BA LLB (Hons.)
Lady Justice stands with her blindfold on, holding a sword in one hand and a
balance in another. She represents the Roman personification of justice and her
blindfold demonstrates her impartiality: her balance is even, and her hand on the
sword will dispense justice only after the rule of law has been served, after
lawyers make their cases before her. Law students learn about Lady Justice, and
get to know her as an important symbol of the legal system. Beginning a career
in law requires commitment, fortitude, a desire to uphold laws, and a will to
become an expert on the legal system.
This is one of the many things which made pursue law as a career. The lady
justice standing blindfolded is the symbol of justice which is irrespective of the
status of the individual seeking justice in the court of law. I wanted to pursue
law because it gave me an opportunity to serve the society by assuring that
every person gets justice in the court of law. It would help me make the under-
educated know about their rights and would make me capable of standing for
my own rights as well as the rights of others which are enshrined in our
constitution.
Then there were many legal personalities/leaders who inspired me to choose
law as a profession like the great Ram Jethmalani, Subramanian Swami, the
father of our Nation Mahatama Gandhi. But one of the person or to put it
accurately leader former US President Barack Obama who is not only an
impeccable lawyer but also proved to be a great leader inspite of his various
shortcomings he has the ability to inspire millions of people even the future
generations as well.
As is the case with Barack Obama studying law really aids one in becoming a
great leader some great examples being Abraham Lincoln, MK Gandhi.
These great personalities are not only great leaders or lawyers but also eloquent
speakers which is one of the most essential traits or a quality required to be a
leader.
Being a good lawyer requires being a great speaker who needs to have an ability
to convince others so that the people listening to him/her agree to his views now
be it a judge in the court of law or a huge mob listening to you in an election
rally.
I feel that this quality to convince others is very important and is really a plus
point in developing a good personality like you speak in a way that people listen
to you with interest.
I felt that this quality in an individual is very important because I have been an
introvert all my life with very few friends with a negligible no. of listeners who
lend their ears to hear me speak. At times despite having the knowledge of a
certain topic I didn’t have the courage, or to be precise confidence to speak up.
That’s why I felt that choosing law as a career would help me come out of my
cocoon and would help me in speaking with confidence without having any
stage fear and developing a quality to speak eloquently.
Then the second reason I chose to study law was the plethora of opportunities
one would get after pursuing law like one can be a Defence Criminal Lawyer, a
Government Lawyer, can become a professor, a researcher, can be the part of
the corporate world, can aspire to become a civil servant and being a law
graduate u can have an in depth knowledge of various subjects like it is said that
there is nothing that a lawyer doesn’t know. Increased segmentation and
specialization in the legal profession has spawned a growing number of legal
specialties and sub-specialties that cater to almost every legal interest. Legal
professionals who seek a career in litigation can specialize in criminal law,
employment law, family law, products liability or dozens of other practice
areas. Legal professionals who prefer a career in corporate law can specialize in
tax law, mergers, and acquisitions, real estate, finance or another corporate
practice area that satisfies their interests.
Then being a lawyer would help me in understanding psychology of a person
like of an accused murderer the reason behind him committing such an act, what
compelled him/her to take the life of another individual. It’s the case not only
with a criminal when we are studying psychology as a subject which is very
intrinsic with law it would also help me to understand the psyche behind a
person’s decision behind him committing a certain act. Then how I perceive and
see a situation that would be in complete contrast from my opponent this
practice is way too integral when practicing law.
Then law as profession is financially very rewarding which is again a very
important part of any profession that after completing your graduation will u
land yourself in a job which is financially satisfying. So when I decided to
choose law as a profession the answer of securing a good job was in the
affirmative along with many different types of working opportunities which I
would be able to pursue in the future. Historically, the legal profession has
weathered economic downturns quite well and should do so in the future, in part
due to the growing geographic and practice diversification of many law firms.
In fact, some practice areas such as litigation, bankruptcy, and reorganization,
residential real estate foreclosures, and regulatory compliance will actually
benefit from an economic slowdown. As a result, legal professionals should find
plenty of job opportunities in any economic climate.
As lawyers, one is in a unique position to help others. A lawyer helps
individuals and organizations solve their legal problems and, in doing so,
further the public good. Every day public interest lawyers champion legal
causes that improve their local communities and the world by advocating for the
oppressed and assisting those who might not otherwise be able to afford
counsel. Lawyers in private practice perform pro bono and “low bono” work to
assist low- and moderate-income people as well as various underserved
segments of our society such as the elderly, victims of domestic abuse, the
homeless and at-risk children. Tremendous personal rewards can be realized by
making a difference through the practice o flaw that benefits others.
Lawyers also reap the reward of being part of one of the most intellectually
stimulating professions. From helping to secure immigration for a refugee
seeking political asylum to facilitating the development of a low-income
housing tax credit project that will provide needed homes to many, lawyers are
problem solvers and innovative thinkers whose intellect makes a difference. As
lawmak ers and thought leaders, lawyers are in a unique position to affect
meaningful change. For centuries lawyers have written the laws that control our
society, have overseen our judicial system and served in influential positions in
government. In these roles lawyers have been able to impact policy and change
around the globe. One of the keys to success in practicing law the true
compensation is for lawyers to actually enjoy what they are doing.
A career in law is also intellectually enriching for a law professional navigating
through an evolving legal system, advances in technology, vast bodies of case
law and the demands of the legal profession creates a stimulating intellectual
environment for the legal professional. Lawyers and non-lawyers alike must
grapple with conceptually challenging issues, reason with logic and clarity,
analyse the case and statutory law, research complex legal issues and master
oral and written communications.
In today’s globalised world there is a growing significance of the study of law.
More firms and corporations are crossing international borders and expanding
across the globe through mergers, acquisitions, consolidation, and collaboration
with foreign counsel. The globalization of the legal profession provides today’s
legal professional with a worldview and the opportunity to serve international
clients.
The legal profession is continually changing and evolving, bringing new
challenges and rewards. Legal professionals must be problem-solvers and
innovators, willing to assume new responsibilities, tackle new challenges,
master new technology and navigate an ever-evolving legal system. This
dynamic legal landscape makes each day unique and fosters an enjoyable,
fulfilling work experience. These all things have compelled me to choose law as
a career and I am looking forward to grab all the opportunities this field and the
goal remains to realise my true potential and make a successful career in the
ever-changing and this dynamic field of law.
