PROPOSAL TITLE 1: GENERATION Z: WHY TODAY’S SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY,
RATIONALE
Academically speaking the term “Academic Stress” is not as unique as it first seems,
particularly when compared to all the other terminologies employed in the numerous scholarly
fields. Several studies have already gone bright to light the issue. Students who experience such
academic stressful life events often have worse health outcomes and reduced quality of life
(Essel & Owusu, 2017; Sonia, 2015). There is often a lot of pressure that comes along especially
as a graduating student. In academics, there is a lot of studying, homework, tests, activities, and
quizzes. The pressure of finishing all the work, balancing the time, and fitting in extracurricular
activities is a concern. Without a doubt, academic stress has been circulating within the STEM
students.
Academic stress is the anxiety and stress that comes from academic work, project, and
pressure from peers and family. If stress is harsh and extended, it can lessen academic
performance, hinder with a student’s capability to involve in and add to campus life, and raise
the probability of substance abuse and other potentially destructive behaviors (Richlin-Klonsky
& Hoe, 2003; Khan, Altaf and Kausar, 2013). School students who are frequently living away
from home for the first-time experience academic stress particularly severely. Teachers
long it takes to finish reading and writing assignments, print out copies of their work, and submit
in assignments. According to Porwal & Kumar (2014), taking notice of these changes is the
biggest challenge. As the transition to face-to-face classes approaches, some students might find
it hard to adapt as it is a sudden change of learning setup. Fear of academic failure related to
these tasks is a definite stressor (Kolko, 1980; Khan, Altaf & Kausar, 2013). Due to the pressure
of the family and competition with peers, the stress level of students will be high enough. Having
an overload assignment, activities, and projects would likely lead to academic stress that may
further contribute to mental health issues. Academic stress among students have long been
researched on, and researchers have identified Stressors as too many assignments, competitions
with other students, failures and poor relationships with other students or lecturers (Fairbrother &
Warn, 2003).
Nowadays stress has become an important subject matter in research studies in academic
circle as well as in our society (Khan, Altaf & Kausar, 2013). Academic stress has increased in
the past years and mostly now because of the pandemic and the transition to face-to-face classes.
This research is created to give a much more understanding and knowledge on why today’s
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Students at Daniel Maramba National High
School are more prone to academic stress and to help students to manage academic stress.
Indeed, it must be given sufficient attention and focus because it can be alarming, as evident
This study aims to determine why today’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and

following questions:

used in this study. Survey research is defined as "the collection of information from a sample of
individuals through their responses to questions" (Check & Schutt, 2012). The main goal of this
kind of survey study was to swiftly gather information defining the characteristics of a large
The respondents of this study are the Grade 12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics Students of Daniel Maramba National High School situated at Poblacion Norte,
Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan. The respondents will be given a survey questionnaire designed by the
researcher.
