Laboratory Detergents
extran Benefits
No clumping Packaging protects soap from moisture Cleans effectively and prevents carry-over of residues Doesn't inhibit enzymatic tests (e.g. ocAmylase, LDH, HBDH, etc.) No unpleasant odors, chlorine-free Can replace other hazardous caustic cleaners or flammable solvents Environmentally friendly, no special disposal needed, just pour down the drain
Good clean science can only happen if laboratory and production facilities are cleaned properly. Everything that comes in contact with chemicals or biologicals needs to be free from contaminates before and after use in order to eliminate interferences and to protect yourself, your colleagues, your workplace, and the environment. EMD Chemicals offers a complete line of detergents and specialty products for manual and automatic washing. These products are specially formulated for all types of laboratory stains.
Manual Wash
When diluted with water, the extran manual powder and liquid concentrates clean by themselves without leaving residues; even on difficult to reach surfaces (e.g. inside pipettes). When diluted, extran liquid concentrates begin cleaning as soon as the objects to be cleaned are immersed in the cleaning bath. A 2% solution of most extran detergents will remove residues generated during routine laboratory analysis. For stubborn stains, the concentration of extran detergents can be increased up to 20%. For best results, objects should be immersed in an extran cleaning bath for between 2 and 24 hours depending on the degree of staining. For routine laboratory application, no scrubbing is required once objects are removed from the extran detergent cleaning bath. After removal from the cleaning bath, items should be rinsed immediately with distilled water. Using ultrasonics and/or heating the cleaning solution up to 50C can reduce the time required for cleaning to less than 2 hours.

Wash Solutions
Wash solution concentrations of 1% to 5% work well for routine cleaning. Concentrations of 6% to 15% are recommended for driedon residues or stubborn stains. Wash solution concentrations of 16% to 20% are only required in extremely difficult situations.
Ultrasonic Cleaning
Prepare a wash solution of 1% to 20%. Immerse the items to be cleaned in the wash solution and subject them to ultrasonic agitation for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse each item with distilled water after removal from the wash solution.
Soaking
Prepare a wash solution of 1% to 20%. Immerse the items to be cleaned in the wash solution for 2 to 24 hours (e.g. overnight). The cleaning process can be accelerated by heating the bath up to 50C. Rinse each item with distilled water after removal from the wash solution.
Scrubbing
Prepare a wash solution of 1% to 20%. Wet articles to be cleaned with the wash solution and gently scrub using a cloth, sponge or brush. Rinse each item with distilled water after removal from the wash solution.
