The Black Legion
One millennium ago a vicious, yet loyal, assassin nearly died while on a mission. As his lifeblood
poured out of his body on the banks of a muddy river he beheld a vision. A saw before him a beautiful
woman with long black feathered wings. She lifted him from the river and healed his wounds. When he
awoke he and his caretaker spoke. While the details remain a mystery to this day it had turned out that the
assassin had nearly died killing a disguised demonic worshipper who was nearly ready to summon a horde of
dark forces upon his world. The assassin realizing that the danger hadn’t passed returned to his people and
mobilized a force of people like him, smart, ruthless, and above all, skilled. Working from the shadows this
group, which had been dubbed the Black Legion due to their secrecy, had prevented their world from falling
victim to an invasion that it could not survive.
When the smoke cleared what remained of the assassin’s secret army left their world behind. Their
fight there was done, but the assassin knew that other world were still in danger. Thus the Black Legion
began to recruit from these other worlds. Within two hundred years they spanned a half dozen worlds and
had agents working in the belly of the beast, living amongst the demons and devils of the lower reaches.
They continue to fight a shadow war, cold, efficient, and secret against the fiends, trying to protect all the
mortal realms from the destruction that dwells in the multiverse’s darkest recesses.
You are new agents of the Black Legion. Hand picked from amongst your world’s greatest heroes to
play the most dangerous game ever conceived of; because, there is nothing more dangerous than walking
into a devil’s home, looking him in the eye, and lying to him.
Sample Mortal Worlds
Eredune
Eredune is a world being subverted by the undead worshippers of an unnamed demonic prince. The
walking dead are increasingly plaguing these dark lands. The people have begun to grow paranoid, declaring
most arcane spellcasters, and many others, as witches. They hunt witches and the like. These hunts make
people feel better, but they do little to curb the slowly approaching darkness.
Alecrast
This world of long departed ancient gods and terrible dragons as old as creation has never been
touched by the forces of otherworldly darkness. However it’s abundance of skilled members has lead to
numerous recruits originating from there. The Black Legion knows that the bodies of their dead gods, and
their spirits still slumber beneath their soil and if ever discovered would make a great target for any number
of extra planar foes.
Vera
The forests of Vera are huge and primal. A world of harsh natural environment where civilization has
never taken hold the local barbarians, shaman, and woodsmen proved their valor centuries ago when a
Demon Prince suprisingly was born on their world. To the shock of everyone in creation, the barbarian tribes
and ancient fey of Vera drove their invaders back into the abyss.
Athas
Bleak deserts as far as the eye can see. That is what greets the eye of the visitor to Athas. The world
has proven to be poisonous to otherworldly incursion. Portals to and from Athas are few and far between.
The land lacks in natural resources like iron ore, and water. And the inhabitants are blessed with raw psychic
talent, and the environment has forged them all into some of the toughest mortals in existence. The final fact
has tempted some dark creatures. A slave from Athas could do the work of ten slaves from elsewhere if they
could be taken.
Thystra
Thystra is in many ways the traditional fantasy world. Sword and Sorcery clash in a world of high
adventure. However lurking in the shadows is a race that the locals call “demons” the name is an ironic one.
These “demons” were once the predominate race of a far-flung world not seen before or since. Those who
live on Thystra are refugees; their world long ago brought low by forces so dark that they dare not speak
about them. However on Thystra these “demons” are reviled and feared for their black skin, thick hides, and
natural talent with magic. These “demons” have proven a natural ally to the Black Legion. And to think, the
“demons” are only among many of the exotic races native to Thystra.
Rokugan
Honor, Steel, and the clan; these words are the creed of many of Rokugan’s mighty warriors. In
Rokugan elite sword masters called Samurai duel against foul Oni. Native creatures tainted by ancient curses
threaten to swallow their world whole. The pure foulness of this taint has drawn the interest of many dark
forces who subtly aid the dark things who wish to envelop the world. While you won’t find a Balor walking
Rokugan the world proves to be one of the most vicious battlegrounds in the Black Legion’s secret war.
D’Stradi
The Black Legion has many success stories, and many tragedies. Chief among them is D’Stradi. This
once glorious world long ago fell under the sway of the forces of darkness who now use it as a battlefield in
their own petty wars. Scant resistance still exists, but it dwindles with every day. Mortals are an endangered
species here, and those who are still alive are bitter, and angry, some even blame interlopers, such as the
Black Legion for the state of their world.
