With many of the game’s protagonists resting easy following their exploits at Doncaster and
Leopardstown the previous week, it was a quiet enough seven days for the Tote Ten to Follow.

We may have seen movement at the business end of the leaderboard this week were it not for
Al Aasy’s disappointing run in the Arc Trial. Formerly a leading candidate for Longchamp bonus
points, it was more of the same from William Haggas’ 4yo, who just doesn’t have the appetite for
battle when push comes to shove. Instead, the honours went to Solid Stone who takes his tally
to a commendable 68 points for the 40 stables who selected him. There will be more
opportunities for the hardy son of Shamardal to bolster his points haul before the season is out,
with the Cumberland Lodge at Ascot a likely target next.

Over at Ayr, the valuable Gold Cup went to Bielsa who claimed 22.20 points for 66 stables. In an
impressive performance which saw Kevin Ryan’s charge do it on his own up the nearside rail,
he’ll surely take a step into black-type company next. Prior to that, Maydanny picked up 19.5
points for his win in the Doonside Cup, while the biggest scorer of the weekend was Staxton.
Helped in no small part by his £30.20 return on the win pools, Tim Easterby’s 6yo landed 46.90
points for his Silver Cup win.

Over in Ireland, we saw one point scorer at Gowran Park as Carrytheone won with a bit of
authority on his second start of the season. Selected by just four stables, Johnny Murtagh’s
charge could have some nice options over the autumn to add to his 14.30 points.
Finally, the only Ten to Follow Group 1 victory this weekend came over in Canada as Charlie
Appleby and Frankie Dettori were rewarded for a trip across the Atlantic. Godolphin’s Walton
Street, who had been racing in Meydan over the spring, sauntered clear of his rivals at
Woodbine to score 28.05 for 18 stables.
