    My husband Alistair and I live in Glasgow, Scotland.

    Thirty years ago, we went to London


    for our honeymoon. We went by train. We visited lots of the sights – the Tower, the
    Houses of Parliament, the British museum and we had a boat
    trip on the Thames. I wanted to do some shopping, so we
    went to Harrods, a huge and very expensive department
    store. Alistair did not want to go in. He was a good socialist
    and he felt the store was for rich types. People with too
    much money! He was – still is! - a bookworm and he always
    carries a book with him. He found a bench in the shade of a
    tree and he decided to read his book while I went into the store. The goods were
    fantastic! I looked at everything but I didn’t buy anything because the prices were too
    high. Amazingly, I bumped into two of my old school friends. They were on
    holiday in London for one week. We started talking about our old school.
    They invited me to have tea with them. The tea room at Harrods was
    magnificent. I chose a delicious French pastry and my friends had scones
    with cream and jam. We chatted and chatted. It was a wonderful experience. It wasn’t
    until I was coming out of the store that I remembered my husband! I checked my watch.
    It was three hours since I left him! I ran back to the bench. Alistair’s nose was in his
    book. Eventually, he looked up, smiled and said: ‘Back so soon, Lilian?’
