Participate and Assist

You are now ready to participate and assist!
Understanding fully the concept and the process of Action Research will enable you to learn and provide
the needed assistance to your teacher mentor in doing Action Research.

Notice
What concepts have been emphasized in the task and infographics? Give at least four.
1. Observe
2. Reflect
3. Plan
4. Act

Since the 3 models are all for action research, what are the common elements of the three?
Based on the 3 models for action research, the three common elements that can be found are as follow:
observe, reflect and act. To solve the problematic situation, it is important to recognize the root of the
problem and the action to be considered. These 3 models stimulate the same objective which is to
resolve and identify the extent of the issue to enhance the teaching and learning process.

Guide Questions
Choose the AR sample Abstract that you submitted in Episode 2.

 Analyze the components vis-à -vis only one model out of the 3 presented.

If you choose to compare with Model A-McNiff & Whitehead, 2006, here are the components.

VIII. References Write at least 3 references.

What have you understood about the concept of Action Research and how ill these be utilized in your
practice?
From what I understood about the concept of action research is that it place an emphasis to put forth a
practical solution to the identified problematic situations. The practical solution for it generates a
pattern which is to observe, reflect, plan, and act. By doing so, it didn't just aid the students to develop
to their maximum potential or advance to their academic goals but it brings forth a perspective for
teachers to counteract and implement methods and ways in order to foster a better learning
environment.

Self-Learning Activity-A
As a future teacher, is conducting Action Research worth doing?
Conducting action research is indeed worth doing. It means a lot as a future teacher. It engenders a
sense of purpose which is to make a difference thereby helping students find ways to betterment that
add to their value as lifelong learners.

Why?
It is essential as a future teacher to put into practical use of an action research. As a future teacher, there
is a need to conduct action research because it seeks to understand and improve the many ways that
impede the students may it be personal matters or academic factors.

How can AR be useful for every classroom teacher?

Action Research is utterly useful for every classroom teacher as it gives teachers a framework on which
to implement methods and reasonable solutions that will help students develop and achieve their full
potential. Additionally, it gives teachers an idea to fill the void and address the issue by coming up with
a practical solution that helps students improve their skills, perform well, and flourish in their
educational goals.

Self-Learning Activity-B
Direction: Check from the choices, what answer’s respond to the question correctly and put an X if
otherwise.
1. Action research requires a teacher to be:
_____ observant of what is happening in the classroom.
__X__ asking oneself of how to improve teaching
__X__ following the daily routine all the time
__X__ finding ways on how children should learn better
__X__ blaming learners for their inability to learn.

2. There are many ways of doing action research which follow a cyclical process. The process include:
_____ Observe, Reflect, Plan, Act
__X__ Observe, Plan, Act, Reflect
__X__ Reflect, Act, Plan, Observe
__X__ Plan, Observe, Act, Reflect
__X__ Modify, Observe, Plan, Reflect

3. As an action researcher, I will be developing my skill as a person who is

_____ Systematic __X__ Futuristic
_____ Reflective. __X__ Situational
__X__ Rigorous

4. On which of the following would you choose to conduct an Action Research. Why?
_____ Changes in the classroom practices. Why?
Classroom practices are part and parcel of teaching. It's very empirical to institute a teaching style that
will meet every student's needs. That is why finding out the best strategy will be advantageous for
teachers in the teaching and learning process. In doing so, administering action research will be a
beneficial thing to do to identify what strategy is best in the classroom that is conducive for students
when learning and applying new understandings.
__X__ Effects of curriculum restructuring. Why?
__X__ Understanding of self as a teacher. Why?
__X__ Teaching a new process to the students. Why?

5. Which of the following relates closely to what action research is?

_____ Used to address practical problems in the classroom
_____ Refers only to everyday life of the learners
_____ Allows teachers to study their own classroom
_____ Brings theories and practices together

OBSERVE
Remembering my classroom observations in FS 1, I noticed that there are many questions that I raised
in my mind. These include:
a. What is another way to get students' attention?
b. What should a teacher do to maximize the student's interest in the lesson?
c. What must a teacher do to mitigate the student's disruptive and unnecessary behavior in the
classroom?

REFLECT
Thinking deeply about those problems, perhaps something must have been done to solve the problem
or answer the questions, like:
a. Conduct a small group discussion that is interesting, participatory, and educational. Incorporate
conservations in a way that enriches students' knowledge and improves the learning process.
During the class discussion, as much as possible provide words of encouragement. Afterward,
administer various activities such as drawing, singing, or dancing as an avenue to develop the
student's creative and motor skills.
b. Integration of audio/visual aids like showing a video presentation allows students to listen and
see a clear message or explanation of the lesson that might increase their interest to take part in
the classroom. Additionally, it helps to boost the comprehension of the students whereby
learner comes better to understand and retain the information. To put into practical use a
technology material will foster a learning environment that helps teachers better support
student learning.
c. Implementation of proactive classroom management set out a course of action to maximize
appropriate conduct and minimize student misbehavior. Reinforce a few rules and regulations.
Address what is and is not acceptable. Build relationships with the students. Establish very clear
boundaries and expectations.

PLAN
Now, that I am in FS 2, I plan to make a plan for my solution to problem C because doing so encourages
greater academic efficiency and develops the learning environment in the classroom. We can't deny the
fact that it's difficult to improve classroom management but it would necessitate imposing it from time
to time. Along the lines, teachers must identify what methods and strategies that advantageous and
beneficial for teachers and students alike, thereby advancing the qualities of education. Optimizing
excellent classroom management brings about a healthy environment that improves learning To sum it
all up, this will guarantee discipline, tolerance, and uniformity.

ACT
My actions will come later, given enough time in FS 2 or during my Teaching Internship. So, I must be
observant of the students. I should identify what obstructs them in their educational pursuits may it be
personal matters or academic inadequacy. I must reinforce a routine that will benefit their learning
experience. Furthermore, maximizing the use of varied instructional materials will increase the
students understanding or interest in the lesson.

SHOW Your Learning Artifacts for your Portfolio

Your artifact will be a full blown completed Action Research.
I. Title of Action Research:
Optimizing Classroom Management against disruptive classroom behavior

II. Author/s:
Juvert E. Lucero

III. Abstract
Disruptive classroom behavior was the main source that was prevalent in the classroom. Students
were inattentive and talkative. Students were conversing with one another while the teacher was
discussing. They ignored the teacher's instructions. Additionally, other students simply began
laughing in the middle of class. The other students were pacing around the room. The students were
eager to participate was wonderful of them. The only issue is that they always respond in a chorus
when their teacher asks a question. Therefore, it increases the noise and turns the classroom into
disorderly. These events did not take place simultaneously. However, it is difficult when students
are simply unavoidably stubborn and interrupt the discussion.

IV. Identify the Problem in the Study

Proper classroom management was least/not displayed which links to disruptive classroom
behavior. As a result, students were/class was inattentive. While the teacher discussing, some
students are using cellphones, some are laughing with their seatmates, others were talking with
their friends and some students didn't listen at all. In other words, they didn't pay attention to their
teacher which adversely affects the teaching and learning process.

V. Identify the Action Taken in the Study

I will strive to encourage effective classroom management to make things better. I want to establish
a seating plan as one of the adjustments. I want chairs set up in the classroom. They must be kept
out of their circle of friends. I'll reorder them alphabetically, starting with guys and then on to girls.
Since they are separated from their peers, the interaction between their seatmates will undoubtedly
lessen. As a result, this will be the first step in helping them improve their social skills and build
strong bonds with their classmates. In addition, I'll impose a few guidelines. I should administer
what is and is not appropriate. To conclude, reinforcing trusting relationships with my students
while establishing and upholding strict rules and guidelines is paramount.
