INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS

Opening Remarks

(Tonight) we have come together to carry out one of the most important activities of San Jose City
Masonettes – Induction of our 2022 officers.

Thanks to Outgoing Officers

At the same time, this is the occasion for us to recognize those individuals who have served as officers
for the past years. Under their leadership our chapter has accomplished numerous momentous projects
and activities serving both our members, as well as our society (list several achievements the chapter
accomplished during their term). They leave our chapter in excellent shape and ready to achieve new
heights in the years ahead. Let’s show them our appreciation for the many hours they spent working on
our behalf. (Name of outgoing president), please come forward. Every president must devote a
tremendous amount of time and energy to the duties and responsibilities of the office. It seems that
with every passing year, these responsibilities grow. It takes a very talented and committed person to
balance these responsibilities with a personal life and a professional life. Our past president has done a
remarkable job of doing just that.

(First name of president), in recognition and appreciation of your year as president of the (your chapter
name) Chapter, please accept this (plaque/gift). Thank you for what you have done for the chapter and
for each of us individually. (Master of Ceremonies leads applause; outgoing president makes brief
remarks then returns to seat.)

Installation of New Officers

In an association, no other ceremony is as important as that of installing the elected leaders. To my

fellow officers, being here is a visible demonstration of your commitment and dedication to the
organization. And to everyone here who witness this event also plays an important role in the ceremony
because you, too, demonstrate your commitment to support and encourage us during the coming year.
Thanks to all of you for coming.

I realize many of you may be wondering about a question I’m asking myself:

What am I doing here? I’m here, first and foremost, because like all of you, I

love UVA. But I’m also here because I was told that this is where they’re

handing out free tickets to the upcoming concert at Scott Stadium. Is that not

true?

In all seriousness, I would like to begin by giving thanks. First, I’d like to thank

two presidents.

It is my privilege and pleasure to welcome you to the 2007/2008 Installation

Dinner of the Rotary Club of Tortola. I especially welcome my family and guests
who have traveled here to support me. I hope you will all enjoy the fellowship
this evening. I would be remiss if I did not pay tribute to my late husband,
David Jones, for it's because of him that I am a Rotarian.

SHARE THE MAGIC OF ROTARY

I am proud to be a Rotarian! I am most honored and humbled to be elected President of the Rotary Club of Tortola
2007/2008, and with the help and support of my Board members and fellow Club members, I will do my best to
meet the challenge. Our club has been built on a strong leadership foundation, and I am fortunate to have a
membership that is fully committed to the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self, and continues to go the extra mile in
building the club, and carrying out the many worthwhile projects that we undertake for the benefit of our
community.

Let me take this opportunity to congratulate Immediate Past President Ron and his Board for a very
successful year. During his year, IPP Ron did many things to show his support for me as his successor,
and I thank him, and caution him that I will be depending on his continued support throughout the year.
The 5-year Strategic Plan that he wrote and implemented in his year is the first "formally written" Strategic
Plan our club has had, and it will provide guidance for me and future club presidents in terms of setting
and achieving our goals. I heard some one say at the District Conference that the best job to have in
Rotary is "Immediate Past President". I'm sure tonight that must sound like music to the ears of IPP Ron. .
a job well done.

I would also like to congratulate each of the new Board members. Our fellow club members have shown
their confidence in you and me by electing us to our respective positions, and I look forward to serving
with you. I have already seen the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment that you bring to the Board. I am
proud to note that 75 percent of the new Board members attended the 2007 District Conference
in Cayman Islands, including the Vice President and President-elect.>àEach of the Directors has already
begun activities in their respective avenues of service. Our Secretary is not "new" to the job. She's been
secretary and treasurer, and brings a wealth of knowledge to the Board through her many years of
service. I expect that our Sergeant-At-Arms will fill our coffers with fines from the "bad-boys""?
ï¿ since he's one of them. Our Treasurer will have a lot to keep track of. I am grateful for your
support and I look forward to an exciting year of service with all of you. Don't forget our first Board
meeting is July 11th.

Our President of Rotary International, Wilfred Wilkinsen, selected the theme "Rotary Shares" for the 2007/2008
Rotary year.>àIn doing so, I'm sure he had in mind the shared commitment of every Rotarian to provide "Service
Above Self."
As DG Dick McCombe so eloquently said, "Our compassion and our ability to open our hearts to those in
need combined with our commitment to share our time, talent, and treasures with those who are less
fortunate is what causes ordinary Rotarians such as ourselves to do the extraordinary things that we do.
It's what makes Rotary so magical."

At the District Conference in Cayman Islands, DG Alastair proclaimed a 5th component to the Rotary 4-way
testt?¢'Is it fun?' Our club is widely known for its lively luncheon meetings, and the last fellowship
Friday that we held is proof positive that we are a fun-loving club. I shall endeavor to keep the fun and fellowship in
our meetings, in our club projects, and our fellowship events.

In summary, our primary focus for the year will include:

Membership Development and Retention.

Public Image.
Projects and Fundraisers.
The Rotary Foundation..Ã
>àThe Family of Rotary.
>àDisaster Management and Think Caribbean.
>àClub Training and Leadership.
Youth Programs.
Health and Education.
Club Service and Administration.

There are many needy people throughout our community and the world whose only hope will come from Rotary.
Let us all leave here ready to make their lives better in any way that we can. As Rotarians, it will not be good
enough to give only what we have left over or what we can spare, but we must truly give of ourselves with new
vigor in support of the ideals of Rotary. Let us lead the way as Rotary shares its legacy of "Service Above Self". We
will be fortified with the necessary knowledge, skills and tools too?¢"Share the Magic of Rotary"!!

Thank God for His blessingssï¿Â??ï¿Â>àI look forward to serving.

Mary Finley-Jones
President 2007-2008
