture or certain metal oxides
(e.g., rust, copper oxide) can create
explosion.
 Moisture or water entrapped in cracks on
top surface of ingots can lead to explosion
when charged without preheating.
Suitable Extinguishing Media Use Dry-powder extinguisher.
Do not use water or halogenated media.

Protective equipment for firefighters Fire fighters should wear NIOSH approved, positive
pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus and
full protective clothing when appropriate.

SECTION 5 : REACTIVITY DATA

Stability Stable under normal conditions of use, storage and

transportation
Hazardous Polymerization Will not occur
Conditions to avoid Molten aluminium can react violently with water
Incompatible materials Water and Strong acids
Hazardous Decomposition Products  With water: slowly generates hydrogen,
ammonia and heat. May create a hazard
when contained.
 With Heat: oxidizes at a temperature
dependent rate.
 With strong oxidizers: violent reaction with
much heat generation.
 With acids and alkalis: reacts to generate
hydrogen.

SECTION 6: HEALTH HAZARD DATA

General A dust free Solid ingot does not imply any

health risk. Cutting, welding, grinding etc. will
generate dust / fumes which may imply
health risk.
Contact with hot metal can lead to severe
burns.

SECTION 7: DISPOSAL PROCEDURES

Disposal  This product is not considered to be

hazardous to the environment.
 Recycling is the preferred method of disposal.
 Keep the material in dry containers to prevent
contact with water.

SECTION 8: HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling Add only completely dry and/or preheated

Ingots/Sows in order to avoid risk of explosion.
Ingots may have sharp edges, chips and burrs.
Binding strap can cause cut injury if handled without
wearing hand gloves.
During handling by fork lift, bundle may topple causing
injuries to persons nearby.
Storage precautions Ingots should be stored dry and free from oil and dust.
Pay attention to stack stability if bundles are put on
each other.

SECTION 9 : SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

Personal protective equipment  Eye protection: wear safety glasses or goggles

as appropriate when handling or working with
ingot.
 Skin protection: Wear heat- resistant leather
gloves, long-sleeved shirts, full trousers, safety
shoes, etc. for protection against sharp edges
 Respiratory protection: Wear respiratory
protection with particle filter in dusty
conditions and when cutting, welding, grinding
and melting etc.
