Karch Kiraly
Karch Kiraly is arguably the greatest volleyball player in history of the sport. Karch Kiraly has the most professional career beach volleyball tournament victories (148). Karch Kiraly is the only volleyball player to win three gold medals (1984, 1988, 1996). Karch Kiraly is known as the sparkplug that inspired the 1984 and 1988 USA Mens Olympic Volleyball Teams by playing outstanding volleyball and encouraging his teammates to play their best. Wearing his hot pink hat, Karch Kiraly was an easily recognizable figure during his days playing volleyball on the beach.

Logan Tom
Logan Tom is a phenomenal athlete and one of the most dynamic volleyball players in the world. Logan Tom's impressive talent has made her one of the most famous volleyball players in the world today. At 6 feet 1 inch tall, Logan Tom plays volleyball with strength, power, and grace. Logan Tom was a four-time first-team All-American at Stanford. Logan Tom was a two-time NCAA National Player of the Year. Tom was MVP of the NCAA Final Four in 2001. In the Sydney 2000 Olympics, at 19, Logan Tom was the youngest player on the National Team, yet she started for the team and placed fourth. Logan Tom is an international superstar that has played professionally in Brazil, Italy and Switzerland.

Kerri Walsh

Kerri Walsh currently partners with Misty May Treanor as the best women's beach volleyball team in the world and likely the two most famous volleyball players. Kerri and Misty had an astonishing win streak of 38 matches in their first year on the AVP Tour. Kerri and Misty had an unbelievable 89 match win streak on the AVP Tour and the international circuit between 2003 and 2004. Kerri Walsh is a two-time AVP MVP (2003, 2004). Kerri Walsh has lead the AVP in both blocks and hitting percentage the last two AVP seasons.

Steve Timmons
In the 80's, Steve Timmons wore a wild red flat top that made him the most identifiable indoor volleyball player in the world. Considered a pioneer of back row hitting, Steve Timmons combined with his outstanding front row attacking skills made him an unstoppable force. In 1984, Steve Timmons was named MVP of the Olympics by the FIVB after leading USA to a Gold medal.

Paula Weishoff
Paula Weishoff is one of only 4 USA women's volleyball players to compete in 3 different Olympics. Throughout her career, Paula Weishoff was a dominating blocker and server. Paula is the only American volleyball player to have played in Olympic Games 12 years apart (silver in 84, bronze in 92). Paula Weishoff won an Outstanding Player award for her performance at the 1992 Olympics.

Flo Hyman
Flo Hyman was one of the greatest and most famous volleyball players of her generation.
She was named All World and selected as the Most Valuable Player in countless international tournaments, as well as being named to numerous All-Star Teams. In 1985 she was named one of the All-Time Great Volleyball Players. Flo Hyman was voted Best Attacker at the Pan-Am Games in 1975, 1979, and 1983, the NORCECA Championships in 1975, 1977, 1979, 1981 and 1983, and the World University Games in 1973 and 1977.

 
Helia Souza (Fofo), Brazil

Hlia Rogrio de Souza of Brazil, better known as Fofo became one of the well-known female volleyball players in 2008 Olympic Games. Fofo appeared in Olympic Volleyball fourth consecutive time in Beijing 2008.
In Beijing Fofo, 38-year-old captain led her team to Olympic Gold medal as a starting setter. She was selected the best setter of the 2008 Olympic Games after superior performance throughout the tournament. Height: 1.73 / 5'8"

Nikolic Jelena, Serbia


Jelena Nikolic is a wing-spiker (outside hitter) for the Serbian womens volleyball team. The 25-year-old hitter led Serbia to its surprising bronze at the 2006 World's Championships and helped team Serbia to qualify the team for its first Olympics. Teams: VC Takefuji Bamboo (Japan) , Vak fBank Gne Sigorta (Turkey). Height: 1.94 / 6'4"

Brakocevic Jovana, Serbia Brakocevic is born in year 1988 and is one of the future stars of the women s volleyball. Brakocevic is an universal player and played as an opposite hitter in the Beijing Olympic Games of 2008. Teams: Po tar 064 (Serbia), Spess Volley Conegliano (ITA).

Rosir Calderon, Cuba


Rosir Calderon Diaz was selected the best spiker at the 2006 Worlds Championships. She is one more powerful offensive player to Cubas strong lineup. She is the daughter of Erenia Diaz, a former world champion and Cuban women's nationa l team head coach. Yimei Wang, China Keep your eyes on Yimei Wang of China. She has very quickly become one of today's best female volleyball players. This hard hitting woman became a big star in Beijing Olympic Games 2008. Yimei Wang (born 11/01/1988) made her international debut for the national team 2005. In Olympic Games 2008 this 20-year-old opposite hitter was 2nd best scorer in the tournament! People did not know so much about her before the Olympic Tournament 2008 now they do for sure. Yang Hao, China

Yang Hao ((Chinese: Pinyin: Yng Ho)) is a Chinese female volleyball player. Yang currently plays volleyball for club in Liaoning and has played for the national team during many of its recent successes. Chinese team won the gold medal in the 2004 Olympics, where they defeated Russia in one of the most memorable womens volleyball match ever. Strength of the national team of China is their balanced and well-build team, but if one player needs to be brought up, she is Yang Hao. She has been a leading player for the Chinese national team in its recent tournaments. In 2008 Olympic Games Chinese team placed 3rd. Volleyball Olympic Qualifying


The governing body of Volleyball is the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) It was founded in 1947 the same year that volleyball became an official Olympic sport. In 1986, the (FIVB) endorsed beach volleyball as an official sport and beach volleyball was first played in the Olympics in Atlanta, in 1996. The FIVB is the organization responsible for international volleyball competitions, volleyball rules and regulations along with Olympic qualifying events.

Olympic Volleyball Qualifying Men and Women Volleyball

There are 12 available places for the men's Olympic volleyball tournament and 12 available places for the women's Olympic volleyball tournament. The host nation for the Olympics will be given 1 place in the men's Olympic Volleyball tournament and 1 Place in the women's Olympic Volleyball tournament. In addition to the host country there will be 5 continental champions, with the 5 confederations being responsible for organizing 1 continental Olympic Qualification tournament. The next top 6 teams will be chosen in accordance with World Cup regulations and the teams that finish first, second and third place in each of the World Cups will qualify for the Olympics, for a total of 12 teams.
