The first National Artist for Music is considered one of the “Triumvirate of
Filipino Composers”, which includes Nicanor Abelardo and Francisco Santiago.
Molina was a product of both the Romantic and Impressionist schools of thought. He
was fascinated by the dynamics and harmonies of Debussy, but retained much of the
Romantic style in his melody.
He is best known for his poignantly romantic serenade for violin and piano
Hatinggabi. Subsequent transcriptions of this piece were written for the cello, flute, piano, and guitar.
Other works by Molina include orchestral music -Misa Antoniana Grand Festival Mass, Ang
Batingaw, Kundiman-Kundangan; chamber music - String Quartet, Kung sa Iyong Gunita,
Pandangguhan; and vocal music - Amihan, Awit ni Maria Clara, and Larawan Nitong Pilipinas.
He received the National Artist for Music award in 1973.

board and charter member of the League of Filipino composers, and the first President of the Philippine
Bandmaster’s Association. He was conductor of the National Opera Company for 23 years from 1937
to 1960.
RODOLFO S. CORNEJO
(1909 – 1991)
His first composition at age 10 was a piano piece entitled Glissando Waltz. It
was followed three years later by a military march entitled Salute.
He was appointed by then President Manuel L. Quezon. He was commissioned to
write a symphony and an opera and compose the music for the documentary film on
President Quezon’s funeral. He served as pianist director of a USO concert unit that

Introduction

ART elements in the various media- based arts and designs in the Philippines and Filipino

Matching type, Identification and Scrambled letters.
II. SCRAMBLED LETTERS. Arrange the letters to form the word being described.
When a dancer pops, they jerk their body by quickly contracting and relaxing the muscles. The
movements they make are correspondingly referred to as pops or hits.
Locking refers to fast, exaggerated, movements which then freeze into a rigid position (a lock),
whereas waving describes a more fluid style where movement appears to ripple through the
limbs (as if a wave were traversing the dancer's body).
Krumping is characterized by free, expressive and energetic movement of the arms, legs, chest
and head. Proponents of these different styles can correspondingly be described
as poppers, lockers, wavers and krumpers. If you'd like to see these street dance move in action
5 BENEFITS OF STREET DANCE
Risen from the musical terrain of old school New York - block parties, raves, nightclubs. Street
Dance is naturally rooted in rap, hip hop, funk and house, and therefore finds rhythm, poetry and
lyricism intrinsic to its energy and power. It is also however, an evolution of traditional dance forms
like jazz, which were taken out of their professional contexts and applied more freely in open spaces
in an ongoing urbanization of genres.
Born from the grassroots counterculture movement of the 80s, and rare in that it was (and is)
championed equally by men and women, we look beyond the mass appeal of Street Dance.
And it can really boost your health and happiness. So here are our top 5 benefits of street dance...
1. Enhance Your Mood
This dance form is no longer just the territory of youth - it's also an
outlet for a growing number of adults who need their own story, to
express themselves and to feel part of something. Once Street Dance
came in from the cold and made itself at home in our studios, it began
to glamourize the determined and the primal - something that is surely
worth tapping into when we're feeling raw and need a lift
When I started going to clubs and dancing, people would laugh at me.
But after a while I didn’t care. I was just proud of getting out on the floor and I wasn’t shy no more.
I was around people that were fun to be around.
- Don Campbell, the man behind locking dance
1. It is an informal and often improvised style of dance that allows participants to escape the
confines of dance studios.
a. Hip-hop Dance c. Street Dance
b. Funk Dance d. Zumba Dance
2. Street Dancing was first known in what country?
a. Africa c. Germany
b. Canada d. USA
3. What year does street dance grow and progress?
a. 1960s c. 1980s
b. 1970s d. 1990s
4. In what specific spaces does street dance is popular and developed with young people?
a. Public c. Water

5. It is developed as an improvised, social dance form, reacting against traditional, high-art dance
styles.
