REFLECTIONS
As a newly hired and novice teacher in Department of Education,
Teacher Induction Program has helped me to learn all the particular
knowledge that I need to understand to become a competent and
effective professional to serve the department. During my first months of
teaching, I am really feeling at lost with regards to my duties and
responsibilities as a public school teacher and classroom adviser. I am
not aware of what should be expected to me. I felt the need to learn
everything I must learn from simple to most complex things. I am not
even aware that after being hired as a public school teacher there will
be a Teacher Induction Program that I need to attend. At first I asked
my self why this program existed and why there’s a lot of output that we
need to do but when I started to read and answer the following course
modules, I understand now its purpose and I’m very thankful because
this program provided me with opportunities to gain knowledge and
understandings about the educational system in the Department of
Education. It is also good that TIP does
o not only provide coaching and
mentoring to make teachers competent with the different strategies
and techniques in the delivery of instruction but also includes provision
of psychological and moral support for new teachers through the help
of the mentors.

Module 1: The DepEd Teacher

This module enabled me to see myself as Teacher in a deeper

perspective. It made me reflect my personal philosophy of teaching
along with DepEd’s Vision, Mission, Core Values and strategic directions.
This module also helped me to know the organizational structure of the
department where I belong now and the specific roles of the different
bureaus, offices and unit so that If we have questions and concerns we
know where we should go or talk to. Moreover, this module helped to
become familiarize on the different laws and administrative processes
surrounding teachers’ roles, responsibility and rights. Lastly, the most
exciting part of this module is about the salaries, incentives and other
benefits that we may receive as DepEd Teachers.
Module 2: Gearing up for the School Year

This module enabled me to become familiarize on DepEd school

calendar. It helps me to be more accustomed to the daily life of a
DepEd teacher. Being a classroom adviser it is one of our responsibilities
to accomplished school forms at the end of the school year, through
this module I became familiar to different kind of school forms and it
helped me to understand the purpose of each form. Lastly, the most
important learnings I acquired in this module is about classroom
management which I think the most common concerns/challenges of
newly hired teachers that should be given prioritize.

Module 3: The Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers and its

Aligned Systems and Tools

This course enabled me to become familiar with the PPST as the

new framework towards teacher quality in the Philippines.
Understanding the PPST helped me to know the basis for all the learnings
and development programs of the department. I also learned that PPST
ensure that teachers will be properly equipped to effectively implement
the K-12 programs. Lastly, as a newlyohired teacher it is important for us
to know that PPST can also be used in our promotion.

Module 4: Translating the Curriculum into Classroom Practice

One of the duties and responsibilities of a teacher is to plan and

develop lessons aligned with the K-12 curriculum. This module served as
an eye opener for K-12 teachers like me on how to use the curriculum
guide and apply skills in curriculum and planning. This course also
helped me to become familiar in writing exemplars and lesson plans. I
realized that teachers must be good in lesson planning because it is at
the heart of being an effective teacher. Lesson plan demonstrates the
creativity and enthusiasm of the teacher and it is their indispensable
material when teaching.

Module 5: Responding to the Community Contexts

As the old African proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child.”
One could imagine then that it would take a community to raise
holistically developed learners. School-community linkages provide the
support and learning opportunities needed by the learners. We cannot
get everything that the school needs from the government, so with the
help of other stakeholders, private individuals, or organizations, we can
ensure that we are provided with additional resources and support. We
need to work as a community to nurture our schools for our community
needs. We need to hold each other’s hand in building the nation.
I believe the answer to a school’s transformation is strong,
authentic community connections and actions. When schools, families,
communities and other stakeholders band together to support learning,
youth achieve more in school, stay in school longer and enjoy the
experience more. Establishing linkages with parents/guardians and the
wider community can be done through involvement in decision making
that would contribute to the success of the school programs.

Module 6: Teachers’ Professional and Personal Development

Professional development for a teacher is important for both new

teachers and veteran teachers. In this module, I learned the importance
of life-long leaning which keeps me motivated and helped me gain the
confidence to overcome any obstacles that I may be facing in my
chosen field. I realized that Professional development is about
becoming the best equipped teacher you can be because you can
acquire new skills and learnings therefore it should be an important part
on our career development. o
